Camper Menlo Park Reviews from The Last Year
We came for my birthday dinner as I am vegan and my
We came for my birthday dinner as I am vegan and my co-diners are vegetarian. I was dining here first time and my friends had been to the restaurant before. Pros - more vegan options than in other places. We enjoyed the cauliflower, the panisse and the vegan fried rice. Cons - the quantity of food is a joke for the price they charge. I've never had to confirm if what we were being served was a full size dish but we really had to ask at Camper. The server also was missing the mark frequently and said it was a Friday night. He even miscalculated our cheque and divvied it up two ways instead of three (i had to ask where my card was. And he wouldn't reprint the bill with the correct breakdown so my friends refused to sign it)... So, if I'm getting this right, we are paying a lot of money for small quantities of food and bad service? Also, no vegan desserts other than a sorbet that had chunks of ice in it. Ugh. Seriously, do better for your vegan customers. Stop adding eggs to your dumplings, learn to offer a vegan chocolate cake, it isn't hard to do.
We live close and eat here often.
The food is always outstanding and the service is generally excellent. Honestly, it is one of the few places I will eat a burger....BUT from now on, I will bring my own ketchup as the house made version is seriously uneatable. I do not know why people try to improve on Heinz as it mostly fails spectacularly. Their salads, pastas, and chicken dishes are always excellent. They also have a great selection of wine and outstanding gin offering. It is absolutely worth a visit.
We had a lovely dinner here.
The chef is very creative in the use of vegetables and flavorful sauces. Nice selection of wines by the glass, which our server was happy to let me taste before ordering. Highly recommend the cauliflower starter with a mole sauce and the chickpea risotto, which were quite exceptional. The baked cod was a bit salty for our palette (though the sauce was great once again). We needed to order some sourdough bread to cleanse our palate afterwards. They did offer to remake the fish which was thoughtful, but it would have interrupted the flow of our dinner at that stage. The s'mores desert is quite delicious. Thought it was clever how the menu and ambiance (there are b&w photos of camping trips on the walls) incorporate the Camper theme. Our server, Xavier (I believe) was great about explaining each dish that he brought to our table (amazing how many servers at fine dining restaurants forget to do that). We were the last diners there, finishing our meal close to 10pm, which can be late for a weekday meal in the peninsula (!), but we did not feel rushed at all. This made for a satisfying experience overall.
Cute spot in downtown Menlo Park.
Came to celebrate my husband's birthday dinner and enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. Wouldn't say it's amazing but it's a nice celebration spot and on a Friday rainy night this place was packed! What we ordered: - Cornbread with green chile honey butter (3/5): - sourdough bread with smoked ricotta dip (2/5): with all the great bakeries in the bay was disappointed with the bread and the dip was a bit too smoky for my taste - herb loaded fries with Catalan ketchup and garlic aioli (3/5): fries were nicely crisped but not loaded with herbs at all. Aioli had great flavor. - charcoal stained spaghetti with dungeoness crab (5/5): the best dish we had! Just the right balance of savory with a hint of sweetness from the crab - Artichoke agnolotti in a brown butter sauce (4/5): the agnolotti was very good but the butter sauce was a bit too heavy making it feel greasy. I think if there was less of the sauce this would've been 5/5 We also ordered a couple of cocktails and they custom made a well balanced drink based on criteria I asked for. For birthday celebrations they'll also give you a free dessert on the house. Overall I'd come back again but would visit for brunch/lunch since they have a nice outdoor patio and try the wagyu burger which a lot of other diners had.
* Warm Cast-Iron Buttermilk Cornbread: 5/5.
Light, fluffy inside with perfectly toasted crust. Honey butter is rich and creamy, wonderful combination. * Roasted Beets, DiStefano Burrata: 5/5. Delicious, light, flavorful. * Fried Calrose Rice, Garlic Chive Kimchi, Mushrooms: 4/5. Crispy, flavorful rice that seems inspired by Chinese sticky rice. Slightly salty, but otherwise very good (though expensive for the portions). * Flash-Cooked Flowering Cauliflower: 4/5. Slightly burnt, nothing special in terms of flavors, but good concept. * S'mores: 4/5. Creative interpretation of the classic dessert, fashioned like a chocolate tart topped with a pillowy, toasted marshmallow. Brilliant concept, beautiful presentation. But the marshmallow was too smooth and silky, nearly cream like. The chocolate was too bitter and also lacked the optimal texture. * Charcoal Stained Spaghetti, Dungeness Crab "Fra Diavolo": 3/5. Crab flavor and portions were disappointing. Charocal-stained spaghetti was intriguing and worth trying, but ultimately was not memorable. Compelling concept but missed in execution.
My husband and I have been to Camper several times, and
My husband and I have been to Camper several times, and also have taken our adult sons on numerous occasions. Each and every meal were delicious and the atmosphere was always consistently lively!!!! Last week my husband and I along with 2 couples, were hungry and headed over for dinner. We decided to eat family style, so we could sample lots of different dishes. We ordered: warm cornbread, roasted beets with burrata, tender lettuce salad with grapes and radish, gold die mezze rigatoni all day braised pork ragu, charcoal-stained spaghetti with dungeness crab, bread, baked potato agnolotti with trumpet mushrooms, leeks and cheddar, their Wagyu cheeseburger which comes with delicious shoestring fries, creekstone babette "greg steak", and two desserts!!! The service was incredible and our water glasses were topped off often, and our individual cocktails and wines were paired very well! One might think having all the various plates would be overwhelming...yet, it was actually the perfect setup, with our large dining table. We already have another date set for a redo! Special thanks to Chef Marcus who came over to greet and welcome us!
Great food and ambience.
I was about to make a reservation to return when I remembered the $40 corkage charge.
