We came here not quite sure to expect other than a great meal. We got exactly what we were looking for. Starting with the uni canapé, set the pace for an amazing dinner and great wine in central CA. For a Michelin starred prix fixe at $115/pp, it's one of the finest, affordable meals you can find in wine country. Don't believe me, head over to Mattei's Tavern...

Great mussels. Magical presentation. Service warm, informative. You feel like you have stopped by a friend's home and they were expecting you. The environment feels so relaxing I feel like I am at a spa.

We have been to Bell's over half a dozen times for lunch and dinner since before their Michelin Star status, and each time we go the food is consistently outstanding and creative, and service is phenomenal. They always manage to figure out a creative and different approach to Santa Barbara uni - from on top of a crepe to panna cotta. The steak frites is always a favorite. Steak tartare and snails are delicious. The chicken liver mousse stands out and is a favorite of mine. The gateau Breton is a great way to end the meal, though their other desserts never disappoint. Every dish is always beautifully plated. This restaurant is truly exceptional.

Really special, and worth waiting for a Saturday lunch time reservation. Loved sitting outdoors in the back, and everything we ate was delicious. Service was also excellent.

We went to Bell's for my partner's birthday dinner and it was a dream! Pre-fixed menu but you'll still leave here stuffed. Make sure to reserve in advance! French food meets the Californian central coast in a rich but delightfully straightforward merging of worlds. We appreciated how simple dishes were, where the freshness of ingredients and innovative preparation methods led to some pretty fun results. Dishes worth noting were: * uni starter (I want to eat uni and caviar on crepes every day for the rest of my life thank you) * sourdough bread (the better is sooo good) * risotto (there's a cheese 'sauce' but more akin to a foam surrounding the plate which was divine) * panna cotta (loved the texture, executed perfectly!) I loved how kind and unpretentious service was here. They even brought out a super yummy chocolate cream puff for my partner's birthday and comped a free glass of wine when a small mistake was made. I'd definitely return if we stay in Los Alamos again!

I booked Bell's months in advance to be sure that we could come. It is a small restaurant with about 15 small tables. It is casual, bistro vibe with a prix fixe menu. There are servers everywhere and you shall never want for anything. The food was fantastic. I hate uni, but that uni, caviar and crepe bite (that I slivered into four bites) was out of this world. We paired this with a local Sauvignon Blanc (Storm). Next up, we enjoyed the trademark salad, which is an amazing blend of salty and sweet. For my entree, I had the lamb en croute, which is one of the best bites ever. Tender lamb in a crunchy shell on a bed of little white beans in a verdant sauce. The risotto was a little different. I am not sure how I feel about that foam, but it worked well on the fresh sourdough bread. The lemon thyme cake was HEAVENLY. I ate all of mine and half of my friend's. The lemon curd was sweet and creamy, the cake was moist with a perfect crumble and the meringue was toasty fresh. I do wish they had wine pairing, but it meant that we could bring a bottle from our own cellar. They decanted the wine, and we enjoyed every sip!

Took a solo day in the area visiting wineries then decided to try out Bell's after seeing the reviews and its Michelin guide mention and can honestly say this meal will be remembered forever. I was able to be seated at the bar immediately but do recommend reservations as it was packed on a Saturday. All of the servers were attentive, engaging, and professional but a special thank you to Jacob for elevating a great meal with quick conversations. I started with the escargot paired with the Cremant de Savoie - the herb and oil blend was nicely balanced and the bread a perfect combination of crispy exterior with soft interior. Next was the braised cheek sandwich - and holy crap the first bite ascended me. This was one of the best sandwiches in my life - the bread, the juiciness of the meat, and the pop of flavors by the peppers was everything I never knew my tastebuds needed. I don't care if you split the sandwich or take it to go, order it. I paired it with the Scala which was a nice compliment. Whether you love yourself enough to take a solo meal and thank yourself afterwards or want to create a memory with friends, family, or a date, come to Bell's.

