Aman New York Reviews from The Last Year
Don't deserve the AMAN brand!
Pros: - Very strategic location with convenient walking distance to the central park, tiffany & co, Moma, etc - Gorgeous historic building - Arguably the best soundproofing in any high-end hotel we ever stayed at. This is something that all other high-end hotel brands never think through properly - Generous size of room which basically justifies the high nightly price if we see it purely from room size point of view - Convenient bathroom with warm floor and flawless ergonomics - The food at Arva was nice and the staff here are the best group of staff in the entire hotel area - The Jazz club is hosted by some of the best jazz club musicians we've ever seen Cons: - Me and my friends stayed at so many other Amans in the past 20 years. In Amanjiwo and Amandari (probably still the best of all Amans in terms of service), Amanjena, Amanyangyung, Amanoi, Amangani, Amanbagh, Amanpuri, Aman Canal Grande (also top service here), Aman Sveti, Amangalla, Aman Tokyo, Le Melezin, etc. And for the very fist time we see an Aman that takes aesthetic cues not from its surrounding location. Instead of accepting its art deco and gilded era history, this Aman New York is highlighting everything Japan, which makes it feels like Aman Tokyo in New York instead of Aman New York - The entire hotel interior looks fantastic but we really felt like it's an expensive version of Rosewood, Four Seasons, or Regent, but the Aman feeling is not there at all. Every single details are of high quality and looks expensive, but it didn't really invite us to touch and use it because it looks like expensive contemporary museum stuff and doesn't radiate the historical and majestic aura of the Crown building - We were told that the hotel was busy with higher occupancy, and we can definitely see it, but we and some other hotel guests felt like we were treated like a 2nd class Aman guests. The staff spent most of their attention attending outside guests, which I assume, are the new Aman club members. In the old days of Aman, every single guest was a member and was a VIP. Aman itself was an elite club without creating a membership club! The service at the Garden terrace was literally non existent unless you really walk around the beautiful space to find the staff to really talk and offer you at least the menu - The pool area could be more beautiful if they use dark brown tile or something darker like in Amanpuri or Aman Tokyo, but that is not a very bad thing. The bad thing was the fact that the pool area felt like a ghost town with no staff. As far as I can remember, Aman means peace, not empty - The pool is part of a vast wellness facilities but we didn't bother trying the spa or any wellness treatment because the pool situation really switched off our interest - The phone's wait / hold music was of a church or monastery which sounds a bit intimidating and out of place. Better use a cool jazz sound from Miles davis or anything that really reflects New York - The food at Anama was very basic and uninspiring Conclusion: - Aman New York is a physically beautiful hotel but it offers zero sense of place (except the Jazz Club). One sentence to describe Aman New York is "an expensive version of Edition with inverted colour (white/bright to dark)" - While the price is justifiable from room size perspective, from overall service and brand promise, it is way above the roof - The service is really nothing compared to the Peninsula or even FS downtown - Aman New York miserably failed to match the success of Aman Tokyo in offering and showacsing the best of the destination / location. But even Aman Tokyo is not a very good Aman anyway as they almost never greet its guests by name (unlike in any other Amans worldwide)
Not up to par
Think: Glorified W hotel. I had high expectations given the Aman brand and particularly the hype around this New York outpost. Unfortunately the experience fell very short. The lobby and decor are nice, subtle and sexy. Quite dark. Unfortunately we arrived after a red-eye to an empty lobby — no one to send us up to the 14th floor check-in. Waited 10 min and no one know what to do until the bellman finally escorted us up. Not a great start The decor in the room was nice, again minimalist and dark, but the faux pines were tacky especially given this price point. Why not just use a few sprigs of greenery which would be cost effective and much nicer? Service was mixed — a wonderful woman at reception one day, a clueless and curt man the other. Spa and pool area was unattended and I had to hunt someone down for a robe. Bar staff was nice though moving a lot of furniture when we were there at 9pm, felt like they were already closing shop. Room delivery person was a sweet young lady one day, the best was a man who stared at me in an almost antagonistic manner. And yes I topped 20% on top of the $12 room service charge, so my açaí bowl and withered berries (QC not good) cost $67. The worst was on our second night the air conditioning made a horrible metal clacking noise that only stopped 30 min after I turned off the AC, which resulted in it being 82 degrees by morning. All in all, not up to the Aman reputation. They can do a lot better especially at this price point!

