I am the first to admit that I am extremely critical of Indian restaurants. Ate at Badmaash at the DTLA location for the first time last night. The flavors were amazing and we enjoyed everything we ordered. When the seek kebab came out in a gravy I was kind of skeptical as I have never seen it served that way. Absolutely loved the flavor. Goat with bone was great too. I wish they had parathas instead of just naan and roti. Food was on the heavier side but that is not necessarily a negative as good food generally is. Our server Miles was great.
Be the first to ReplyBEST CHAI I'VE EVER HAD.
I came to Badmaash because it looked like modern Indian food / fusion. I do like Indian food and wanted to see what a fusion spin would be like. Everything was delicious! My Indian friend said it's more like fusion as opposed to authentic Indian food, but we don't care if it's fusion or not because everything was so tasty! At first I didn't want to get the staple dishes like butter chicken or Tikka masala but after looking at the menu, I really did want to have butter chicken that day. Loved it. I'd like to return and try other dishes! My friend also recommended we order another dish but I can't remember what it was called. It had yogurt, tamarind sauce, and some other things and you eat with something like a nacho chip. It was delicious and very new to me! I love trying new food. Only complaint is that the music is too loud so you have to yell when talking. The best part of my meal was getting the chai for dessert!!!!!! I normally have chai made from a mix from a bag, and I was told that chai from a bag is usually not very good. Real good chai is often homemade. I guess I'll say I've never had real good chai until now! The oat chai at Badmaash is the best chai I've ever had by a long shot. My Indian friend (who makes chai at home) said that the oat chai was pretty good. The website says they sell their chai in stores such as Erewhon so I'll be getting some more chai for myself!

This spot serves up sensational dishes with top-notch service. If you're a fan of Indian cuisine with a twist, this is the spot to check out - it's a fusion of flavors that won't disappoint. The music adds to the fantastic ambiance, and the diverse crowd creates a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be adding this place to my regular dining rotation. The only drawback is their limited liquor license, restricting options to beer and wine.

Nahh. The food lacked depth and the service was horrible. I can get past bad service if the food is spectacular, but this ain't it. The chicken samosa was fine, the Dahl puri was almost all yogurt, way off balance. The short rib was over salted, the tandoori chicken had too strong of pepper flavor, and the okra had nothing to bind it together or balance its flavor. Our server pretty much checked out once we put in our order, too. Never around, didn't bring the extra rice we ordered, and we had to flag down someone else for the check. Indian food is my favorite, but not here.

I loved it all! I'm currently taking a course on food and wine in California and one of the assignments was to watch Badmassh's episode in The Migrant Kitchen series. Their story was so inspiring and so loving. I was amazed that it was located in LA. Born and raised in south east LA, currently living Sacramento and attending San Francisco State University, I was so happy chefs Nakul and Arjun and their parents place this beautiful place in SoCal. I travelled down, saying I was gonna visit family, but I truly wanted to experience this. It was wonderful. My friend and I were lucky that we had the whole restaurant to ourselves and our server was so nice and knowledgeable on all the dishes. He even gave us the Parle-G ice cream sandwich and hot chai to top off our meals. It truly was a great experience. I highly recommend visiting this place if you're in dtla. I also recommend watching their KECT episode too! I'll leave the url for y'all !! https://lifeandthyme.com/video/migrant-kitchen-badmaash/

Some of my colleagues and I went to this restaurant for the first time. The food was excellent taste and quality. The Lamb Curry was a little spicier than I expected, but it was delicious and went perfectly with rice and garlic naan. The waiter, John, was very nice and courteous. He single handedly was serving all of the guests with a high focus and pleasant presence. Highly recommend this place. Enjoy

I was interested in visiting what they advertised as Indian fusion cuisine. I had difficulty identifying the fusion aspect of the menu. The place is small and there is very little space between the tables. The restaurant was out of all their red wines except one. It was not very good. The waiter suggested one that was not on the menu for $85 per bottle. The food was good but not as high quality as I expected. Of all the entrees we tried the grilled chicken stood out. The Indian cuisine is not up to my standards. I was generous with a three-star rating. Poor price/value relationship.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely not the place for Indian food.
.. and for the positive reviews... honestly I think they are written by folks who have never had proper Indian food. The short rib dish had chunks that were so dry it was stale and crunchy in spots... it tasted as if it was pre-cooked and then microwaved with the sauces. (Should I post a photo of this tragic waste of an expensive cut of meat?) The butter chicken... below average and way too sweet and greasy. It tastes very Americanized... not just a fusion version. The small container of rice for $6 is insane. The chili cheese naan... also a no, especially for $10! It was the smallest pieces of naan lacking that doughy chewy goodness and with way too much cheese + not enough chilis. My friend and I were SUPER disappointed after spending $80 for this food. While this wasn't the worst Indian food we've had, it's down there. Lol.