I was lucky enough to be a walk-in after the lunch rush and had an amazing meal. If you love food and exploring California, Bell's in Los Alamos is a gem. Whether driving the 101 or making Los Alamos a destination, this establishment should not be missed. The food, hospitality and staff are fantastic. Reservations, I would say, are highly recommended or you could be like me, take a chance as a walk-in and score a seat.

Wow! We stumbled upon Bell's during an impromptu visit to sample wine in Los Alamos. Thankfully the maitre d' was able to sit us at the bar where we had front row seats to the kitchen action, what a treat. The hubby and I shared French fries, Bell's salad w/steak, and ham and cheese buckwheat crepes. The hubby enjoyed a lager and I had a sparking ginger drink and ended with coffee and vanilla glacee and gateau Breton. The salad was fresh, fragrant and steak cooked to perfection, buckwheat was generously filled with ham and cheese, delicious nutty flavor. Their coffee was amazing, smooth and bold. Their ice cream was topped with a drizzle of olive oil and sea salt, which was a perfect combo. Hands down the best was the gateau Breton, a butter cake...moist, delectable without being heavy. The attention to detail, care, and service were top notch. I've ambience is calming and aesthetic is chic without being pretentious. It's not surprising they have earned a Michelin star! We can't wait to go back for dinner!

Dinner is prix fixe, but lunch is excellent French bistro fare. I especially enjoyed their steak tartare with frites, escargot and chicken liver mousse. Service was excellent.

I've been here about 10 times over the past several years and I have to say, I think it's my favorite restaurant. We've had the prefix dinner many times as well as the lunch menu. The bottom line is that Bell's is consistently amazing. Whether you are eating sea urchin, steak, their amazingly creative dishes within the prefix menu, or an egg salad sandwich, the food is delicious every single time without fail. The commitment to excellence and also warm and inviting service is obvious the second you walk in the door and then you experience it first hand the entire meal. We were there Monday night for dinner and the chef came out to serve my sons a special dessert. These are the fine touches that make Bell's special. The seasoning on everything from the simple salad, to the intricately planned pre fix dishes is spot on. I just love this restaurant. Go as soon as you can. We will be back again and again.

Fantastic, and worth the drive! This restaurant truly has heart and soul, and you can tell everyone working here believes in it. Every plate and bit was pure precision and I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience here. For someone who does not like sea urchin, the sea urchin dish was my favorite! I will definitely be coming back!
Be the first to ReplyThe food, service and ambiance are excellent.
The service is extremely nice, knowledgeable and inviting, for dogs too! The caviar is worth the cost and I love that they have a $5 beer on the menu ;) highly recommend the lamb and the ice cream (best ice cream I've ever had).

My family and I came for a birthday dinner while in Los Alamos for a few days. We sat outside on the super lovely and despite the rain, were nice and warm! Our server, Chris, was excellent. I tried the uni canape, salad, lamb agnolotti, pepper crusted steak, rice pudding, and gateu breton (it's a pre-fix menu). The uni was okay, just not a personal favorite. The lamb stuffed pasta was absolutely delicious, as was the steak (cooked perfectly medium rare) and both desserts. Would highly recommend if you are in the area or just passing through!
Be the first to ReplyThis place is one of my favorites.
Each time we drive by or spend the weekend in town, this is a must stop. Food is never disappoints. What's crazy is, usually no one recommends an egg salad sandwich. And this one is THE best one ever. It is our must order. Steak frites is usually a hit or miss and this place nails it. Also ordered the chicken pate, which was good but only my personal preference, I want it softer. Also the escargot is a usual order too. The service is great, and have good insights and recommendations, as well as explanations. This place deserves their Michelin star.

Excellent service, delicious food and really nice lunch spot! Enjoyed a complimentary glass of bubbly while I waited. Last minute reservation that I was able to squeeze in.Chicken paillard was perfectly cooked. Hope to visit again soon. Highly recommend!