A Night of Rhythmic Bliss and Culinary Delights Aman Jazz
A Night of Rhythmic Bliss and Culinary Delights Aman Jazz Club is a destination that masterfully intertwines the soulful essence of music with the luxurious comfort of top-tier dining. Our recent visit, graced by the mesmerizing performance of Melaner, left us eagerly anticipating our next night out here. Melaner's talent was nothing short of electrifying. Performing two sets, she had the entire club swaying and dancing in unison - a rare sight that spoke volumes of her magnetic charm and skill. The club's atmosphere, sexy and vibrant, matched the energy of her performance, creating a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening. The culinary experience at Aman Jazz Club is akin to its musical offerings - exceptional and refined. While the cocktails and mocktails come with a hefty price tag, they are standard for the Aman brand and are worth every penny. Each drink was a concoction of creativity and taste, delighting us with every sip. The food was a parade of mouth-watering dishes. The waffles and wagyu were so tender and flavorful they seemed to melt in our mouths. The truffle grilled cheese was a standout; its taste so divine, I'm now on a mission to recreate it at home. However, the mezze platter was a bit of a letdown. The dips and sauces lacked variety and vibrancy, making it the only mediocre point in an otherwise stellar menu. Surprisingly, the complimentary olives and chips outshone this dish, packing more flavor and texture. In sum, Aman Jazz Club is more than just a venue; it's an experience - a harmonious blend of sensational music, exquisite food, and an ambiance that resonates with the rhythms of joy and sophistication. We're already planning our next visit, looking forward to another evening of top-notch entertainment and culinary excellence.
Poor customer service
Don't waste your money. I usually stay at the Rosewood but wanted to try something new. The only thing this hotel has going is the décor. The service was absolutely terrible. When I arrived, they only had a room with two twin beds, they told me once I checked in that it wasn't a problem that they can combine the beds and make it a king which I agreed. They told us it would be done once we got back from dinner, it was never done. We order room service and the lady got my order completely wrong, I ordered a hamburger and told her no cheese twice and it came with cheese. They went to redo it and when they came back they tried to charge me for a cheeseburger which was $8 more. Also, when you call the front desk it takes them 10 minutes to answer the phone, completely frustrating. When I expressed my concerns at checkout they said someone from the experience department would reach out to me, they never did. Do yourself a favor, stay at a Rosewood property, excellent service at half the price.
aman nyc - not ready for their close up
had reservations - had to cancel - this is important - aman nyc and perhaps aman - is new $ - def not old money - its the new instagram - social media thing - they charge 99% up front - so costs are insane upfront - i am still currently waiting for a full refund - was told full refund upon 48/72 hour cancel - and now waiting - big issue today is finding competent help - i did reach out to mr oliveire - new gm - he is unreachable - cares not to be bothered - i get that - they want $500 pp for the omakase - to be paid upfront - zero refunds - can spend $20k on all the upfront options - we did opt for og nyc old money hotel - the kind they take your name and reservation is set - no deposit - and sure the new rate at old money hotel is higher - but service guranteed - we did speak to at hotel aman nyc - over 20 different people - just zero accountability - was phone transfered too many times too mention - the hold music is hauntingly eery - perhaps tapist monks chanting ??? overall the experience compared to any other nyc or rosewood / four seasons / mandarin oriental / belmond / just not there - obvious they have stuff to work out - and i get that - i am sure if one needs to be in aman nyc - to take photos - pay 1k for sushi - upfront - no refunds - and be transfered over and over and over again i get that - just if perhaps you older than 35 - not an influencer - actually want someone anyone to answer a phone call - over hearing that the sound system in the jazz club which hotel guests can enter - but still pay $50- per person - the sound system is one of two in nyc - yet you might need to be on telephone hold - chanting monks - for a good hour or so - just a frustrating experience - no one was rude or disrespectful in anyway - i get that people are hard to find - just if you want old world - top level service - not have to pay for everything upfront - then this might not be the place for you....i would have like to spoken to mr oliveire - he did run the mark nyc hotel which was a top level hotel - yet - i get that they busy and stuff -
