Left hungry. So disappointed.
Met friends there on a Friday night. Had heard good things for a while and wanted to go so paying $5 to park for over an hour did not seem bad. At 98 degrees we chose to eat inside. That was not a good decision. There is nothing to absorb the sound and with lots of people, even turning down the music (which was offered) wouldnโt solve the problem. I could not hear the server until she was nice enough to stand next to me. I could not hear my husband or friends even tho they were next to me. I made every adjustment on my hearing aids, even taking them out. Between the loud noise, struggle to hear and frustration to hear, I got a headache. I gave up without ordering and will not return, unless I hear the owner has put in fabric to absorb sound-curtains, wall hangings, chair covers.

I came here with three friends for brunch on a Saturday. Without calling ahead, we had to wait at least 45 minutes for a table. So if you decide to visit, make sure to reserve your table ahead of time on their website. This bistro offers authentic French staples. I ordered the croque salmon, which had lots of salmon, capers, parsley, and lemon. It came with a side salad that had a tasty lemon vinaigrette dressing. It is advisable to get to Alpin early, especially on the brunch days, as some members of my party had to keep being informed by our waitress that the kitchen had run out of some ingredient of the dish they ordered. Overall, Alpin is a unique dining experience in Gainesville. Stop by take a step outside the swamp and into this French bistro.
Be the first to ReplyQuaint European Bistro in the heart of Gainsville. Had dinner with my daughter and really enjoyed the evening.
It is is mostly appetizers, Croque-Monsieurs but we ordered the Escargot, Chorizo with onions and apples and the Quiche. It isnโt a large menu but I really enjoyed the food. The atmosphere is lovely. I think it would be a good Ladies night out. Next time I visit my kids, we all said we wanted to experience the Saturday brunch.

This is one of the few places that you feel transported outside of gainesville to enjoy your cuisine and drinks. The ambience is welcoming, the staff are all very professional and the prices are good too. Every step if the way they are on point ๐

After a long wait, our 2nd course (which we ordered some time after we ordered our 1st course), came BEFORE our 1st course. Drinks, several rounds, also not timely. Our dessert, which we specifically ordered complimentary drinks for, did not show up until AFTER our dessert was long gone. Having our dishes cleared, also took a long time. Food was very average. Prices actually excellent! I don't recommend though.

Pretty perfect cocktail, excellent soup, gorgeous salad. A really pleasant experience with terrific service and unpretentious atmosphere.

Poor service beyond belief. Took 15 mins to have a waitress to the table. Food not properly cooked. Bad

My wife and I have been wanting to go there because of the rave reviews here and an on Yelp! I thought I'd take her on Valentine's Day, but they're closed Sundays and Mondays, so we went last night (Tuesday). Our expectations were high and we were hungry. We are familiar with Tapas, including having visited Spain. The appearance of the place is quite sparse, spartan, and drab looking. That should have tipped us off! The cold steel chairs are uncomfortable. We were seated at a very small, rickety table in the back. The specials whiteboard advertised a wine and chucouterie (sp?) board for two, choice of "Land" or "Sea." We ordered the "Land" and red wine. They brought us a small carafe of wine and two tiny glasses. Then, a while later, they brought the food. It had a sliver of smoked salmon, a single anchovy, some capers and olives, and 3 small slices of French bread. It was not what we ordered. They had bought us the "Sea" instead of the "Land." The lady reluctantly took it back. About 10 minutes later a man brought us the "Land." Boy, were we disappointed! It was laughable! Four thin slices of chorizo (including an end piece), two skinny slivers of Manchego, a pad of sage butter, a thimble of peanuts (yes, PEANUTS!), and three small slices of French bread! For two hungry people! We just couldn't believe they would serve that to anyone! We searched the menu for something appetizing and substantial, but all they had were sandwiches (which they mislabel as "croquettes,") and quiche, and turnip soup (who eats that?!). After eating those meager morsels we asked for the check, left and looked for a restaurant where we could actually order a decent meal. We will not return to Alpin. I'm so glad they weren't open for Valentine's Day! Hopefully, someone will open a decent tapas restaurant in Gainesville some day.

Met a friend at Alpin tonight. The service was good and the food quite tasty. There happened to be a meet up there for a group/company, which made it quite loud inside. The jazz was enjoyable, but the volume of people at the group table (with the meet up) was regrettably noticeable. We split a cheese plate, a savory tart of the day, and two desserts. All were fresh and delicious. The blue cheese was especially scrumptious. The inside is inviting and there are daily specials worth trying. If you haven't been in yet, you definitely should give it a try. For French cider, a tart with small side salad, and a chocolate mousse the bill ran around $30.

We were there with a large group. Everything was very good. The quiche was tasty and a large portion. Appetizers were tasty and presentation was great. Next time I will try the beer selection. No one went home hungry.

My wife and I have been here twice, and we absolutely loved everything we've ordered so far. From drinks through desserts and everything in between, the menu is unique in Gainesville and they do a great job bringing it to life. Service can be a little slow, but it's thoughtful and worth being patient. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and really feels like a European bistro. We will definitely be going back again!