This was a very lively small restaurant on a Tuesday night with a steady stream of takeout leaving often. Lucky to be seated at 7:30 without reservation, very nice staff explained the menu. We had chicken tikka masala and especially delicious traditional samosas and I think there was even more lovely dishes as well. Best meal by far in the neighborhood!

Loved Badmaash! So much hype around this place but it was extremely well deserved. I'm Indian and the food was as authentic as the dishes were presented out to be. Dessert was the best though : )The Butter Chicken was made as it should be (rich, creamy, flavorful), same with the samosas which were crisp and delicious. We got rice and parathas to go with the curry. Between the appetizer, a drink for each of us, we had enough room in our stomach to only split 1 entrée, hence just the butter chicken (perfect amount of food IMO).The star of the show was the dessert. The Parle-G ice cream sandwich was excellent. A nice little spin on the old childhood dessert. I loved every bit of it, but maybe just because it reminded me of home.Overall it was worth every penny we spent!
Be the first to ReplyService was non-existent, not sure who my server was.
The paapdi chaat was burnt. The butter chicken had the wrong flavor and that flavor was so strong that you couldn't even eat it. I am south asian and this is not what indian cuisine should taste like. Make sure to check your bill when you get charged on your cc because they added an additional tip to the final receipt that I did not sign off on. Shady!!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyOverall, an excellent experience.
The ambiance is dim, loud and a little cramped. Tables are spaced adequately apart. The service is really good, with enough staff to make sure that the waits aren't long. The food is exquisite... fresh, well-prepared and very flavorful. Enjoyed the Parle G dessert - simple idea, but loved it! Note: parking is at a public lot nearby.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my second or third time ordering from this
This is my second or third time ordering from this establishment. The food is top notch. No doubt about that. As far as I can tell, no matter what you order, it's delicious. So there is no need to go into too many details on this. It is definitely worth the price, even though the portions are smaller than other places. My guy is a chef and he loves the place, so there you go.Now, I am giving four stars because this particular night, they messed up half my order. If you read one of my other reviews, I have been looking for authentic poutine fries. Well, guess who had poutine fries on the menu? Yep, this place did...chicken tikka poutine. Sounds lovely and if they had remembered to put my chicken on it, it may have tasted lovely also. But alas, no chicken tikka for me. However, the poutine fries with sauce was fine. They also forgot to put chili in the chili cheese naan so, that was a disappointment. I actually contacted DoorDash and got a credit and partial refund for the mistakes. Would I order from them again? Not anytime soon, but in the future maybe, once the sting and disappointment wears off. The dishes are not cheap and this place has a good reputation so, yeah, I really expect them to be accurate and not short anyone on their dish. But everyone has an off night sometimes. If anyone knows of a good place to buy poutine fries, send me a message! I'm still on the hunt :)

On the eve of Saturday March 11th 2023 my wife, sister and I had one of the most welcoming, hospitable and gastronomically satisfying experience at Badmash Los Angeles. We made reservations after searching for great Indian restaurant in Los Angeles. We read great reviews about Badmash. Earlier in the week I has suffered an ancle injury of which I was still recovering from. I was close to canceling and staying home. In spite of the pain, we decided to go anyway. It was a wise choice to do so, otherwise this little review wouldn't have been written. The restaurant had these really cool old Indian films playing on the wall towards the ceiling in order to not distract but to show cool old Bollywood film snippets. The music was modern and had a really nice vibe. I could already see from the guests inside that it was a diverse group of people who were truly enjoying the Indian classics a al Badmaash. From the kitchen I noticed plates carried out with crispy fried Samosas and what looked like to be a traditional Canadian dish (poutine). I could smell the delicious wafts of spices used in the Guan pork curry, the cardamom in the chai, what a feast!Right next to a pilar and next to the kitchen I noticed a young gentleman wearing a cool hat and sun glasses at a table. I thought it was just another guest but he seemed to be aware of all the guests and what was happening all around. At my table my walker rested against that my leg and I accidentally kicked it to the ground. The gentleman got up as asked if he can set it aside until the end of our meal and later he would ensure that one of the waiters would get it for me. So I enquired: "are you the owner?" humbly he replied he was one of the owners. My name is Nakul he said with a great smile on his face. He spent a good 10 minutes talking to us at our table. Every question we asked he was willing to answer. How long has your restaurant been here? Poutine is Canadian? Did you ever live there? What's that delicious tanginess in the pork curry? (He said it was secret recipe of grandmas pickled mangos). We talked about the amazing Indian nation and its mesmerizing cuisine from some of the regions we were all fond of. Suffice to say we felt we broke bread that night with this cool restaurant owner Mr. Nakul Mahendro!! First time ever met him, but we felt so, so welcomed to come back. So there in lies the experience, yes the food was DELICIOS, but the host was down to earth, gracious and kind!Ahh by the way we must reveal this secret, aka a testament to this restaurant owners desire to a gracious host. Nakul ordered our desserts, which included 3 "eye rolling to the back of the head delectable chai lattes" on him, then left!!!What?? He left??? We didn't get a chance to thank him!!!! So, we (myself my wife and sister) decided to write this little thank you note!!Thank you, Nakul, so much we had an amazing evening we won't forget!! Nakul... you're too cool!!! Thanks again. Mike

