Bao time
The baos were good and authentic. Anyone who has ever been to the night market in Taipei will be a little disappointed. Nevertheless, the food was good and the staff were friendly.
Be the first to ReplyStill pricey, with added cheek when getting the bill
Still a 12.5% service charge (even if you get seated on a little stool at a counter), but now they present the bill expecting you to scan a QR code linking to a 3rd party site that charges its own fee ON TOP OF the service charge. The "crispy noodle chips" at £2.75 are crunchy nothingness, a waste of money. The 33cl £5.60 beer was out of stock - the alternative was £6.70 (equivalent of £11.53 a pint - wow)

We dropped in for a light lunch, this is a small venue filled with a lot of energy and amazing food. The servers forgetting our glasses and one of our bao is the only reason this is not a 5 star review.......the food is definitely 5 star. I can't recommend this place highly enough for a lunch that's l slightly different.....
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, friendly staff
Brilliant food, really interesting and inventive. More importantly for us though, the guy that served us (Mike, I think) was really helpful and friendly and didn’t make a couple of tourists like us feel stupid or intimidated, like some London restaurants can. Will definitely be back next time we’re in the capital.
Be the first to ReplyBest BAO in London
This is the best restaurant in town to get BAO. It is very small and you should either make a reservation or be patient and wait in line.
Be the first to ReplyCozy
Cozy atmosphere great food and drinks Mike was really friendly and patient Love the chicken And the beef bao. Good location as well.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday treat and what a treat!
A must anticipated and planned visit to this compact and bejoux eatery. Delicious tasty treats served quickly and professionally. The space, tables and dishes are small but ideal. The occasion was magnified by the presentation of a complimentary Horlicks Bao as a birthday treat. Thank you to one and all at BAO. Keep up the great work.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent spot for lunch
Excellent spot for lunch, do a great lunch deal on weekdays, Bao 15, where you can select a bao bun, a small dish and a larger dish just for £15. All the food was delicious, excellent service, would definitely reccomend.
Be the first to ReplyOrder something you’re not sure about
The bao here is wonderful, and you should definitely order some, but you will be rewarded with some exciting flavours if you stray into their xiao chi (small plate) menu. We didn’t wait long to be seated at the bar, and from there things are snappy and efficient
Be the first to ReplyGreat Bao !!
This is a lovely intimate Bao restaurant. The service is perfect and the food great. Excellent Taiwan beer to accompany your food too ! We shared the following but the menu changes on a regular basis: Aubergine Wonton, Trotter Nuggets (delicious), Rump Cap and Lamb Uyghur both perfect. As for the confit pork !! Thanks for a great well priced for the location lunch.
Be the first to ReplyAccording to the Michelin guide- these buns are worth queuing for. And they're right.
🔻 Price - ££ Fairly priced, they offer a set menu which for lunch which we took advantage of. nice, simple portion- nothing too heavy. 🔻 I had: Classic Bao, Taiwanese fried chicken, Soy glazed Aubergine, Guine Fowl Shang Rice 🔻 Food: The taiwanese fried chicken was great, crispy and juicy at the same time, a little too basic with the spice however, i think its just simple sriracha. The Soy Glazed Aubergine was cold- a little surprising for me, extremely fragrant flavour, wasnt a big fan. The Guinea fowl rice bowl was great, though the 'fowl' part was quite small, its a nice little rice bowl. The star of the show is of course the classic Pork Bao, which was expected was great. Fluffy white bun, Juicy and full of flavour. 🔻 Ambience/Service: Great! Very minimalist vibe, it got busy extremely quick but the staff were very attentive and knowledgeable with the menu. 🔻 Summary: Though all the other dishes were great i think they were outdone by the Bao here which was miles ahead in terms of flavour. Really good spot for lunch providing there's no queues! 🔻 Social: ► Instagram: Selwoodeats ► TikTok: Selwoodeats
Be the first to ReplyCramped but great for a quick bite
Excellent £20 menu gives you fried chicken, a great bao bun and a guinea fowl and rice dish. You also get peanut milk then tea to drink. It is plain inside and not hugely comfy but still worth a visit and I will definitely be back
Be the first to ReplyGood food
The pork buns were delicious and so soft. The mushrooms were recommended by the waiter but quite disappointing, tasted a bit like card and they came a long time after the rest of our food was finished. Staff were friendly and the grape soda float was yummy and refreshing. The Soho restaurant is very small and cramped and the toilet is a little awkward with just a sliding door between it and diners.
