Caja Caliente Coral Gables Reviews from The Last Year
Great happy hour prices! The food portions were huge too
Great happy hour prices! The food portions were huge too and it was good. The chips were stale tho
Food and service were wonderful! Everything was delicious
Food and service were wonderful! Everything was delicious and we enjoyed trying new things with the sampler platter.
I'm so sad to be writing a bad review about this place.
When they opened caja caliente was the place to eat, always packed and lively. Now, it's barely what it used to be. Food was okay, the cuban nachos were disappointing. The cuban cochinilla was the best thing we ate. The tacos and tostones rellenos were not very good. The service was TERRIBLE. Only one person waiting tables which made it impossible for her to go to every table in a timely manner while also bringing out food. Drinks were horrendous, was not able to finish y margarita and the mojito was even worse. It looks run down and just sad. Hopefully Mika can turn this place back into what it used to be. The only good thing about it was the good prices.
Food was amazing.
Service was great. It's a cute little restaurant. Honestly, just loved it. I tried the queso frito with the guava sauce and wow! Such a good combination of flavors. I also had the tamal cubano with a fried eye. Highly recommend. Their little decorations are also cute. Very clean also.
Growing up Cuban, I know what flavors I should be expecting
Growing up Cuban, I know what flavors I should be expecting when I eat Cuban food. Caja Caliente not only met that mark but exceeded it along with bringing some modern twists that made me think how brilliant! Located at the edge of Coral Gables on Ponce de Leon near Calle Ocho, this unassuming little spot made me question why haven't I been here sooner?!? The inside was very homey. You have indoor and outdoor seating along with bar seating options. They had cooking competition shows on TV which my wife and I are addicts. And of course we've seen Caja Caliente's very own Chef Mika on many of these and rooted for her every time. She should have won the 24 in 24 Last Chef Standing competition, just sayin. We were greeted immediately upon entering. I had heard great things about their tamale with egg so I had to get that along with the plantain balls with ground beef. Those two struck me as different takes from the Cuban food norm and I was intrigued. Well let's start with the plantain balls. They were perfectly sweet but yet savory from the ground beef. The picadillo was super on point. It came with a cilantro dipping sauce which was so fresh. There were 4 balls to an order and honestly I could have devoured another 12 of those. They were just that delicious. The tamale with egg came in a beautiful presentation with the leaf and the perfectly cooked egg that broke apart and let the yolk just coat all the pulled pork, tamale, tomatoes and avocado. The tamale was super moist and melted in your mouth. I had to pause after a couple of bites because I felt like I was having a religious moment. It was moving me. But also what made it so good was that every component of the dish was nailed just right, the lechon was moist and not over seasoned, the egg was perfectly cooked, the tamale was not dry and allowed itself to blend with all the other components. My wife had the tamal en casuela and the Ropa Vieja taco which was also amazing. Again perfectly seasoned. My son had the quesadillas which were a nice size. For cocktails, I tried the Guava Mule, which was a variation of the Moscow Mule, because of course it had guava. It was good although I couldn't really taste the ginger beer. Tasted more like a Mojito with Guava. But for dessert we had the guava and cheese empanadas and the mamey ice cream. My wife loved the ice cream. It had abuela maria cookie crumble for texture and the taste of mamey was spot on. But my favorite was the empanadas, they looked and tasted like homemade. Like abuela was back there frying them up fresh. That and a cortadito, with evaporated milk of course, was the perfect way to end a perfect dining experience. I will definitely be coming back here again and would highly recommend giving Chef Mika and Caja Caliente a try if you haven't. I don't normally like going out for Cuban food because I almost always end up disappointed as mommy's cooking is always better. But I think Chef Mika and Caja Caliente do it right and pains me to say maybe even better than mom.
Food was amazing.
Wish they put more meat in the quesadilla but everything was fresh and so good. And great people working there too. They were really nice. Also the best empanadas.
Delicious food.
Empanadas were the best we ever had. The Cuban sandwich was amazing..such good food and people.
I went here for a quick brunch.
But, ended up taking dinner home as well. The tamal con lechon, is a hit and the star of the show. I believe it comes with avocado and cream, you can add an egg, but dietary restrictions did not allow that for me. The corn is super sweet, fluffy texture and the pork incredible. The fish sandwich was grouper. Super tasty, fresh and crispy.. add a little lemon, fantastic. The arroz con pollo saved for dinner, but delicious. Simply delicious. Service is a bit slow, prices are a bit high.... But nonetheless, worth a drive and taste.
A different kind of Cuban food.
Was looking for a different place to eat and came across this restaurant. It had such wonderful reviews. My friends and I met at caja caliente and we were not disappointed. We ate the best tamal en cazuela, filled with pork, also we had the pork tacos. The place is really cute and the waitress was extremely friendly. Really recommend this restaurant for a different type of Cuban food.

FOOD IS EXQUISITE!!!!! I've been here a few times and it does not disappoint, ever. The burritos, tacos, and tamal en cazuela are superb! They also carry croquetas from Islas Canarias, if you know you know. Service here is very personable; defiantly feels like you're at home. Our waitress, Onaili, was such a pleasure, very cordial and welcoming. I can't wait to go back!
First time coming here and I'm definitely coming back.
To start off the place is cute and the ambiance is great. The service from start to finish was amazing. The mojito wasn't the best but it was only $5. I had the taco sampler , the tamal with egg on top and for dessert we ordered the guava and cheese empanadas & everything was AMAZING. my mother in law had the stuffed avocado and tasted wonderful. My husband had the burrito with churrasco , he says it had a bit too much cheese for his liking but it was still yummy. Definitely coming back !