If you are an Indian and looking for good Indian food (what you get in India or what you get in popular bay area Indian restaurants), this place is NOT FOR YOU. We live in Bay area and were very excited to know about this restaurant due to Micheline mention during our LA trip. We gave 2 shots to this restaurant but were royally disappointed each time :(I grew up in north India and have very low bar for good Indian food and this place is horrible even for my standard. This restaurant might be built to keep more local audience in mind, it certainly is not for those looking for Indian snacks, chaat and curries. Food seems bland, lacks the right spices with very little flavor for an Indian restaurant. The breads (roti/naan) are even worse - chewy and not well made. Didn't feel anything special about the ingredients/ vegetables used.Besides, the restaurant is very loud (loud music and people shouting to talk to each other make it a chaos) and dirty, and has water leaking from air ducts. This is not a place for family, especially if you have young kids.
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance - 1/5 It is noisy and hard to see inside.
Maybe the idea is to remove the sense of sight of what you are eating ?Service - 3/5 They are friendly and courteous. But cannot help if you have any issues Food - 3/5 Butter chicken was good. The Rosemary naan is really good. The badass chicken tikka is just bad. So stay away from it.Samosas and Dal makhni are good. The portion sizes are small. To be honest we were not sure what the hype is. There is really nothing great about this place to warrant getting a reservation and then waiting to be seated.

Badmaash was on my list to try for a long time and finally decided to eat here when I was nearby. I made a reservation online a couple days before. Butter Chicken - our favorite dish! It was creamy and flavorful. We ordered a side of rice and rosemary naan, which were perfect to eat with thisBadmaash Fried Chicken - it was kinda dry Chicken Tikka Poutine - this was a fun fusion. Fries had a nice crisp and there were lots of chicken on top. I thought the chicken was salty after awhile

Ambiance -4/5 bit tight congested Food -3/5 did not like that much . Found it bland food . Not for desi taste . Ordered saag paneer 4/5, chicken tikka masala 3/5, roti 5/5, papri Chaat -4/5
Be the first to ReplyI was excited to try this place out.
It's famed east west fusion was what I was anticipating. Unfortunately, I got overpriced and very average Indian food. There is no ambiance. It's a run of the mill downtown eatery. The only real highlight was the exceptional service.
Be the first to ReplyWe went there tonight because the reviews were so good.
We were disappointed. I had to send the pork belly back. It was all fat. No meat. The chicken was good but they charge extra for rice. The place was very noisy which made it difficult to talk. Our bill was a little high considering I sent my main dish back.
Be the first to ReplyFood and atmosphere were great.
Fusion options were fun and interesting but still felt authentic. Thought it was weird that the entrees didn't come with rice or naan, but everything was delicious anyway

This is basically like a trendy, arty, hole in the wall in downtown LA. But they make up for that with the food... Some of the best Indian food I've ever had Punjabi style.. they had this chicken which was called bad ass chicken! It was And I forgot the name of the the white fish that we had but it was so flavorful. The flavors were off the chain. The naan bread and yogurt sauce so delicious. The staff were so friendly. Make a reservation if you can because it's a very small restaurant...
Be the first to ReplyI love the food here.
I've dined in and gotten take out. Food was great, while having a straight forward approach. In times where restaurants try to fly a fine dining flag, the experience with them is always satisfying and tasty.
