Agua Viva Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
It's a pretty expensive place But great for lunch
It's a pretty expensive place But great for lunch Beautiful settings With real good food Portions are not super big
What a great dining experience! Beautiful rooftop location
What a great dining experience! Beautiful rooftop location with views of downtown LA. Excellent service. Very attentive and friendly. Nice wine list and delicious food! They have heaters but bring a jacket as it's breezy and cool - even when we were there in mid-May. I highly recommend this place!
I just love this place.
Every time I'm in LA I make sure to stop in. I always order the Ocean's Bounty and this last time I branched out and had the New Zealand Sea Bream which was beyond words how good it was. There's really nothing on the menu you can go wrong picking.
I really want to love this place but as a party of 2 we
I really want to love this place but as a party of 2 we always get seated at the corridor as you walk in. There is no view of anything in this section. It's also very chilly and drafty in this section so if you don't like your food to get cold as soon as it comes, or you don't want wind to constantly be blowing at you while you eat, don't come here when temperatures are low. They have heaters but nothing really stops the wind.
No common business sense on wasabi.
Aqua Viva is supposed to be a high end roof top restaurant. I had high expectation when I made my reservation. I had an early dinner on a Thursday night. They had several private parties. I got a table in the middle and had no views of the downtown area. Disappointed. I ordered their Ocean’s Bounty which consisted of some oysters and sashimi. The presentation was fine. In the middle, there was a tiny lump of wasabi, about the size of a peanut. I asked the server to give me more wasabi. He said there would be a $5 charge for extra wasabi. This restaurant has no common sense about wasabi usage with sashimi. The sashimi quality was below average. They well deserved a zero-star review. I quickly crossed out Aqua Viva from my dining list.
Absolutely ridiculous.
We had 6 pm reservations and were stuck in traffic. We arrived at 6:20- now if they had given away our table I would have understood but no...they had taken last call for food! At 6 pm...which they did not tell us at the time of reservations. This is not "open till 10". Nor is it a restaurant- it is a bar at that point. It's fine if that's the operation you're running but you need to tell people. Especially folks who made reservations months in advance. Will never try their food or attempt to eat there again.
We were staying at the Conrad Hotel so we ordered Aqua Viva
We were staying at the Conrad Hotel so we ordered Aqua Viva menu items from the pool, because food and drinks always taste better from the pool. Great service by Edgar, the whole experience is elevated here. Downtown LA is completely different from when I went to college at USC. Loved the cocktails, Watermelon Report & Paloma.
The food was amazing and the view was beautiful.
I loved the customer service everyone was so welcoming and attentive. The server Miguel was so kind and generous with his time. He was willing to take pictures of my cousin and I for her birthday. Miguel was amazing looking forward to coming here again!
Parking: you'll most likely need the valet.
Atmosphere: it looks like the pictures, which is definitely the selling point. Service: terrific. Very friendly and helpful. This was true with all hotel staff we came across. We were seated immediately with no reservation on a Sunday afternoon. Food/drink: there's definitely a premium due to its location and the Jose Andres label. The mussels, croquettes, crudo, and chocolate puff were all delicious and came out quickly. Overall, it is a good place to impress a date or have an instagrammy bday.
Came for a business lunch April 15th and had a lovely time.
Ambiance is outdoors, relaxed and breezy near the pool (which is past another fence nearby). Service is impeccable - never intrusive but just enough, and just as professional as at San Laurel. Food was artfully presented- Scallops - very refreshing and a great appetizer Tzatziki - not your typical! Check out my photo for the cute bouquets of lettuce they arrange with this. Whole fried fish - I didn't expect my New Zealand sea bream to be swimming up to me from the plate! That was certainly a novel presentation. Not to mention delicious! The pieces I picked fresh from the bone were phenomenal. The fried pieces sitting on the plate were a bit less so but not bad. A delightful mojo verde sauce brought freshness and balance. Profiterole - highly recommended. It's like a giant cream puff, but elevated. I'd def return for lunch sometime. For dinner - I have a soft spot for San Laurel!