First time at an Aman property - Impressive
My husband took me to NYC as a surprise trip for our 2 year anniversary. He secretly booked 2 nights at this hotel while telling me we’re staying the entire 5 nights at another property. First impression of this property is definitely the location, absolute prime. Bergdorf Goodman right across the street, Central Park, Apple Store, plaza hotel within minutes of walk, not to mention 5th and Madison Avenue. The property has an overall dim moody ambience, a sense of dark luxury. The lobby area features a high ceiling, including all rooms I assume which is something I enjoy. The room was simply stunning, has a fire place, lounger by the window, very comfortable king size bed, and a bathroom with Japanese style dividers, very shoji blinds like, but with the hotel’s modern take. The bathroom has a very decent size tub, luxurious bath amenities. The only thing with the shower is that due to the design of the floor, it made it quite difficult to keep water inside to the drain, most times we find that water would leak out of the shower area. We also noticed the lack of shower head settings, the default one, though with strong pressure, was a bit rough on my skin, hence made my shower not the most relaxing and enjoyable. Breakfast was nice but standard, food offerings and the quality were not any more exceptional than other highly rated breakfast cafes outside. I noticed a relatively high staff to customer ratio, not sure whether it is them being generously staffed in general, or it was just a quieter time during our visit. Either way, It’s always a better experience in my opinion when they are readily available for you, with the attentive level being higher. Everyone we came across was friendly and hospitable, gentlemen by the door remembered us by name and always greeted us when we were going in and out. They also have this house car service that takes you from the hotel to a destination within their predetermined mile range. This came in very handy when we needed to go from Aman to another hotel upon check out. This is one expensive hotel for sure, even more so since it’s a city hotel, and not a resort, so it was definitely a splurge. However, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Aman New York, and we look forward to checking out their other properties within the states and also globally.
A friend of mine had connections and got us in here for her
A friend of mine had connections and got us in here for her bday lunch. It was a bit chilly, but we wanted to sit outside. The food, my oh my was it delicious! I got a langostine pasta and at this time, I lost a good amount of weight due to work stress and I didn't have an appetite for anything. So when I say something was ridiculously delicious, it was. A linguine pasta with langostine in a buttery tomato sauce. My lord, worth every penny. I got this one drink that literally had a rose in it. My ex was awful at giving me flowers (even on vday) so this was very needed! My gf and her sister wanted to split their meal because they had three other places to have lunch/dinner and etc. They plated their meal separately and it was just so thoughtful. The service, the ppl, how the food was plated, you can tell this place puts a lot of thought into everything. It's been a while I've been to a place where I was constantly impressed. 100% would go here again and pay whatever they need me to! Anyone down to join me?
I have stayed at a few Aman properties.
The Aman New York did not disappoint. Checkin is seamless All staff are professional and friendly. The rooms are spacious at approximately 1,200 square feet My favorite feature is the tablet technology with respect to lighting, television, and room service. The bathroom is sheer perfection with the shower being the best I have ever experienced in a hotel. wow, just wow. Honorable mention to the wonderful bathtub. The room set up is comfortable and relaxing. There is also a decent sized wardrobe. The rooms are just gorgeous. The hotel is located on 57th street across from the wonderful Bergdorf Goodman. I shall be returning to the Aman New York.