The only reason I give 2 stars is because their food is good, but to order take out and be charged a 12 percent service charge, and then get home and realize they missed part of the order, is unforgivable. Will not be coming back
the service was great but the food wasn't! the best thing
the service was great but the food wasn't! the best thing on the menu is fries and the desert options. Ambiance is ok it looks nice inside. but the need a better chef!
I discovered this restaurant after watching the owner
I discovered this restaurant after watching the owner showcase on channel 7 in the Today morning show. I read the reviews and visited their website, the pictures looked delicious however the food was not nearly as the pictures in their website. I ordered the pull port sandwich and was served the Pan Con Lechon, very dissapointing, the bun was old two tiny pieces of pork some sliced tomatoes and over filled with tiny fries from a can. Presentation too was very unpleasing. My friend had the tostones filled with shredded chicken the chicken was dry and tasteless. The tostones were hard and overcooked. Overpriced and under rated, I do not recommend this place, there are much better places to eat Cuban food believe me and less expensive. Save your money. Pictures are very deceiving.

I recently dined at Caja Caliente and was blown away by the great experience! The tostones were perfectly crispy, the tamales have to be one of the best tamales I have ever tried, and the mahi bowl was absolutely delicious. The team was very kind with their service, adding to the warmth of the atmosphere. If you're looking for a culinary adventure in miami this is the place to be! Don't miss out on this gem!!
I can for lunch on Friday to introduce my friend to this
I can for lunch on Friday to introduce my friend to this yummy Cuban with a twist restaurant. We got the caja caliente that comes various appetizers like empanadas (shrimp, ham), platanitos with picadillo, queso Frito with guava sauce, ham croquetas, papa rellena and more. It was a nice taste I'd all their appetizers. In my opinion the best was the plantains with picadillo and queso Frito with guava. Yummers! Now I left the best for last!! TAMAL CUBANO WITH FRIED EGG !!! I Uufffff! Just take my advice try it so you can see for yourself what delicious taste like. I have to give kudos to supervisor Chino. He was very pleasant and welcoming to my friend and. The restaurant doesn't have their own parking but there's meter parking outside. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated with Cuba artifacts.

Since I hardly venture to the Gables, it had been a long minute until I had the chance to come by. I stopped by for a late lunch / early dinner and know that I need to come by more often. Chef Mika takes a modern and creative spin on Cuban classics whether the tamal I saw on a neighboring table, or the shredded chicken bowl I enjoyed. Basically what our parents knew as a "completa" Instead of just rice and beans, you also have the option of quinoa and extra chicken. The pico de gallo and spicy dressing are the coup de grace in flavors. Looking for a sweet break from the spice? Make sure to order their fried plantain balls stuffed with picadillo (ground beef). Remember to leave space for their dessert empanadas (aka pastelitos) stuffed with guava and cheese.
Not great not bad.
We've never eaten inside we've always gone through take out. I recommend the empanada as it tastes amazing. Always served hot. They are priced well too!
we went to this restaurant at 2 pm Sunday afternoon.
it was almost empty. two other couples besides us. we had been there a year ago and we're not too impressed. this time it was really disappointing. my husband had a kale salad with churrasco meat. the meat was very low quality. I had a tamal en cazuela. a small bowl full of pork. that's all it was. for appetizers we ordered mariquitas which we're from a bag. a Cuban restaurant should at least make its own !!!! the croquettes were good. the coffee too. I enjoy Mika's recipes on instagram but I think she's neglecting to pay attention to her restaurant! we will not return too bad. we need Cuban restaurants in Miami.
Loved this place! Excellent Cuban food with a twist.
Awesome service by the waiters and even the owner. We were a big group and we really enjoyed the occasion there. Can't wait to come back! Un lugar con mucho sabor cubano pero con el toque moderno de Miami. Please, don't change anything!!!
1st time customers and it was excellent service from start
1st time customers and it was excellent service from start to finish. We had the tamal with lechon on top, kale caesar salad (the Cuban bread croutons were insanely delicious) with a generous portion of chicken on top, my girls had congri with churrasco, and my husband had the vaca frita burrito. We shared the house sampler, every bite was enjoyed. However, the trifecta was the cortadito with leche evaporada, the churros with leche condensada, and the mamey ice cream. Way to bring me back to the 1980's with that delicious assortment of desserts. Happy customers!
Ordered a burrito, guac and chips and fries.
... Took over 30 mins for my to go order and they forgot the fries.....noticed after I drove away and checked the bag. For $40 I should of went elsewhere.
I kept driving by this spot and finally one day I decided
I kept driving by this spot and finally one day I decided to stop by for dinner on a casual Friday night with a friend. It's like an upscale version of the Cuban sandwich shop. The decor and music is so tropical Latin Miami in a low-key vibe. We each got a guava spritz which was refreshing and we started with the Croquetas De Spicy Goat which were delicious. I got the pan con vaca frita as my main and I really enjoyed it. Service was helpful as well and everyone was really nice. I have no complaints and had a great time.

Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate |
Yes unfortunately they are finding more and more ways to lock up sellers money. Sell thru rate, refund rate, limiting withdrawal amounts ler day and per month (which for me are the same number which makes no sense). Lot of sellers leaving as you can see from the lifetime sales not really increasing. Most posts on here are frustrated sellers which is not a recipe for success

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Reservation transfer issue
Purchased double chicken please for two hours from now and no response from Appointment Trader regarding my name transfer request which I paid for yesterday. I believe the original reservation holder is a bot as it seems like it when i tried contacting directly. Do I have any recourse if they won’t let me in the restaurant?
