Very good.
We shared 10 plates between 4 of us and that was perfect.A nice variety of food and flavors all nicely prepared and presented.A vey sociable meal where food can be shared at a pace that allows plenty of time to talk and interact.Pretty loud.No good if you have limited time.

This is a cozy restaurant with good food and even better staff! I met with a friend for dinner after work and would go back in a heart beat! The only comment would be that it was cold at the restaurant. The fire place did not emit enough heat for NYC cold winter night.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, excellent service.
My boyfriend and I sat at the bar around 5:30 on a Friday night and watched the entire restaurant fill! Left very full and happy! Will definitely be back

Best Spanish wine list in the tri state area and the food is always right on par. Very accommodating with reservations as well
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely a bit pricey but a really solid tapas option
Definitely a bit pricey but a really solid tapas option with great execution on basically every dish. Only misses were the paella and the trumpet mushrooms, the former lacked the soccarat and and aromatics I want from a true paella and the latter just didn't really end up tasting of much interesting. Basically everything else was a great hit though, special shout outs go to the wagyu tartare, the lamb meatballs, and the shockingly good impossible kofta.
Be the first to ReplyTheir sangria is strong and delicious.
The interior is beautiful. We sat on the second floor overlooking the restaurant! My Yelp reservation somehow didn't go through tho!! But they were able to seat us. It was empty when we got there at 730 but by 845 the restaurant was buzzing! Enjoyed the fried goat cheese, chicken shawarma was perfect, we did a pasta with shrimp oil (forgot the name) and it was fabulous. The octopus, that I looked forward to the most was disappointing. Tasted fishy, and was cooked in the same ingredients/presentation as the chicken shawarma that I enjoyed so much. Service was sporadic? I feel like we had to manually flag down someone every time we needed something (for ex: drinks, more food, the check). I'd still go back!
Be the first to ReplyThe service was ok.
The food came out too quick and we couldn't fit all the food on the table at one point. Good ambiance. Food was very disappointing. Server and hosts were pleasant but other then that don't have any other positives to say. Maybe a bad night but wouldn't plan on going back.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant is beautiful inside.
The food was decent but overpriced. Service was mediocre. Won't be going there again.

This place used to be my go-to spot in its heyday, and it pains me to say this - but it ain't what it used to be. Visited for the first time in a few years, ambiance is still beautiful, but everything else has fallen by the wayside. Service was painfully slow / inattentive (and snarky at times), even towards the end of our meal when the restaurant was half empty. We had to flag bus boys down multiple times. Our drinks took a solid 15-20 min after ordering to get them - we were told bc only 1 bartender. 1! For an entire restaurant on a Saturday night! Poor girl :(The menu itself is much smaller and MUCH more expensive than it used to be. Like prices are doubled, while quality is so-so at best. Menus are on cell phones now, definitely miss the paper placemat menus because at a tapas place, where it's suggested you order in "rounds" , your party ends up spending the entire time nose down in their phones scrolling the menu. Just cheapens the experience. Plates / food are now "pretty good" - for reference they used to be outstanding , you could tell they used to have pride in their dishes. (To be fair the Brussels sprouts are still outstanding :) And no background music at all. Just a weird vibe for a place that used to feel like the "it" place to eat in the village. Now it feels like a cash grab. I know all restaurants are suffering post pandemic but I think some easy fixes related to atmosphere and service would make a big difference. Maybe I'll eat there again one day and update this review to 5 stars but I'm not holding out too much hope.

Closed out 2022 with an early dinner at Alta - can't go wrong with that! The food was as delicious as ever and the service remains very attentive and fast. The caulilini with it's tangy dressing was particularly good! For a more quiet and intimate atmosphere, come early & ask to be seated in the small room upstairs overlooking 10th St.
Be the first to ReplyReally amazing food.
Huge restaurant. The prices on Yelp were not accurate (probably pre-Covid) but the food and ambience were great. The sommelier will recommend a lovely wine for your dinner as well. Overall, we had a wonderful New Years Eve experience in a classy, unique, romantic restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyCame in for dinner.
The ambience was cute- kind of rustic, modern barn style. We sat upstairs, seating around an open ceiling- very calm and peaceful energy-the waitress was very kind and patient with us. We tried the Brussel sprouts, gnocchi, and sea bass. My favorite menu items were the brussel sprouts and gnocchi. Portions a bit on the small side- so good if you come to try different menu items. The gnocchi reminded me of a Campbell tomato soup situation with fluffy homemade pasta. The sea bass was my least favorite- not a lot of flavor and chewy. I would come back for apps and pasta.

