Alexander's Steakhouse Pasadena Reviews from The Last Year
On a Monday night I recently visited Alexander's Steakhouse
On a Monday night I recently visited Alexander's Steakhouse in Pasadena with a group of girlfriends, and I can confidently say it was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service. The ambiance was elegant yet comfortable, perfect for our girls' night out. Jason and his expert team were so patient with our large group. The menu was a mix of classic steakhouse offerings with a modern twist. Each dish was crafted to perfection. We started with some tastings, Hamachi Shots, which were incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. For the main course, we had the tomahawk steak, and it was simply divine - tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. My friends were equally impressed with their selections, and we couldn't stop raving about all the food! I was allergic to seafood and the kitchen and staff made sure to make modifications so I can still enjoy all the items my friends were having. What truly set this experience apart was the attention to detail and the personal touches because we were celebrating the start of our besties wedding season. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and made us feel incredibly special. We felt so pampered. To top it all off, we ended our meal with the Cotton Candy, which was a fun and whimsical surprise that brought out our inner child. Thank you, Alexander's Steakhouse, for making our night out unforgettable. We'll definitely be back for more amazing food and wonderful memories! Next time, with the hubby!
Had such a great time last Monday with friends to kick off
Had such a great time last Monday with friends to kick off my best friend's wedding season! The ambiance, food, and service were exceptional! Special shout out to Jason and his team for taking such great care of us. Service: Our dinner was a little on the later side, but they never made us feel rushed or pressured to put our dinner to an end, especially since they knew we were celebrating something very special. They catered to our individual dietary needs, such as my other best friend having a seafood allergy and me being pregnant. We always felt tended to as Jason and his staff made sure we were enjoying the food, drinks and environment. Food: It was all so delicious! Our table had the tomahawk steak, most of the family style sides on the menu, hamachi shots, and the wagyu aburi nigiri. We also had a variety of desserts that were a perfect ending to our dinner. We all loved the wagyu nigiri as it basically melted in our mouths. My friends also absolutely loved the hamachi shots. I definitely want to come back here for the omakase! Thank you again to Jason and his team for making our experience at Alexander's so memorable. I know we will all be back!
Dined here with the girls in our bridal party to surprise
Dined here with the girls in our bridal party to surprise the bride with an intimate dinner. We wanted to jumpstart all the festivities that we have lined up for the upcoming months leading to her wedding. As soon as we all walked in, we were greeted immediately and instantly felt so welcome. The entire staff at the restaurant were so accommodating and super patient with us waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. The service was exceptional and the entire staff was knowledgable and explained every dish in detail as they arrived. Our server, Jayce, really went above and beyond for us and we couldn't be any more grateful. He made great suggestions and the food was phenomenal *Chefs kiss* !! The drinks were delicious and the desserts were so much fun! My personal favorite was the cotton candy. The manager, Jason, stopped by as well and checked in on us periodically to make sure we were having a great time. Thank you so much Jayce and Jason for giving us an evening to remember! It was definitely an experience we wont forget!
My sweet bridesmaids surprised me here for dinner to kick
My sweet bridesmaids surprised me here for dinner to kick off the countdown to my wedding, and I had the most unforgettable experience! The food was just amazing! This was my second time eating here, and I can only say great things about the food. My girlfriends and I really enjoyed the Hamachi Shots and A5 Wagyu Aburi Nigiri to start. The Tomahawk and the shareable sides were all so delicious as well. My favorite was the Fried Rice! We also had a variety of desserts to end our meal, and the staff even surprised me with a small cheesecake with a candle as part of the celebration. Such a sweet gesture! Every member of the staff was so patient and thoughtful. Thank you to Jason and the rest of the team for taking really great care of us! I definitely felt so special, and your team had a big part in that!
My absolute favorite steakhouse, this place was delicious
My absolute favorite steakhouse, this place was delicious and service was above and beyond incredible. It is a large restaurant that can accommodate both couples and large groups. We tried all 6 of their cuts of wagyu beef, and each one provided a whole different experience. Every single cut was tender and juicy, but my favorites were the Miyazaki, Kobe, and Oita which was extremely fatty. They also gave us 6 different salts to pair with the steak: black salt, cancale, sel d'antibes, appalachian salt, smoked salt, sal de gusano. We also had the caviar which was delicious, tasted fresh and well presented. The tartare came on bread with slices of truffle on top. However, although I love tartare, this dish was a pass. The bread to tartare ratio was too off and it overpowered the tartare. The rib eye (which I believe is dry aged) was extremely tender. This was the best ribeye I've ever had and it was especially good with the butter. Speaking of butter-- not pictured is the bread with the beef butter and honey butter inside a bone marrow they served us. Both were good, especially the honey butter. This was also the best truffle pasta I've ever had. The sauce was so creamy. I also love Kumamoto oysters because even though they're smaller, they're sweeter than normal oysters. They were super fresh and I believe they only serve oysters no older than 48 hours old. Lobster mac is a must at any steakhouse, and this one did not disappoint. Not pictured is the fried rice which was recommended but could have done without. However, the broccolini was worth an order, and I loved the hint of sourness in it. We had two desserts but I'll just include my favorite: the yuzu cheesecake! They typically give this for anniversaries & birthdays.
