Birthday experience
Had my 60th birthday party here and had an awesome experience! The staff was incredible and helped from start to finish! What class! The food and drinks were enjoyed by all!
Be the first to ReplyExpensive, but okay for a special occasion
We chose Boston Chops because it was right between where we were staying and where we were going that night, and they had a Valentine's Day special. Right off the bat, let me say that this was easily the most expensive meal we've ever had. So the question is, was it worth it? The three-course meal price was $149 per person. It included an appetizer, entree, and dessert. I chose the Crab Ravioli for my opening course, while my wife chose the Caesar Salad. Both were very good- this may have been my first time having Crab Ravioli and the sauce was tasty and the overall flavor very good; my wife enjoyed the Caesar Salad overall, maybe not the best ever but most certainly not the worst- the crisp parmesan-tasting flat croutons(?) were excellent. Moving on, we both chose the 10oz Filet Mignon. We were going to both get the Brussels Sprouts with Bacon Lardons, but our server Bryan S told us that each side would be able to serve two, so we took the Sauteed Mushrooms as our second side to split. My wife chose the Bearnaise Sauce for her steak and I chose the Boston Chops House sauce for mine. The steaks were cooked to the right temperature and were very tasty; I found the Boston Chops House sauce tangy and good- it added to the steak's flavor without necessarily overpowering it. Finally, dessert. They had me at chocolate for the Chocolate Espresso Totre with Creme Anglaise- I am not a coffee drinker but this dessert was more chocolate than coffee tasting, which served me well. My wife opted for the Red Velvet Buttercake with Sweet Cream Ice Cream, which she had no trouble finishing. For drinks, we shared a bottle of large still water (I would probably opt for tap next time); I had a soft drink and my wife had a Prosecco with the meal and a Cappuccino with dessert. The drinks added $29 to the final total. Including state tax, local tax, and a Kitchen Appreciation Fee ($8.94), the final total before tip was $358.83. The service was excellent- frequent but not overly so, and Bryan was friendly and attentive. The location itself is very nice, and about a five minute walk from the Citizens Bank Opera House and only a few minute walk to the nearest T station. So, was it worth it? For a special night out, yes. For a regular meal, you'd have to judge for yourself and look at alternatives in the area. For the middle of downtown Boston this probably is above average but not necessarily prohibitively so. We would go back for another special occasion meal, but would probably look at less expensive alternatives in the area as well.

First time visit. Oyster rockerfella. Great. T bone for two was delicious. Great augratin potatoes. Service excellent
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Cuisine and charming Staff
Last night, we visited Boston Chops Downtown in Boston, and I must say, it was an excellent experience. The meal was exceptional, starting with the delicious popovers and crispy mushrooms as appetizers. The main course consisted of a mouthwatering lobster tail and a perfectly cooked filet mignon. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was top-notch. Our waiter, Stephen, added to the charm of the evening. He was knowledgeable and attentive, providing us with excellent service throughout the night. He even shared interesting tidbits about IHOP and the Boston Antique Market, which added a delightful touch to our dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyEh, ended up not that great.
This place looks good from the "outside". Loved the discreet entrance, the decor, the menu etc. But the service was just weird. It took about 15 minutes to take our drink order. Drinks were brought to the table after our appetizers. They kept bringing still water which cost money without asking. Cleared our appetizer plates before the other apps were brought out. Just all so weird. Food was pretty good but my daughters steak didn't look right and was too tender...almost mushy. She ordered medium and it was brown all the way through. We should have sent it back but we always feel bad doing that. She got sick the next day. Pretty sure it was this.
Be the first to ReplyNo second timeโฆ
Poor service, lost interest after a good start. Food was good, but no reason to come back a second time. No fine dining experience, which was expected.
Be the first to ReplyNot unhappy we wound up here. GREAT popovers!
Had a fun time here. Server was very friendly and they wanted to give a feeling of something special, enjoyed the big, spacious table. My daughterโs friend is a vegetarian and for a steak house they had lots of interesting and delicious options for her. The reason I only rate it three is because service was a bit slow and for a steakhouse, two of the staples I ordered were what I would call mediocre. My steak, though apparently featured on the cover of Food and Wine magazine. Wasnโt particularly thick and was a bit fatty and my Manhattan was definitely not made with a high quality bourbon. But still, was a lovely night out in a lovely space! And it was great to have popovers!

The worst dining experience ever. No one was serving our table. We were seated at the table with only two bottles of water for literally ten minutes and NO ONE came to ask for our drink/dinner orders. Not until I asked for someone did they manage to find a waiter and tell us it was the system issue. Food was mediocre and certainly wasnโt worth the price and hype. We asked to speak to the manager and he was only apologizing for the system issue and clearly not โsorryโ at all. A total disappointment and will not visit again. Left with utter disgust.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible night - congratulations on the reopening!