For those of us who love farm to table restaurants with a Mediterranean spin, this is a MUST. We snacked on Marcona almonds and olives with delicious cocktails to start, proceeded with brussel sprouts and cauliflower, then on to pasta, chicken shawarma and hanger steak! Every dish was better than the next! This will be a repeat visit for sure.

Alta was pretty solid! NYC service was a hoot at this place, the food was presentable and delicious, but my only issue was that the servers' runner was a bit new and she forgot one of our drinks which caused for a long delay in our ability to toast our celebration . The scallops, the steak and the gnocchi were all recommended!
Be the first to ReplyWent for a birthday.
Alta printed a special menu for the celebration which was really fun. They do soemthing called the big shebang where you can order one of everything which was fun to try with a large group. Personally loved the lamb Tajinnn and their version of a spicy margarita.
Be the first to ReplyTo start off with a compliment, I will say the cocktails
To start off with a compliment, I will say the cocktails and food were delicious! The service was the reason for this review. I think we might have been the four top James B's review was referring to. I have never left a negative yelp review, but i came here last night with 3 friends and had a disappointing experience. Our reservation was at 7 and soon after we were all seated we put in our drink orders. 35 minutes later and there was no sign of our drinks or our waitress. One of my friends brought this to a bar back's attention and soon after another waiter came by to take our drink orders again- No apologies or explanation and almost made US feel bad for inquiring about our drinks. Our drinks finally come and we ordered a couple of tapas (which were all great). Waiter #2 explains that it's best to order a few tapas at a time. Great. He comes to visit us once more and we put a couple of more tapas in. Those tapas come, and by then our drinks are empty. No sign of waiter. We finish those tapas, are talking about ordering one or two more, REALLYYY would love another round of drinks. No sign of waiter. Finally, we managed to flag down our original waitress and ask her for another round of drinks and the bill (we are over getting another 30 dollar tapa at this point). Mistakes happen and restaurants are overwhelmed right now which I understand and feel for. But an apology and acknowledgment goes along way, and the attitude especially from waiter 2 just felt really arrogant and rude. 3 hours, two drinks, 6 small plates, and our waiter(a) maybe stopped at our table 3 times total. Definitely put a slight damper on what was supposed to be a fun girls night.
Be the first to ReplyWhere to begin.
We had reservation for 7 and arrived at 7 and were immediately seated. Great! 15 minutes later a server finally arrives to take our drink. Yay! My girlfriend ordered a Moscow mule and I a dirty martini. A bar back came with our drinks and my girlfriends drink had mezcal on it. There was a language barrier with the waitress so that's fine. We then told the bar-back that it was supposed to be a Moscow mule. He leaves and then a different man shows up in a blue button down saying "Mezcal Mule". Again, now we wanted a Moscow mule. Cue 25 more minutes go by we finally get her drink. It's not 7:50 and it took 50 minutes to get our first drink and cheers. My dirty martini tasted like 3 parts olive juice to 1 part vodka. No apologies for how late the drink came. No apologies for the mistake of the drinks. They acted like this was all completely fine. Whoever the man in the blue shirt was, assuming they were the manager, should have read the room that this was severely disappointing and if not apologize at least comp a drink. There was a 4 top right next to us who was also constantly looking around for a server but none to be found. We had 3 servers that night ask us the same questions. What would you like to drink, eat etc. no organization. We didn't bother to get food because the manager in the blue shirt said the steak that's $32 is the size of a skewer. And when we asked how many ounces he didn't even know how to answer this question and kept just showing us with his hands. What a pitiful experience. Would never recommend anyone to go here.

Sorry to leave an awful review but this was a major disappointment! Went here last night for dinner and everything from the food to the service to the drinks was awful. While the food tasted moderately OK, the portions were ridiculous. $20 a plate for literally an ounce of food. We spent almost $600 and left starving. Also the drinks were poured like a half a glass. Waiter had a horrible attitude the entire night and our table was basically left dirty most of the meal. I used to work in the restaurant business so I totally get how things go but the place was not even busy. Even if you are super busy, not even a heads up that he was coming our way or give us the eyes that he will get to us shortly. Not to mention, didn't even say thank you at the end. Dropped the check, walked away with no eye contact. Horrifying. Not sure why this place gets a good rap but I was severely disappointed all around and would not return.