Made a reservation for our anniversary at 6pm and asked to
Made a reservation for our anniversary at 6pm and asked to be seated at a nice table not in a corner before showing up, showed up at 6pm and the restaurant was empty. Hostess sat us in a corner at a table that was not to our liking, so I asked for the manager if he could sit at a booth , manager came over and was SUPER RUDE and said he couldn't accommodate us, place is dead and looks old and run down, came to Houston's and it's packed with a much friendlier staff and a way better atmosphere ..... If you're looking for good service and an accommodating staff Alexander's Steakhouse is Not it!
Food was amazing.
The service was great, our waiter and the rest of the staff were very attentive. The overall look of the restaurant was appealing and very clean. Everything we ate was so fresh and delicious. Wagyu was perfect.
My favorite steakhouse.
I've dined here over a dozen times and I will continue to dine here another dozen times. My favorite part about this place is that you can dine alfresco for a more laid back atmosphere. Perfect for a warm summer night. Came here last night and the service was beyond expectations. Thank you to Fredrick for making my friend's birthday a very memorable one. See you again for the next celebration!
This is a quality steakhouse.
The service is impeccable, the quality of the food is top-notch, and the steaks are cooked perfectly. Outstanding wine selection. To be honest, this is a place i only go to one or twice a year. It ain't cheap. But, you get the quality that goes with a high-end steak house. So when you are on a special date or memorable occasion, this is it.
We got hustled.
Thank God we can afford anything, but damn, $530 for a tomahawk? The server just said, "We have tomahawk," and I said, "Yeah, let me get one," but he never mentioned it was a $530 off-menu item. Not worth it lol. Overall servers were nice but thats a one way of getting hustled.

Went here during Mothers Day weekend and was pleasantly surprised! The place is larger than it looked on the outside, it has three sections in which to seat and one is a bar area where you can go for happy hour! We were seated and given a glass of Champaign, followed by appetizers. The bread followed with 3 different butters - salty, sweet, and savory - so tasty! Main course we ordered was worth the wait, the steak, potatoes, mushrooms -Yum! Dessert we had a crème brûlée . We were then given a tart trio and chocolate candy followed by a cotton candy! This meal was the Best!!! Defiantly going back!!!
Loved the service and the Chef and Jayce our Head waiter
Loved the service and the Chef and Jayce our Head waiter was terrific! I highly recommend asking for Jayce and the atmosphere was soo beautiful!
Loved this place from the location to the staff and service.
We had a great experience with the omakase tasting menu for food and wine. I would say that it's worth trying it once, but probably not something I would do again because it did not blow me away. Service was outstanding, and food was tasty, but we everyone agreed that nothing stood out after to say we need to go back and do the tasting menu again. We would go back and order off the regular menu for sure.
Going on dates is good for the relationship.
Decided to sneak off on a nice dinner date in Pasadena while Don was with his Grandma. Decided to spoil ourselves at Alexander's on this gloomy day. As always, Alexander's had this clean and luxurious steak house feel with rustic, yet modern furniture and high ceilings. Was opting for the Omakase menu, but glad we skipped and just stayed with ordering off the menu. Started the dinner off with the Hamachi Shot, which was one of the few new things we haven't tried before. To be honest, we could have done without it. It was very salty and plain. Next, I ordered the Wagyu Beef Tartare, which was really unique. It didn't come with bread on the side, so I wasn't sure how to dissect it at first because I didn't realize that it was already on top of brioche bread. I was a bigger fan of this than D. I do wish they still had the Wagyu Toast. We had a hard time deciding if we should have gotten the grilled octopus, and upon watching someone else receiving it, I'm glad we didn't. They also complimented us with potato hash, which surprisingly has been the better attempt that we ever had by far. Now for the fun part, the steaks. While we were waiting, they provided us with the specialty bread basket with their infused 3-way butters. Simple yet fantastic. Right when we packed ourselves with the bread was when our stars of the show finally arrived. The 28 oz, Westholme F1 Australian Wagyu, cooked medium rare with a second order of their 3 oz, Sanuki Farm Olive Fed A5 Wagyu also cooked medium rare; served with a collection of tasting salts. Along side the meats were a roasted garlic clove, a charred lemon, a small cup of yakiniku sauce and a charred green onion bulb. Honestly, the meat was so perfectly seasoned that we didn't need nothing with it. I ordered a side of Bone Marrow to compliment it. Although good, you don't need it, but one side that is a must order is their Mushroom Medley. I'm not sure what citrus vinaigrette they mixed in, but you'll regret not trying it. While sharing the meat platter, we were just ordering cocktails to take advantage of our time away from responsibilities. At the end, they brought out desserts. I forgot that they also always provide complimentary fresh cotton candy. This round we got a blueberry & banana flavored one. I'm not a fan of sweets, but it definitely added a nice touch to complete the dinner.