My friend and I are vegetarian/ vegan and we ordered
My friend and I are vegetarian/ vegan and we ordered everything on the menu that was. Good portions to share with another person or 2. Very flavorful and thankfully no impossible burger and fake mea on the menu. Very enjoyable meal. Will definitely be back.
Had a great dinner a few days ago at Camper.
Everything was delicious We had 1. Live Pink Alaskan Scallops, Passion Fruit, Makrut Lime, Olio Verde (The scallops tasted fresh, tangy and savory, really whetting your appetite for the main course) 2. Flashed-Cooked Flowering Cauliflower, Mole Amarillo, Coriander, Morita Chile (The spices brought out a lot of flavor in the cauliflower) 3. Warm Cast-Iron Buttermilk Cornbread, Green Chile - Honey Butter (The cornbread was warm and tasted homey) 4. Baked Potato Agnolotti, Black Trumpet Mushrooms, Leeks, Aged Clothbound Cheddar (Savory, creamy and indescribably delicious. It was absolute perfection) 5/5 5. Charcoal-Stained Pasta, Dungeness Crab "Fra Diavolo," Salsify, Meyer Lemon, Fines Herbs (The pasta was already so savory, with the crab adding that extra one-two punch of seafood flavor) 6. Creekstone Bavette "Greg's Steak", Cabbages, Grilled Artichokes, Black Garlic, New Potatoes (The steak was tender and juicy) 7. Smoky Petaluma Chicken Breast, Winter Squash, Lacopi Heirloom Beans, Green Chile Chimichurri (What a unique smokey taste from the chicken with the vegetables adding a unique twist to the dish) But by far the best thing they have on their menu was the Baked Potato Agnolotti I cannot recommend this enough. You have to try it!
Just want to echo that if you are not white, you will
Just want to echo that if you are not white, you will probably be seated in the less desirable seats at the back of the restaurant with the other "ethnic" people. It is pretty glaringly obvious.
Unfortunately, last night was our last dinner at Camper.
We discovered Camper 6 months ago and loved it but disappointed the last two times we visited. The service was as disappointing as the food, just not worth it anymore. We got there a few minutes early for our 7:30PM reservation, the restaurant quite busy on a Wednesday night, with a dis-interested and no eye-contact host bringing us promply to our table. We had cocktails which were quite good but the experience was downhill from there. 1) The server was not knowledgeable about the menu, and when ask for recommendations between different items, it was "all good, this one is slightly better" without any more details. 2) The food was sub-par. The salad in the appetizer was sizable and well seasoned but so improperly washed that it was too gritty to eat. No questions from the server on whether it was good or why we didn't eat it. 3) The creamy sauce on the agnolotti was probably the saltiest dish I have ever had. Someone dropped a salt shaker on it - quite literally. It was barely edible. There is no way anyone in the kitchen had tasted this sauce that evening. 4) When I ordered a glass of wine (Rhys pinot noir was great to see on the menu by the glass), the server disappeared before we could ask a glass of wine for my wife. Again when he brought me my glass of wine, unable to get one for my wife. Frustrated, we asked for the check, settled and left - again with no question on our satisfaction. It is really unfortunate as some of the dishes were quite good - the Tuna crudo as an appetizer was delicious and my wife's rock cod dish quite good, all of this reminding us how good overall this place USED TO BE. But no more - and my guess is the staff knows it because they do not bother to ask any questions.
Hidden gem of a unique restaurant
A very nice small restaurant in the heart of Menlo Park. Casual atmosphere, excellent service and friendly wait staff. The Miyagi oysters on a bed of small rocks was simply excellent as was the fresh sour dough. All the entrees we had were all well prepared and the taste was beyond expectations. The Charcoal-Stained Spaghetti with Dungeness Crab “Fra Diavolo,” Gypsy Peppers, Meyer Lemon, Fines Herbs was superb. The Gold Die Mezze Rigatoni, 12-Hour Modenese Style Pork Ragu, Sourdough Breadcrumb, Parmigiano was very well prepared and excellent. The Baked Potato Agnolotti, Matsutake Mushrooms, Melted Leeks, Cabot Creamery’s Clothbound Cheddar also was excellent. The wine list was mainly French and Italian with a few domestic wines. The sorbet was fresh and full of bright raspberry notes. Don’t miss this rare gem if you are near Menlo Park.
I'll try to keep this brief.
.. Camper is really cute; it's in a great location on the corner of Santa Cruz Ave, and the ambiance is warm and welcoming. The holidays brought in a few large parties, so it was very busy. The staff is amazing - super friendly and very attentive, even with how busy it was. The food was so, so good. I thoroughly enjoyed the cod dish I ordered; the mix of flavors was perfect. I cleaned my plate, eating every last lentil! It was a bit pricey, but I recommend visiting even if it's just once. You'll find a reason to go back, guaranteed.
Creative, tasty and friendly
I went there with a friend who lives here and it was an excellent dinner. Fine and new cocktails, excellent gratin cauliflower and mushrooms, very tender meat, all with a touch of originality. Silicon Valley prices, but a super friendly environment, I would happily go back.
Very disappointing
Very disappointing experience - food and drinks were mediocre at best. We ordered large mixed green salad which had no character and some wilted leaves, blistered peas appetizer which also lacked flavors. For a restaurant that positions itself as farm-driven fresh the salad was clearly not as fresh as you would buy from a farmers market and it lacked interesting greens, it was as if taken straight from value packs in Safeway or Costco. For main course we had sole which was overcooked, pasta which was "meh" and the smoked half chicken which had great sauce and was the only thing we liked. Strawberry cocktail tasted like watered down cheap lemonade. No ambience in the side patio. Will not return.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Newbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