Be the first to ReplyExpensive, for rather bland food
We had wanted to try Bao for a long time and got a reservation for today. The restaurant is very small / cramped tables with tiny stools. Drinks were expensive and small in volume. Food was expensive and small … The main issue for me was that two of the three varieties of bao we ordered were very bland, and the bao themselves were dry and cloying. The lamb bao was the only flavoursome dish we ate here. At £80 (two drinks, water, a soft drink, 6 bao and a small dish) this was an expensive meal and not particularly enjoyable to eat.
Be the first to ReplyFood was decent but service was really rude
Food is really expensive and not out of this world. The service was extremely rude as they did not welcome us properly even though we had a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and staff. Will be a regular.
Really lovely little restaurant. The staff were really nice and explained everything. The food was really good. Will definitely go back and try some of the other dishes. Reasonably priced for dinner in London especially when the food tastes so good. We paid £39.00 per head with drinks and more than enough food.
Be the first to ReplyBest bao in London
After having eaten at Bao I don’t think any other experience eating buns can ever be topped again. The food was so good that me and my friend ordered another round just so that we could experience all the lush tastes and textures again. I had the aubergine sides and the veggie bao, which contained a lovely mixture of seasoning and flavour. The fluffiness of the buns cannot be faulted, I don’t think I’ve ever had such fluffy bao in my life. Definitely book in advance so you can get seating, otherwise you may have to wait a while for a table, but it is testament to how excellent the food is that so many people are willing to wait for takeaway or a table. The food is prepared quickly and I don’t think anywhere else does bao as well as Bao.
Be the first to ReplyOverhype, not worth the price
We did not make a reservation , so ordered a veg bao daikon for 5.5 gbp as take away for a snack , expecting it would have minimum 2 portions of small baos if not 3. For take away in this price , we received a tiny little paper envelope with a 3 by 3 inch bao bun with a patty that’s it . Taste was ok , totally not worth the money and hype.😳
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Like other reviewers, I had heard great things about this restaurant but unfortunately, I was disappointed upon visiting. The food is overpriced (£100 approx, for 3 ppl). The service was also subpar. Won't be visiting again.
Be the first to ReplyBest Bao's in town
We were seated quickly after not having a reservation. Service and staff were great and food amazing :)
Be the first to ReplyOkay!
The restaurant is very small and very busy. They had a medium choice of different fillings, I enjoyed my bao bun but I was left feeling a bit deflated because of the price. We waited outside because of how busy it was inside and they brought them out quickly, the service was very good too.
Be the first to ReplyNEVER DISAPPOINTS
This small restaurant is always busy and there’s a reason for this, the service is outstanding and the quality of the food is phenomenal. The ambiance is perfect for a quick lunch and the menu is limited but there doesn’t need to be any additional dishes added. The freshness of the food is so noticeable and each dish is made to order. It’s like tapas. However, on a different level. I highly recommend this restaurant, but be prepared to wait for a table although the wait is so worth it.
Be the first to ReplyCould’ve Eaten More!
Absolutely fantastic food and very friendly service. Tried to get a walk in table, we’re told 20-30 minutes and our details taken for an automated text when the table was ready - handy for wandering round Soho and having a quick beer! Staff were super friendly and helpful, the food was absolutely to die for. So light and flavourful. We don’t get to come to London much, but have definitely pencilled in coming back to visit Bao Soho. Thank you so much for an amazing evening, fingers crossed we are back to see you soon. Unfortunately I didn’t get our servers name, but she was incredibly helpful, friendly and attentive, so could you please pass on thanks😊 Sorry we didn’t take any photos of the food, it was gone too quickly, so have one of us enjoying ourselves instead!
Be the first to ReplyA bit pricey for what it is
Overall the food was good, the only thing that I thought that the portions sizes are much smaller than I expected and were on the pricey side.
Be the first to ReplyTotal mess
They did not accept cash payment, illegal act as refusing to accept legal tender, they had no warning about it at the door, they told us we couldn't sit inside with plenty of empty tables---so 5 adults and three small children of which one 6 months old had to sit outise in freezing weather, they did not have one of the staple teas we wanted to order and when they brought one overpriced espresso, (£5) and one second choice tea to us outside they had not included the two buns we had ordered and paid for the total bil of £14. Worst place we have visited in London, never again