We were big fans of Boston Chops Downtown before the pandemic having been a few times and so were crushed when they closed. To hear of the reopening we were beyond excited, and so last night prior to seeing a show we returned and wow, it's *better* than it used to be! The staff and management have just absolutely nailed this reopen--the restaurant looks incredible (the bull mural is A+) and staff are super polished and professional. The ambiance of the restaurant is just top notch. Food was excellent, our oysters had no shells and were chilled, steaks cooked perfectly to order, and the best was our incredible server Lauren B who provided a superb level of service that really set the night. Drinks were fantastic, our martinis were perfect (my husband said his extra dirty martini was the best he's had recently). And you can't forget about the fries. The French fries are still sensational and taste even better than McDonald's--if you don't order the fries you are really missing out, get them! We didn't grab dessert (the Espresso Martinis were extra yummy) but that warm chocolate cake is mine next time. Overall it was a grand slam night that we really enjoyed, thank you Boston Chops Downtown and congratulations on the reopening.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely will be back
After many, many meals at their original south end location, this was my first time at the newer downtown location. Jose was our server and he was just wonderful! The ambience is great and the noise level was pretty low. Everything from the popovers to the filet were fabulous! I had steak frites, which can be dangerous seeing as it's basically endless frites...so good! The sticky toffee pudding for dessert was wonderful as well. Jose, the staff and the overall experience was just wonderful for both my friend and I and we cannot wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the most disappointing
One of the most disappointing meals we have ever had. Beautiful building, that is the only really positive thing I can say about the experience. We had several appetizers, dinners, cocktails and a bottle of wine. We were looking for a special evening and it was definitely a mistake to choose Boston Chops. No service whatsoever, nobody came to check how anything was or if we needed anything, she had no interest in waiting on us. And we have been to many nice steak houses, and love the old school waiter vibe, but that is NOT what we revived.....this was pure unprofessional service with no finesse or class. As for the food it was just not special. Definitely not worth the price tag. The oysters didnโt taste fresh, the shrimp cocktail did not have the right texture. The steak had no flavor( and we asked the server what cut she recommended that would be most flavorful ), the tuna entree was a odd mix of tastes that did not meld well and the creamed spinach was runny and boring . The crab cocktail was good.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time lunch experience
The food was excellence. The value was excellent as well. I was struck, however, when i entered at 11:30 am, that I was asked if I had a reservation or call-ahead posting. The atmosphere was very upscale, but the attitude of the staff was a bit pretentious.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food and Service
Would definitely recommend a visit here. Good warm comfortable feel to the decor immediately makes you feel relaxed. The service was spot on and the steaks were excellent. Just a shame we didn't have time during our stray to visit for a second time.
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant
If you are looking for a good steak in Boston go here. Good food and great drinks menu. Atmosphere is good too. A bit pricer than elsewhere but worth it. Overall highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect location, impeccable service, and delicious meals before the theater!
This was our second time enjoying dinner at this restaurant, and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time! Located within a few blocks of the opera house and other theaters, Boston Chops is known for their steaks, but has several other dinner selections as well. Our steaks came with frites and arugula salad, and we shared a side of grilled asparagus - everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. The free popovers for starters were light and fluffy, and we shared one dessert, the molten chocolate cake, which was fabulous! What makes this restaurant stand above the others is the very attentive service from not only the primary servers but from other wait staff who are there just when you hope they would be to pick up napkin rings, clear starter plates, and refill waters. Our waitress Raquel was exceptional and had a warm welcoming approach which we appreciated. She answered our questions about menu choices, and definitely knew what she was doing. I highly recommend Boston Chops!
Be the first to ReplyGood Steaks but at a Price
My wife and I were walking about on a Friday night looking for someplace different to eat. We were headed somewhere else but Boston Chops caught our eye and brought us back to when it was Mantra. We stepped inside and were quickly shown to a table. The place was packed and had a fun atmosphere. We were happy that they kept the fixtures from the bank, the vault, the teller line..... It is a fun place to dine. We had the Tuna Tar Tar to start and it wasn't very good. We both had the 8 oz filet and they were cooked to perfection. The horseradish mashed potatoes were bitter and not very good. The grilled asparagus were excellent. We aren't running back but would give it another try if we were in the area. Steaks and sauces were excellent. Our server Vinny was great and made the night fun.
Be the first to ReplyWe ate in the Vault...
with a hundred of our friends. Although "Chops" implies that meat is what one should eat here, my advice is to get the sea bass. It will be perfectly cooked and sitting on noodles in a secret sauce. Yum.