My partner and I had a dinner reservation for early
My partner and I had a dinner reservation for early Saturday evening before a show. If you care more about taking photos than you do about service and food, then this is a great spot, because the rooftop is lovely. However, the server that we had was terrible. At one point, it became so bad that we had to turn it into a joke because otherwise it would've been so upsetting that we were spending so much on a dinner with such bad service. To sum it up, the server forgot our drinks, never checked up on us after the kitchen staff brought out our food, rolled away our heat lamp and brought back one that was out of gas, didn't ask us how anything was or if we were comfortable, and gave us the wrong sides. At the end of our meal after our server had ghosted us for most of the evening, I noticed another server bringing out blankets to other tables and flagged down our server to ask if we could also have blankets. She brought me one but didn't bring one for my partner (she said she was going to go look for another one but never did). This place is trendy aesthetically but the food is average (at best - it was barely average) and the service was the worst we have had in LA. I had the lobster roll and it had barely any lobster in it and a lot of bread. The fries tasted like a fast food place. My partner's burger was burned. The cheese plate appetizer was good. We were bummed that this was such a miss because we were looking forward to it, but I imagine there is a lot of hype because this is a celebrity chef. I do not recommend. Definitely try to get a recommendation somewhere else downtown if you can.
Casual setting, Warm Staff, Delicious Food
Spent a lovely, March evening here. Although a bit chilly there were patio heaters and we were brought blankets to keep us warm. We loved that touch. This spot is more casual than the other restaurant on the Conrad property. We enjoyed our casual food of patatas bravas, veggie chips with a delicious whipped yogurt dip and a delicious burger. The service provided by Mathew was great. He took good care of us. A+!
Pleasant brunch spot in downtown Los Angeles
Very nice spot for brunch in downtown Los Angeles. An open air rooftop restaurant at the Conrad Hotel, next to the pool, it is casual and pleasant. The food was very good and service was attentive.
Beautiful: Restaurant, view and food
Everything about Agua Viva is beautiful, from the rooftop location to the view of City Hall to the food itself. Yes, portions are on the small side. We countered that by ordering cheese and meat appetizers to share. For entrees, the grilled octopus was excellent and the smash burger was surprisingly unique. One of the best burgers we’ve ever had. Also, the Saints G&T was the best gin & tonic I’ve ever had. Hands down. Would go back to Agua Viv for the Saints G&T alone.
Really minuscule portions!
This was my second visit to agua viva and it was disappointing! First the cosmo I ordered literally was maybe 3 sips! See the picture with this review! Now the gazpacho with crab was one of the best i have ever had! I also ordered the hand made sushi rolls and literally got 2 seaweed wraps and had to ask for more with 6 pieces of minuscule pieces of sushi (salmon& yellow tail) again see picture with review! The desert was delicious & cappuccino great! Definitely a downgrade from my first visit!
Protestors Ruin Lunch Experience
We went to lunch at Agua Viva today after a Dudamel concert - so 1:15. The Hilton Hotel employees (Agua is located inside the new Hilton DTLA) were protesting when we checked in- at least 25 of them marching around the outdoor beautiful restaurant chanting at the top of their lungs in protest against Hilton and their contract. We asked the hostess how long the protest would go on - she said about 10 minutes. After 15 minutes when we were seated the manager said "I'm sorry, but this shouldn't last long." The protesters did leave after 15 minutes. However, during the lunch they returned - twice - chanting so that we couldn't hear each other speak. They were also there when we entered the elevator - screaming at the top of their lungs. Agua Viva may not have been able to bar them from entering - but they should have apologized and offered some discount or free item as conciliation to us as diners. It is an expensive restaurant with very small portions. If they knew the protestors would come back during our lunch they should have told us when we checked in as I understand the protestors have been doing this for days now- knowing that, we might not have stayed for lunchI 'm not sure I would go back.

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
