🤮 1/5 - Poor service, mediocre food, stratospheric prices!

On our last evening on Palm Beach my partner and I wanted a fine anniversary dinner in a romantic setting. We chose Cafe Boulud based on internet and a travel magazine recommendation. The ambiance was great, the service was not and the food quality was a HUGE disappointment -particularly so given the stratospheric prices. We shared a beet salad and a shrimp cocktail as appetizers. The salad was small and uninspiring. Beet salads need a commingling of flavors to be good. This one was bland. The cocktail consisted of four large shrimp ( or possibly prawns) plus lime slices and red sauce. The presentation was nice but the shrimp lacked flavor almost like they had been frozen for an extended time period. We then waited for about a half-hour for our entrees to arrive. And by then we had gone through most of the expensive bottle of 1 Cru Chablis. I ordered the imported Dover Sole and my partner ordered the local Grouper. She took two bites and told me the Grouper was dryer out. I also tasted it and clearly it was way overcooked - the cardinal sin for seafood. My Sole was also overcooked but still edible. I flagged down the waiter and we told him the Grouper was unacceptable. He said nothing and just disappeared. Nobody returned to further resolve the problem. I can understand that errors are made in the kitchen; I cannot understand how the management can be so indifferent to such errors. When the bill came we were charged for the Grouper. I would have demanded that the charge be removed but my partner implored me not to make a scene on our anniversary evening. I bit my tongue and paid the full bill. To add to my frustration my partner Institute that I tip a full 20 percent in order to support the “little people,” who were not responsible for the check’s incompetence. Cade Boulud is preying on customers who have money to burn but can’t distinguish between mediocre food and really good food. Cafe Boulud is a high-priced ripoff. Even the Breakers food is a better deal, and that’s a pretty low bar to clear.