Beautiful property with service issues
I have been a hotel guest at Aman twice in the past two months. The hotel is stunning and understated at once. The décor and mood are soothing and details are attended to as expected in a hotel of this caliber. After two stays I have a few notes that would make the guest experience even more superb. We booked our stays using Amex Platinum (Fine Hotels + Resorts) which guarantees a 4pm late checkout amongst other perks. These were not reviewed nor discussed with us at our first stay. We were surprised by a phone call at noon on checkout day asking if we needed assistance with our luggage. The Amex perks had not been applied. To Aman’s credit, during our second stay, they reviewed these perks specifically and adhered to them. We experienced the omakase at Nama which was fabulous. We wished there was a sake pairing, but none is offered. The iPad in the room doesn’t display the menus at Nama or Arva nor does it allow for reservations to be made from the device. This would be useful. The brunch/lunch menu at Arva was hit or miss and the menu had strong breakfast or dinner-ish options but skips over good lunch options (wraps, salads, sandwiches) I had a fabulous spa treatment. However, once changing into a robe and leaving the ladies’ locker room, usually there is a relaxation area to wait for your therapist to take you to the treatment room. There is not a dedicated area for this, I could either wait in the sauna/steam room, in nice seating outside the locker room in the hallway, or inside the pool area. Then my therapist had to walk us downstairs to the treatment rooms. I’d much prefer to go to a pre-treatment area near the treatment rooms to relax with some hot tea. For some reason we had issues during both stays getting items delivered to the room. During our first stay, we were met in our room by our butler, who asked how we take our coffee in the morning (there is a Nespresso in the room and sugar). I said milk, which wasn’t brought. We went out for the evening and forgot. I called again in the morning for milk, and after about 30 minutes I just had black coffee. The milk was never delivered. During our first and second stay, I called for a bucket of ice since we’d brought our own bottle of scotch. The first stay I had to call twice. On the first night of our second stay I had to call 3 times over an hour and a half before the ice was delivered. On the second night, I called and asked for ice again, but after 45 minutes it hadn’t arrived. My husband got frustrated and went looking for an ice machine (about 11pm). He saw a staff member and explained the problem, the staff member was very concerned and we had a bucket of ice delivered in about 5 minutes. Of note, upon our arrival the second stay I asked the butler for milk and it was delivered very promptly. The takeaway here is there is there seems to be a defect in the communication/execution process for these small but meaningful requests. When we checked in for stay 2 we noticed the room was cold and used the IPad to adjust it to 70 degrees. After dinner we came back and it was still cold, however we went to bed. In the morning we addressed the concern with maintenance who promptly troubleshooted the issue. The temperature control was locked to 60 degrees due to a prior guest's request. We received the wrong room on our second stay. We booked the 56th street Premier Suite for the floor to ceiling windows and different layout, however after our stay we realized our room was a Sanctuary Suite facing 57th, which was smaller and lacked the floor plan we were expecting. None of these should deter any sane person from staying at Aman, these observations are constructive feedback to an otherwise outstanding property. Update 8/24 we received our folio after 5 days (!) and we were charged for an open bottle of whiskey, which was open when we arrived. We brought to the attention of both the staff who came to restock the minibar and the front desk during our stay. This is annoying. The service is broadly good but details are lost.
Super stay
Excellent service. Great food and very informed well trained team. Fabulous suites with sustainable guest amenities. Great location to relax. The wellness spa allows full relation and very welcoming. Pre book in advance for your treatments.
It's a hotel.
Aman has built a reputation of managing hotels that are destinations in their own right. The Aman New York is a hotel. A very good hotel, but also the most expensive in the city. The rooms are spacious and everything is new, which is nice while it lasts. Service is friendly and attentive, and the breakfast is good but not great. The best thing is the open terrace, where you can have breakfast or a drink before going out for dinner. It makes a difference in New York. All in all, is it a very different experience than staying at the Peninsula or Park Hyatt, for example? Probably not. Worth the price premium? Probably not. Is it a very good hotel worth staying at least once? Yes.
When you walk through the doors of the Aman, you are
When you walk through the doors of the Aman, you are leaving the bustling streets of New York and enter a serene, zen world. New York's newest luxury hotel, it is a world apart.
