Great ambience and service; Wonderful food!
The restaurant was warm and welcoming from the time we entered. We were welcomed hospitably and assigned an excellent waiter. Eddie was instructive without being condescending, noting that Alexander's was a "non-traditional" steakhouse, as indeed it is! The food was beautifully arranged and so delicious that it is difficult to pick out a favorite. Some standouts were the "French toast" brioche topped with wagyu steak and uni, the wonderful assortment of rolls and spreads, the crispy lop cheong and tobiko fried rice (to which we added dungeness crab and could be a meal in itself). There was even a surprise at the end of the meal. I would recommend this restaurant highly, and can't wait to go back again.

One word review: Jayse. What an incredible experience for a birthday dinner. His attention to detail and service was world class. He had superb knowledge about every aspect of the restaurant, from its history to the ingredients on the menu. His recommendations were tailor made for every level of restaurant-goer, from Novice to Somellier status. His warm personality, honesty, and humor made the night really memorable. It felt like he was the perfect representation of how much thoughtfulness and preparation goes into the meal. And speaking of the meal... I thought the presentation, flavor combinations, and quality on the chef's tasting menu were incredible. Salute to Executive Chef Florent Courriol. If you want dinner, go to CPKs next door. If you want a life altering, mind bending, taste of dining heaven... go to Alexander's Steakhouse.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Food, Obscene Prices, need to discourage children and have a dress code
We promised ourselves we would not go here again after a bad experience several years ago. With children running around and one actually did a belly flop on our booth and grabbed my coat. When I told him to sit down and shut up, his parents wanted to fight us. Fast forward, our friends invited us to go there, so we gave it another chance. The are a bit officious at the front desk, but after we joked around with them, they lightened up. My friends brought a bottle of wine to go with steak, and the corkage is $50.00. Their wine is extremely over priced, so you can't win. The bread and three flavors of butter is excellent. We ordered the Charcuterie plate which had excellent presentation, all hand made ingredients, but was $50.00. A table near us had a couple of loud kids, but mercifully left shortly after we were seated. My husband and I shared one of the "Large Format" steaks at $140.00. Want sides, that is extra. The steak and side we chose was done perfectly and one of the best ones I have ever had. We even had enough left over to take home. When we were leaving a family came in wearing sweats/athletic wear AND had kids. This restaurant would be a nice special occasion venue, but when you are paying that much money you don't want to hear someone's squalling brat. They should take a page from the Old Taylor's Steakhouse in La Canada, if you came in with kids, or dressed like a slob, you got the booth next to the bathroom. As much as I like the food, we probably won't be back.

Dinner was fantastic, especially during the pandemic. It was 114* in Pasadena, but the outdoor seating was wonderful- beautiful linens, leather chairs and a fountain in the background. The bread basket and dessert were complimentary, the steaks, mac & cheese, and salad outstanding. It’s expensive, but the service and food were so worth it, especially in the heat!

Mary, Hotess, was excellet; seated us right away. Prime Rib was fantastic, Miso Souffle was out of this world. Outdoor seating was more than adequate to adhere to Co Vid 19 social distancing. Waiter was very helpful and maintained appropriate distance. The entire evening was exceptional. Would definitely go again.
Be the first to ReplyGREAT FOOD DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC
Decided to give Alexander's a try for take out during the covid stay at home order. What a surprise. Exceptional food especially considering it was take out. Expensive yes, but the quality is worth the price. Great deal is their 3 course meal for 4 for $215.
More than enough food for 2 meals for 3 or 4 people. Will definitely to back.
Get ready for an experience.
Get ready for an experience. From the impeccable serving staff to the exceptional food. I have to say they are impressive. The only down side is dig out the savings, this excellence will cost you. Take someone special or someone you want to impress
Be the first to ReplyMinus one star for arrogance
Excellent food, eccentric service, posh pricing. After spending $300 on two steaks, two glasses of wine and one espresso, we paid full price on "validated" parking because we exceeded 90 minutes enjoying our meal. I went back to suggest they reconsider their validation policy. The on-site manager dismissed my suggestion rather rudely. I left in astonishment. Does arrogance have to be the price for excellence?

This is one of the best steak restaurants in all of LA county, I am glad it is here in Pasadena. You will have multiple choices in steaks, not just In the cut but all so the way the meat has been aged, the length of time it has been aged. They have five different types of Wagyu beef from Japan. We went with a Kansas City strip dry aged steak. It was wonderful. The service was excellent. This was a birthday dinner and they really made us feel special. Hope you enjoy your evening as much as we did.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent but Pricey Steakhouse
Steakhouses in general are expensive (i.e. Mastro's, Cut, Wolfgang's etc) but Alexander's is even more so. But having said that (and that is it's one downside) we had a marvelous meal there. Great appetizers, sides and, of course, a superb selection of steaks. Be prepared for a "dining experience" though as our meal lasted about 3 hours--if you're trying to get "in and out" this is not the restaurant for you. Bottom line is we all thought the food and wine were great but be prepared for a hefty check.