The evening didn't start out as well as I would have liked.
I reserved through Open Table and made a specific seating request. Unfortunately, my request wasn't accommodated. In fact, I was told that the last two booths were given to other guests 15 minutes prior to my on time arrival. To his credit, our server Frederic was able to salvage the evening by providing superior service. He was very apologetic, and made us feel more valued. His level of service was outstanding. He was very professional and attentive. Dinner was delicious. We both ordered the filet, which was one of the best that I've ever had. The temperature was perfect and the seasoning was spot on. We accompanied our steaks with mashed potatoes and the fried rice.
My husband made reservations at this restaurant for my
My husband made reservations at this restaurant for my birthday. We arrived on time and we were taken to a table outside. It wasn't really warm enough for outside dining (heat lamps not on, slightly windy) so I asked why we were seated outside when my husband had made reservations well in advance. I usually would not say anything, They apologized and told us that they believed they could seat us at another party's table once they leave. They brought us a complimentary drink. My husband and I both got the omakase (we don't drink) , mine was citrus and his was fragrant. Mine was lavender-colored and lovely. He said that his drink was OK. They moved us inside by the time we ordered. It was much better inside. The ambience is lovely, I only wish that we had a table where we could see more of the interior of the restaurant. We ordered appetizers: Market Beet Salad, Wagyu Beef Tartare, Caviar. The beet salad I shared with my husband. It was delicious. My husband liked the beef tartare-- he said that his grandmother's was better because he preferred it finely ground. Our 16 year kid disagreed-- to be expected. We both enjoyed the caviar, but (again) our 16 year old didn't. I have a friend that loves Alexander's and she recommended the caviar-- it's a favorite choice from this menu for her family. I'm glad that we tried it! My husband ordered the Seafood Pasta. He didn't care for the texture of the noodles. It is a thicker noodle and he found it "doughy." There was very little seafood. My 16 year old ordered the 22 oz. Kansas City Strip, medium rare. When it came out it was underdone to his liking and he sent it back. He's not a steak eater, but he did like it. Of course most of it went home. I had my usual--filet mignon. I chose the 6 oz. Australian wagyu. Unlike my son, I am a steak person and I love a good filet. For me, this was not it. I ordered it medium rare and it came out at least medium. I didn't say anything (since I had already said something about the seating). I took half of it home, which is normal for me. Personally, I think overcooking a steak just ruins it. I was a little disappointed, because I was expecting it to be the highlight of my meal. My son and I shared the Mac-N-Cheese side dish. I thought that it was just OK, but my son liked it (16). My husband asked/reminded (numerous times apparently) them about it being my birthday and a special dessert. He asked when he made the reservation, he asked when we arrived, and he even snuck away to the restroom when we finished with dinner. Yet, we ordered dessert and received it without my birthday candle. It was brought out later-- maybe they forgot or were too busy with other guests. No birthday song either. For dessert, we ordered Yuzu Crème Brûlée (OK) and Molten Chocolate Lava Cake for my son (which he enjoyed). Dessert was nice, but not anything special. And my family is very big on dessert. The best part of the meal for me was the cotton candy. It was very flavorful and a perfect end. And they forgot to bring my husband the Mexican Mocha that he ordered for dessert, but they also didn't add it to the bill. We usually try to go to a fine dining restaurant to celebrate family special occasions because they seem to do a little more. The service was good, but not the level of attentiveness that I'm used to when we go to some other restaurants for our special days. So I think that's something to keep in mind if you're planning a special dinner. Edit: My husband says that I'm being too kind. Because he said we should give either 3s or 4s, I chose 3s because as he said, they seated us outside.
Sadly not how I remembered it.
Went there last night to celebrate my daughter's birthday, the rib eye was chewy and gamey and the brussel sprouts were over seasoned.....I don't know when the new chef started but based on my experience from last November to last night the quality has significantly declined....so sad. Never going back!

Where do I start, the service was unlike anything else I've ever experienced, Jayce went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The food, just wow! From the shooters, to the octopus, to the steak, and my goodness the Oreo soufflé! You must come and experience this place!!!
