I typically look at Service & Food as equally important
I typically look at Service & Food as equally important when I write reviews and this is probably by 5th time at BG and every time the service gets worse and worse. I'm probably not going to go back unless I'm extremely hungry and there is a walk in available. They didn't want to seat us when 2/3 party was present after making a reservation. There should be already table for us so what's the hold up? The older host lady was very not welcoming and had an attitude. From the moment we entered and by the time we were being seated we started the lunch with a bit of frustration. The food was great- probably a bit more overpriced for what it is but still taste was good. It was about $230 bill and even during dining the service wasn't too great. So we tipped 15% and one of the guys that was in a suit questioned why I'm not tipping "enough" because I should tip at minimum 20%. So I responded, saids who? I was not very happy with the service and this is what I think is appropriate. Never again- I would give two stars but I think one star will do!

I'm a sucker for afternoon teas so I had to try this restaurant. The description says it overlook views of Central Park but the windows are only on one side of the wall and if you're not lucky enough to get a seat there you don't get any view. The restaurant isn't big but it's cute. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was quite crowded. Note: Try for a table in the back as it's less noisy back there for some reason. The offerings for the afternoon tea is the usual.....finger sandwiches, devil eggs, scones, petite fours, etc so nothing new to report there. Overall the food was good - the scones could have been a little warmer and softer compared to other afternoon teas I've been to, but the service is exceptional! It gets crowded so make sure you make a reservation!

We arrived well before our reservation since we were nervous about being late with New Years closures, but they sat us almost immediately which was really nice of them! The service was excellent. Everything was very quick and everyone was very nice. The food was mostly great (LOVED the scones, and the desserts were pretty good) but the sandwiches were a bit on the dry / under-filled side (only reason I took off a star.)

If you simply need to check this experience off your bucket list, then by all means, do it. But if you're looking for a nice place for a quiet lunch or afternoon tea, BG gets two thumbs down from me. I made reservations exactly 90 days in advance, and in the comments/messages on Open Table, I indicated the preferred type of table/view, dietary accommodations, and what we were celebrating. Upon arrival, we waited in line in a narrow hallway on the seventh floor. When the hostess took our coats, another woman escorted us to a table that didn't match my request. I indicated the request I had made and the woman curtly told me they seat guests in the order they show up. The dietary accommodations seemed to be as overlooked as we were. There's no argument that the room has nice views, but the ceilings are low, and the tables are so close together that any feeling of "luxury" is lost. The playlist was more appropriate for a rooftop nightclub than a tea room adorned with pastel colors. The wait staff were polite when they interacted with us (to take our order and bring our check). Two stars. I recommend the afternoon tea at the Pierre Hotel.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a fabulous place to eat.
It overlooks Central Park and has a lovely atmosphere to it. I got the Gotham Salad and Cucumber Spritz Mocktail and both were absolutely divine - by far one of my most favorite salads ever eaten as well as mocktail. The servers were prompt and super friendly.

Devil Eggs were great. Best part, ambiance and service. Melissa provided me with great customer service. She was personable, attentive, and professional. Loved the vegan hot chocolate too. Very cozy space to escape too from the hustle of the shop and city!
Be the first to ReplyFestive atmosphere the week before Christmas.
Or, our concierge could not get us in supposedly but when we got to the host stand they sat us right away. We had wonderful cocktails and salads... The lobster salad was particularly delicious.

Was excited to bring my daughter and her friends for tea to celebrate their 18th birthdays. The service was very slow and the cookies were stale. The price was absurd for what we got. Disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a large family high tea.
No way to seat 26 people together or to make reservations for a large group so a whole bunch of us had to make separate Open Table reservations. It worked, but we didn't get to sit together.Overall, it's a great location and very beautiful room. The actual food for the tea wasn't as amazing as I hoped. And had to ask for more clotted cream a bunch of times. Because it's a family tradition, definitely worth doing, especially in memory of my Oxford educated father, but there's probably better actual afternoon tea other places.

We had fabulous food, drinks and service at this beautiful restaurant! Corina was very friendly and sweet. She took great care of us and provided good recommendations on the menu. We enjoyed the lobster napoleon, Gotham salad, Croque Madame, swordfish special, Smokey Berry cocktail with Mezcal and for dessert, the signature BG Cake and Gingerbread Creme Brรปlรฉe. Everything was delicious and it was the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary. We look forward to going back!