Loved this place! Came here for date night and it is the perfect spot. The ambience is very romantic and cozy and a great place to go on a date or just have great conversation. We ordered sangrias and they were good but as a warning they are very strong lol. The food was excellent as well. I enjoyed everything we ordered- we got the fried goat cheese balls, brussel sprouts, paella, hanger steak, wagyu steak and the chicken shawarma skewer. I normally don't order brussel sprouts at a restaurant but I'm so glad we did here- they were AMAZING perfectly crispy and topped well with the crème fraiche. My other favorite was the hanger steak which was perfectly prepared medium rare. The paella was my third favorite, the rice was a perfect texture with great seasonings in a beautiful broth topped with seafood and chorizo. If you come here I highly recommend getting those 3 do not miss out!
Be the first to ReplyThis place thinks that young people won't order a lot or
This place thinks that young people won't order a lot or tip well and therefore provides poor service to that clientele making it a self fulfilling prophecy. They took forever to take our orders (ended up being there 3 hours) and never checked in if we needed anything. Brought our deserts but didn't bring us new forks or spoons to eat it with. Never cleared our plates so we were eating desert with forks which had been used in meat dishes and our dirty plates still in front of us. Sommelier is pretentious and superior. Food is "preprepared" which doesn't allow for any dietary changes. Despite its being preprepared it is somehow still insanely expensive. We had one person at our party who was vegan and they didn't try to accommodate her in the slightest. The place is pretty but so are a lot of places. Will not be returning. They printed happy birthday on the menu for our table which was nice, but the only decent bit of service we had and of course that was before we arrived and they realized we were a young party. This place calls itself a tapas restaurant. You'd think for being so pretentious they'd know that the definition of tapas is small Spanish dishes, but there was only one Spanish dish on the menu. The dishes were small though alright. We did not expect this place to serve Spanish food because we saw the menu beforehand, however, the service at classic Spanish restaurants is always friendly and open and accommodating; things they were not at this restaurant. It makes me upset that they would provide such horrible service under the guise of tapas when real tapas places are the exact opposite. Do better. Train your staff to not be jerks, and on a birthday no less.
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem! Very cozy and warm feeling when you walk in.
Definitely sit on the top floor - it's decorated beautifully and you get to look out over the restaurant. Food was great. They are definitely tapas-sized portions though, so don't come here if you are starving. We got the fried goat cheese, bacon wrapped dates, trout fritters for starters. Then we got the octopus, wagyu tartare, ricotta gnocchi. Gnocchi was phenomenal and melted in your mouth. Sauce was great. Wagyu tartare was also very good and had almost a citrus taste. The only thing that fell a bit flat was the octopus- wasn't crispy enough and the sauce/hummus was just mush. Waiter was very nice. Maybe a tiny bit slow, but we weren't in a rush. I'd love to come back here and try all the other things we didn't get!

Fantastic small plates and wonderful service.

"Old tapas standby"Alta has been in this spot for as long as I can remember. It's morphed from purely Spanish to more small plates but retains core Spanish dishes. This is a reliably solidly option in the West Village for a great dining experience. What to celebrate- Stubbing decor, and I mean that! With a two floor, balcony over looking the dining room. Definitely sit on the top floor!- Beautiful lightings with wrought iron chandeliers- Romantic- Solid good that is mostly consistent - Unique takes in traditional tapas - Lots of options to make everyone happy What's not so great- Service can be a bit slow- Manager has a bit of an attitude and will not seat you until your whole party is there. I hate this!
Be the first to ReplyThe place's service is way below average.
The restaurant is clearly understaffed, waited forever to be able to speak with the waiter. The rookie waiters can't get the order right, can't remember which table ordered what. Food is okay but extremely small portion, wine list is very limited, cocktails are like pre batched fruit punch. Not a tapa place you'd expect, it's just another "fusion" place for you to waste money and time
Be the first to ReplyGreat I'm beyond delicious food.
This is great place to bring people who are visiting from out of town. It has a lot of unique elements that make it feel special to something you would only find in NYC.
