Cool bar located on the first floor of the Eaton Hotel! Was at an event yesterday and wanted to hang out a bit. My friend and I sat at the bar! It was around 3. Found out it was their last day. They'll be closed for a few months for renovations. Ordered an old fashioned and it was great. In fact, I had two! Omari was awesome!! I hope to come back when they re-open!!!

Their drinks are fine, their service is fine, their seating is fine. It's an above average hotel restaurant. But, we came for a 7pm reservation on a Saturday night and they were clean OUT of 20% of their menu. No mussels. No duck. No tuna. We were looking forward to dinner, but we can't dine if there isn't any food. Sorry American Son, if you can't plan for prime time on Saturday, how can you plan to serve guests any day? PS they're about to close this location and open up a new one. Fingers crossed the food supply is better in the new place

To Sherman, Manager & staff: this was one of the worst experiences I've had eating here in DC. Food was cold, service was sub-par and I was told, "I don't need your tip,"...cool. The ambiance was great, music was excellent, but service and food...TRASH. Do NOT go here.
Be the first to ReplyThe service was excellent and the food was worth every bite.
Attached to a great place to stay when visiting DC. I don't think I have ever given a 5 star because folks can always do better but this place was spot on in service and quality. Worth the 5
Be the first to ReplyI want to love this place but unfortunately I do not
I want to love this place but unfortunately I do not because of the menu and low value. We went for dinner on a Monday evening. The menu is all over the place and does not offer appetizers. When we asked, it was a small or large salad or the mussels. Everything else is miniature sized with entree pricing. I had the duck leg which was prepared well but the duck definitely needed salt, more flavor. My partner got the pasta which was overrun with carrots (who puts big carrots in pasta??? Just carrots at that?). It definitely felt like I was paying for overpriced hotel food and I was not a hotel guest, but a local resident. Overall this place needs some serious culinary refinement and direction. A+ on the design and ambiance. C+ on service (I had to ask for S&P 3 times and was given 2 pepper mills - duck was cold and only one bite left by the time they got it).
Be the first to ReplyPicked this place for a last minute brunch.
I was excited to finally try this place out since I've only heard good things. Didn't know it was in the Eaton until I walked up. Had a cool garage style door in front of the restaurant which was perfect since it was so hot. Unfortunately we got sat towards the back but it was mostly empty looked like a classy diner compared to the open air area up front. Our waiter was super friendly and got our orders immediately. He recommended we get the passion fruit cocktail so we both got it. It was fruity and refreshing for the hot day. My girlfriend got the breakfast sandwich and I got the duck confit hash. Breakfast sandwich was substantial, the sausage was good but could've used some spice or sauce. Also I was surprised it didn't come with any side of potatoes or anything. The hash was better, a good amount of duck meat and the runny egg helped mix it together.Overall a solid brunch, I expected a little more as far as unique options but what they did have, they did very well.
Be the first to ReplyOverall, would not recommend American Son.
We sat down and the table was dirty. We asked for it to be wiped down. Then, our food took probably 30 minutes to arrive when the restaurant was half empty. Food came out cold, soggy, and inconsistently cooked (I had the crab cake Benedict and one poached egg was runny, the other was completely hard). Wish I would have sent it back, but it had been so long at that point I just wanted to eat and leave. Soon after leaving, I felt sick, as did my friends who I dined with. To top it off, the check was very overpriced. Wish the restaurant would have worked to remedy this, but I will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to anyone. Very disappointed!

This could be one of the worst restaurants I have gone to in a long time:1) Waiter: A completely inexperienced, inattentive individual showed up to our table 15 minutes after we sat down. Then he gave us waters and said "be right back." Then when taking the order, he didn't know something about an ingredient and, instead of finishing the order taking and then finding out, he disappeared mid-order to get an answer. We barely ever saw our waiter again as he never checked in on us while we waited 45 min for our eggs to arrive. Nor did he check to see if we needed anything after they arrived. Then we were left to wait another 45 minutes for our third course. By the way, it was Mother's Day and there were plenty of waiters for only 10 tables!2) Food: a complete disappointment. My red pepper bisque came out cold and unexciting. The gluten free scone was worse than a store wrapped version you buy in Whole Foods' freezer section. The omelette was just egg with a few veggies. But then there were the "deserts". The FRUIT & BERRIES was worse than a fruit cup from 7 11. The Lemon Cake was dry and tasteless. 3) Decor: Boring. The table they sat us at required us to push the tables together. I am not sure why this restaurant is still in business. A crisis like the one we just went through surely put us out of our misery as a society from the wretchedness of restaurants like this one

So much yes! We went for Mother's Day and even though they were slammed and short staffed the brunch was amazing. The chef brought out my sister food, everything was so delish. The vibes are eclectic and sincere, definitely 5 stars!

Bookmarked this place before I even realized it was in my hotel, Eaton DC. We came for a late night drink and dessert. It's definitely a great place to sit back relax and have a nice convo. It's a very laid back environment. The espresso martini was awesome!
