BAO Soho London Reviews from The Last Year
Good lunch
Great little restaurant serving interesting food. Very busy with a great atmosphere. Staff efficient and helpful. We enjoyed it.
Bland food in a minimal interior
Baos were okay, had much better baos elsewhere. The only really good thing was the quick service and getting us a table without us having booked any seats ahead of time. Food was fresh, but flavorless nonetheless .
Bao time
The baos were good and authentic. Anyone who has ever been to the night market in Taipei will be a little disappointed. Nevertheless, the food was good and the staff were friendly.
Still pricey, with added cheek when getting the bill
Still a 12.5% service charge (even if you get seated on a little stool at a counter), but now they present the bill expecting you to scan a QR code linking to a 3rd party site that charges its own fee ON TOP OF the service charge. The "crispy noodle chips" at £2.75 are crunchy nothingness, a waste of money. The 33cl £5.60 beer was out of stock - the alternative was £6.70 (equivalent of £11.53 a pint - wow)
Best Bao in London
We dropped in for a light lunch, this is a small venue filled with a lot of energy and amazing food. The servers forgetting our glasses and one of our bao is the only reason this is not a 5 star review.......the food is definitely 5 star. I can't recommend this place highly enough for a lunch that's l slightly different.....
Amazing food, friendly staff
Brilliant food, really interesting and inventive. More importantly for us though, the guy that served us (Mike, I think) was really helpful and friendly and didn’t make a couple of tourists like us feel stupid or intimidated, like some London restaurants can. Will definitely be back next time we’re in the capital.
Best BAO in London
This is the best restaurant in town to get BAO. It is very small and you should either make a reservation or be patient and wait in line.
We stopped on our walk by and it did not disappoint.
Great service and the confit & fried chicken boa buns were off the charts good. Great time.
Cozy
Cozy atmosphere great food and drinks Mike was really friendly and patient Love the chicken And the beef bao. Good location as well.
Birthday treat and what a treat!
A must anticipated and planned visit to this compact and bejoux eatery. Delicious tasty treats served quickly and professionally. The space, tables and dishes are small but ideal. The occasion was magnified by the presentation of a complimentary Horlicks Bao as a birthday treat. Thank you to one and all at BAO. Keep up the great work.
Buns are one of my favorite foods in the world so
Buns are one of my favorite foods in the world so expectations were high. I was still blown away! There's often a line outside and the interior is small so it can feel a little hectic, but it's a really beautiful space that also feels trendy. We came in a party of two on a weeknight and they were able to squeeze us immediately, with that caveat that we had to leave within an hour for another party's reservation. We ordered 3 buns to share between the two of us and we immediately ordered more. The confit pork was extravagant. Soft and absolutely melt in your mouth. It's like they took all the best qualities of a traditional pork belly bun and put it together. The party next to us was halal and they had a little trouble ordering because all the fried items are fried in the same oil.
I cannot recommend Bao highly enough.
The food was amazing, the staff was friendly and provided recommendations, and I left feeling satisfied and that I'd gotten my money's worth. We tried a lot more than what is pictured here, but we couldn't stop eating long enough to take the pictures.
This is a very small, intimate place in the SoHo district.
Walking in the staff was extremely friendly and we were immediately seated. Our waiter reviewed the menu with us and gave us great suggestions. I filled out the little order form and handed it to our waiter. In total, we ordered the scallop appetizer along with the confit pork, fried chicken and braised beef bao buns with a side of sweet potato chips that came with an interesting plum pickle ketchup. As a tea lover, I couldn't resist ordering the 10-year aged Oolong tea as I've never had an aged tea. The order came out in less than 10 minutes and so we dug in. The scallop appetizer was really tasty with a nice char on the outside. Each of the bao buns themselves were so soft and just melted in my mouth. The filings for each were super flavorful. The confit pork and braised beef were very tender and packed a flavor punch. The friend chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The sweet potato chips (fries) were nice and crispy, and the plum pickle ketchup provided was a nice change from a regular tomato ketchup. As for the 10-year aged Oolong tea, it has an earthier taste than most Oolongs I've tasted. It was worth trying just for my own personal knowledge. Overall, this is a great place to grab a quick, light bite while in the SoHo district but take note that the establishment is very small and not good for large groups.
Excellent spot for lunch
Excellent spot for lunch, do a great lunch deal on weekdays, Bao 15, where you can select a bao bun, a small dish and a larger dish just for £15. All the food was delicious, excellent service, would definitely reccomend.
Order something you’re not sure about
The bao here is wonderful, and you should definitely order some, but you will be rewarded with some exciting flavours if you stray into their xiao chi (small plate) menu. We didn’t wait long to be seated at the bar, and from there things are snappy and efficient
Great Bao !!
This is a lovely intimate Bao restaurant. The service is perfect and the food great. Excellent Taiwan beer to accompany your food too ! We shared the following but the menu changes on a regular basis: Aubergine Wonton, Trotter Nuggets (delicious), Rump Cap and Lamb Uyghur both perfect. As for the confit pork !! Thanks for a great well priced for the location lunch.