Took our chance on walk in for lunch on a Sunday for my partner's birthday. We sat at the counter and got top tier service from a nice gentleman named Chris. He was kind and knowledgeable, and helped us order: Steak Tartare (Sandwich), Mussels, and 2 glasses of wine, a Chenin blanc bubbly and buttery chard. Finished with a butter cake and cappuccino for dessert. 10/10 all around. Chris deserves a raise!

I was lucky to snag a walk-in spot at the bar this week for lunch! I'm not surprised that this place totally lived up to my expectations. Classic, fresh, memorable flavor and surroundings. The soup du jous was velvety, lick-your-lips good. My salad entree was vibrant and crisp. The gateau Breton was the perfect buttery finish. Pleasant in every aspect! I love the built-in service charge and the way the restaurant so clearly cares for its staff, farmers, and purveyors.

Had a glorious 5 course dinner and every course was interesting and delicious. Zack was a terrific server and made for a really enjoyable meal. A must when visiting Los Alamos.

Went for lunch and was completely blown away at the whole experience. Lunch is more of a bistro menu with some recognizable items kicked up a notch (or two) and some very unique offerings. We started with tinned Sardines and home made Saltines...oh my what a surprise with exquisite sardines from Spain that we couldn't stop eating. For our main dishes I got the mussels in wine/butter and seasoned fries that were up there with the best I have eaten. My husband got their iconic egg salad sandwich that had large pieces of eggs (not your typical egg salad) and he loved it. Service was incredible, our server Chris was a gem and recommended the perfect wine to compliment my mussels. 1 app+2 entrees+1 glass wine+ cappucino+tip for approx $100...what a great value for a Michelin star restaurant and an experience we will never forget! Tip: We sat at the bar and watched all the food being prepared and we got to talk to Greg, the co-owner, and learned a lot about how he started this restaurant
Be the first to ReplyIncredible dinner last night.
Everything was so good. I woke up thinking of each course we enjoyed. Our waiter, Ricky, did a fabulous job of taking care of our table of four. I can't wait to go again.

Very intimate yet hip dining experience that is reasonably priced when you consider the high level of service and excellent food. Bells has become a regular and favorite spot to eat on the Central Coast. I love that it's a five course prix fixe that challenges me to go out of my element and try new things. Bring great bottle of wine( or order one of theirs prices are reasonable) and some good company for what has so far always been a memorable night for us.

Finally made it out Bell's and we were glad we made the trek. More and more I find myself intentionally avoiding pre-perusing the menus of new restaurants we go to but it was hard to avoid the delicious images of the caviar and uni mille crepe so I knew I had to have it. "She will be mine!"Cut to our lunch, we were seated at a really nice outdoor table, appropriate for a baby stroller (my niece) and nicely shaded. It was a nice day out and the perfect weather. We started with the tinned sardines, the mille crepe and the chicken liver mousse. The sardines were not our taste but we were glad we stepped outside the box to give them a try. The chicken liver mousse was delish but the star of the whole entire show was the mille crepe. If I had my druthers (as in, it was just me and hubby), I would have made a meal out of 3 orders of that. Yum.For entrees, we ordered everything but the mussels on the lower half of the menu and doubled up on the steak tartare. I'm a steak tartare fanatic so that was a non-negotiable. It was *chef's kiss*. Everything else was also delicious - my mom dubbed the steak add-on on her lunch salad as "the best steak she has had since she got here" (in Aug) and that's high praise indeed. But perhaps the biggest surprise was the egg salad sandwich. It's completely unlike any other egg salad sando we've ever had with a layer of some fruit jam that cut through the richness of the yolk and took it to another level.Service was attentive yet chill - something I don't think anyone anywhere else has accomplished. Our guy checked up on us at regular intervals but wasn't overbearing or intense. He just wanted to make sure we weren't thirsty, dead or dying. Everyone else we encountered was super sweet and nice.Bell's is definitely worth a trip out to Los Alamos. We'll have to give the dinner a try next time.
