This was absolutely amazing! We had just gotten back from greece not too long ago and we were amazing how great the food was!! But I must say our server Dimitria was the best. She gave us recommendations that were great! Food came out in wonderful order and was perfect.
Be the first to ReplyThey have an amazing pre-fixe and the ambience is nice.
The food is incredible. The service is impeccable.

Having been to, and enjoyed Avra on several occasions in the past, I decided to take my wife there for a birthday dinner. We were very disappointed. Though the service was adequate, both of our entrees were quite overcooked. We had halibut with sauteed spinach, and seafood youvetsi (a Greek version of paella with orzo). The halibut was tasty, but tough (i.e. overcooked), and the youvetsi orzo was exceptionally soft, with overcooked (rubbery) shrimp, clams, scallops and seemingly less-than-fresh mussels. We made our dissatisfaction clear to our waitress who in turn notified the manager (who came to our table to confirm), but whose concern was limited only to understanding what was wrong. The manager didn't so much as even offer an apology. I won't be returning. The bloom is off this rose.
Be the first to ReplyFood is excellent.
Service slow. I had to ask for a waiter to order and to get my bill. Table next to me had to ask for a waiter to order. Male waiters standing around a service station. Ambiance is lovely. Just need to get waiters toe
Be the first to ReplyThis is a great restaurant.
The food is fresh and expertly prepared. The service is responsive and friendly. We ate outside and enjoyed the great weather and cozy setting.
Be the first to ReplyWant fresh seafood? They have it here.
Got the calamari, ceviche, grilled shrimp, and lobster pasta. Everything is fresh, healthy, maybe not the most flavorful, but fresh and healthy. Definitely felt rushed to order here though so maybe we panic ordered. Good for business travel dinner but I don't think I'd come here with friends.
Be the first to ReplyI had a very nice prefixe lunch here.
They give you free bread, pita, hummus, olives, radish, and roasted red pepper to start. The hummus was very nice. My bread was warm! For appetizer I had grilled calamari which was soft and almost creamy. Branzino for main - generous portion! Light and fresh. I like that they serve it with the head on. Tasty and deceptively large slice of walnut cake for dessert, soaked in a sugar syrup at the bottom. The restaurant was packed. I sat at the bar and service was good, unremarkable. Paid about $50 for lunch including tax and tip. Expensive but worth it!

I haven't been to Avra for over two years and I was delighted to see some of the managers I knew from sometime ago were still there. They were incredibly accommodating to me as a single diner and gave me choices of seating. I opted for the outside seating as it was a beautiful day. The service was as expected, excellent front. This was a lunch meal and I opted for a green salad with grilled salmon. They didn't have the grilled salmon as an option on the menu, but when I requested it, they were able to make it happen. Every bite was delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked, fresh, and delicious. I'm so happy that Restaurant was able to make it through the challenging years and it's still a wonderful go to place on the east side. Thanks Avra team!

I've been going to Avra group for over a decade. Great service and food
Be the first to ReplyFood Quality- Ordered medium done lamb chops .
They came under cooked as in raw. Sent them back and they came back almost burnt. Very little meat on them. Mostly fat. Price? $75 For appetizer ordered "Avra chips". Consisted of fried zucchini. Very average. Price over $ 30. Service; Rushed. Not enough staff for the number of guests in the restaurant Ambience. very small tables jammed inside a very tight space which is overwhelmed by heavy traffic I hardly ever . Felt like we were having dinner inside a crowded railway station terminal. Only thing we liked was the bottled sparkling water (Zagori)
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience.
I thought at first that we were being shunted off to the hinterlands (to the "wine room") but, in fact, while not as "vibey" as the front and outdoor areas, was a notch or two quieter and actually a nice space, too. Server was one charming mf and we were not kept waiting for anything. The olive-and-hummus complimentary plate was great. Can't say that the red snapper (picked from the display case of whole fish) was worth $101... but excellent. The fish soup... not really. The vibe, the vitality, the ambience, the service all compensated for the shortcomings of the soup and the cost of the whole fish.

We went to Avra Saturday night for dinner and my wife's birthday along with our daughter and son in law. I will say it was a pleasant evening, but I have some issues with the restaurant. We frequent many restaurants and can honestly say we eat out almost all Saturday nights. I very rarely write reviews pro or con but I feel this is worth saying. Friends of ours love Avra, but I don't understand why. The food was nothing special, it was good but for the price I feel there is much better in Manhattan. If you want to be a top end restaurant in midtown I feel you have to be better then average and it was not. The issue that bothered me the most was when we sat down we were asked what kind of water we wanted and we said tap. Keep in mind we are life long New York City residents and we know NYC has the best drinking water in the world. The water came in bottles and I assumed they were being refilled. At times the bus boys also refilled our glasses from pitchers. When all was said and done the check had a $30.00 water charge. When I brought it to the attention of the server she said she was sorry. I feel she was a good waitress but I feel this was not acceptable. I don't like to make a fuss but our check was well over $ 500.00 I paid the bill but I will never go back to this restaurant and I would not recommend it.

