Birthday party of 20 for the chef's tasting menu please! Parked on the street for free at 7pm on a Sunday. Our party was greeted right away and situated in a private dining room with assigned seating so that the servers could keep track of everyone's allergies and preferences. They graciously poured the champagne we brought and made sure our glasses were always full. All of the dishes were beautifully presented and had so many different textures and unique flavors and ingredients.Favorite dish: Kaluga caviar with beef tartare and black truffle atop the Hokkaido milk bread. EXQUISITE!! So tasty. I could've just eaten 23 of those and called it a day. Other dishes on the menu: - hamachi sashimi, very light and fresh tasting (nothing fishy going on here!) not sure if I really liked the weird bland shrimp chip thing. Might be there to add texture? - Hokkaido diver scallop was ok. Polenta was more of a deconstructed thing, was kind of looking for the creamy goodness that I'm use to. Nice piece of scallop though. - summer truffle udon noodles, loved the texture of the noodles! Sauce was a little on the salty side and truffle flavor wasn't too strong. White foam was.. interesting - A5 Miyazaki ribeye - first time trying A5 Wagyu and now I'll find it difficult to go back to regular ribeye. I don't even remember the doneness but I don't think it mattered bec the meat just melted in my mouth and was delicious. - flourless chocolate cake was surprisingly super decadent and was paired nicely with the raspberry sorbetDrinks: aside from the champagne we brought, I ordered the shoeblack plant stained boots ($18). Could not order it by name for the life of me so just said the one with the bourbon and the boots and the hibiscus. Very unique tasting and refreshing! All in all enjoyable experience. Excellent service and ambiance. $240 for a meal is a little steep but when you factor in the exclusive menu items (which don't seem to be offered on the regular dinner menu) it was cool for a one-time experience. You should also expect the serving sizes to be.. tasting sized. Might wait for the Dine LA menu for part 2 if my beloved Kaluga caviar is offered with that one. Or come back just for good ole steak and hamachi shots.