Nice upscale restaurant! You can keep it casual or dress up if you'd like! Make sure you order plenty of appetizers to try! The Mykonos Breeze drink was my favorite. Also can get very busy so I suggest making a reservation!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Lunch!! Really nice Greek restaurant.
Waitress was super nice. Went on a business lunch, slightly loud for any in depth conversation but we also sat in the lounge area bc it was a little last minute so idk if regular seating is a little more spacious. Overall pleasant experience.
Be the first to ReplyAvra will always be in my top 5.
A perfect place and my go to for special occasions. Everything is thoughtful and superb. Always the freshest food and superior service! Don't forget to pair an amazing wine with your meal. And definitely don't skip out on dessert here! Paired with a cappuccino or a cup of tea of course. Don't think about it, just make the reservation! :)
Be the first to ReplyHad a business lunch meeting here.
We arrived early. They brought out really delicious and fresh bread with butter that had sea salt or kosher salt sprinkled on it. The meals we ordered were the Bifteki, Tuna Nicoise, and Plaki. Everyone liked what they ordered. I thought the mustard vinaigrette Tuna Nicoise was mild compared to other times I have had Tuna Nicoise. It filled up rather quickly. There were a lot of conversations going on. However, you do not have to fear being overhead by people at neighboring tables.

Made a reservation via resy same day so I was able to get a great table at the time I wanted. The food and service were both fantastic.

Stopped here for dinner, had a drink while waiting on others to show up at the bar. The fish bar shows you the fresh fish for the night, a good selection of whole fish there. The menu was mostly fish, and the appetizers varied - I liked the octopus grilled, classic spreads were ok, and the sea bass souvlaki was just so-so. The main dishes we shared a strip steak (just ok, a little over cooked for medium rare), sea bass plaki was ok (again, not sure why so much tomato sauce). Grilled veggies were fine, and the truffle fries too dry (they need to cut them thinner). Dessert - olive oil cake was ok. Overall the food was ok; the service, though, wasn't great. A lot of waiting for the service between courses, no one around even to refill water after it was requested.
Be the first to ReplyLet me start by saying we went specifically for the lobster
Let me start by saying we went specifically for the lobster pasta and the sepia appetizer. They were out of the sepia which was a major disappointment and we were there for a 5:30 PM reservation so I don't know how they ran out so fast. The best appetizers were the octopus and Avra chips. Also ordered one langoustine and one king prawn which are both priced expensively by the pound. The langoustines were $82 a pound and the king prawn $63 a pound. I was very disappointed by the size of the langoustine, it was tiny, and the king prawn was not so king-ly. Seemed more like a med-large shrimp. Since I only asked for only one of each, I wish they gave me a larger portion. For dinner, we ordered the lamb chops and the lobster pasta. The lamb chops, I ordered medium rare, and there was hardly any pink... they were dry and overcooked, and had way too much char flavor almost like they were burnt. So we did not enjoy those. It also only came with three pieces and for $72 at least give us the fourth piece. But since they weren't that good, I guess the fourth piece wasn't necessary. The lobster pasta was decent. Although the sauce could've had more rich lobster or any kind of seafood flavor. The sauce was just a basic Pomodoro sauce and didn't have any depth to it, but it had a decent amount of lobster meat. Overall, for the steep prices, I don't think this place is worth the visit. Appetizers are as much as entrées at a normal nice restaurant in the city. The food wasn't worth it. Disappointed we came here instead for our anniversary. Passed up ILIS or Atomix, stupid decision.
Be the first to ReplyI love this restaurant.
It's always hopping so you may want reservations. Food is fresh and authentic.

Talk about a trendy seafood, Greek style restaurant , this place is outstanding. Awesome drinks, friendly bartenders to super attentive wait staff this place has it all. Fresh seafood with sides to die for. This is my forth time eating here and each time it is nothing but spectacular.

Very good, though very pricey We came 7:30pm on a Thursday and the place was PACKED. Looks like a lot of colleagues or client dinner meetings, which the atmosphere and food is great for, but as a result the place is so loud with everyone talking.Free bread to start. I loved the Avra Chips with its tzatziki sauce. Both the grilled calamari and the freshly grilled fish we got were tender, light, and delicious. The latter was priced at market rate per pound. They have many fresh fish to choose from. Mediterranean food done well. These 3 dishes and a glass of wine turned out to be ~$100 a person..
