A. Wong London Reviews from The Last Year
Superb dim sum & service
Super lunch at amazing A Wong. 4th visit and they just get better and better. Team made fuss of us: Iris organised our booking and John welcomed us as returning stars. Michael is exceptional sommelier / such a fun character. Dim Sum some of best in world alongside Man Wah and Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong. A peculiar location opposite a Sainsbury’s in Pimlico, but once inside such a great experience. Only two star restaurant in London where a bottle of wine and sumptuous food don’t require second mortgage. Thank you Andrew & Nat.
The best you will get...
By far the best Chinese/Mandarin restaurant I've been to in the world. I've been here four times and it just get's better and better each time... I've been a patron since the days when Andrew's parents had the previous restaurant and it's totally incredible what Andrew and his team have done and how they consistently deliver on extremely high expectations. The only place I can compare this, even remotely to is the Man Wah at the MOHK. A previous reviewer compared A. Wong to Hakkasan. It's like comparing a Ferrari to a Prius...
Amazing
Lovely lunch. Amazingly delicious food. Lovely presentation. Very friendly service. Nice ambiance. Very deserving of its two stars !
Not accommodating of allergies and rude about it
Terrible place. Rude emails around allergies, would not recommend. We went there a couple years ago and very friendly emails, something must’ve changed as the welcome emails now are rude and not what you’d expect from two Michelin stars.
Collections of China menu
This was our second visit to A Wong. They were extremely helpful as they had to cancel our booking, but arranged to swap nights with another restaurant we were going to later in the week so that we were still able to go. We had pre-dinner drinks in the small bar downstairs and were then seated in the restaurant. The staff were very efficient and knowledgeable and introduced each dish explaining what region of China it was from and in what order to eat them. We mentioned the charismatic waiter who had served us last year and "Uncle Ben" came through to see us and also bade us goodbye when we left. The food was very good, although I preferred the Menu of Five Movements which we had last year. Just my personal preference, but my taste buds became a little overwhelmed as so many of the dishes had strong individual flavours. However we will definitely go again.
Best in the world, we thought
Instead of the more relaxed dim sum lunch, which is the best in London, we reserved the classic tasting menu for the evening, and it was almost a three hour experience. Just when you thought they had given you the best tasting bitelet you’d had in your entire life, they would serve you something even tastier. It was truly decadent the way it went on and on for hours as the surprises kept coming. The kitchen team is genius. We sat at the bar, with a view of the open kitchen and watched them work. We chatted with several waiters and with the charming and beautiful Mrs A Wong, who was serving part of the time. It is their family business and she is a formidable person and a perfectioness in her own right. We always have something to talk about, so the hours passed nicely as we were barraged by 28 different dishes, each one different, all well presented, with some bordering on the highly elaborate but all of them shamelessly good. It’s hard to single anything out, everything was excellent. The bill is as eyewatering as the food is mouthwatering, but by then you don’t care because it’s actually good value for the effort they’ve put into it. I am not sure why anyone would ever give them a bad review or less than three Michelin stars. Everything throughout the entire experience was exceptional and praiseworthy. We’ve been coming for about ten years, and have watched them evolve into being one of the top handful of best in the world. It’s a good idea to skip lunch if you are headed to A Wong for dinner.
We made a reservation here for a la carte lunch, and it was
We made a reservation here for a la carte lunch, and it was a wonderful experience, but not all of the food was a total hit. Everything is priced by the piece, so it does add up. I definitely had some favorites and some I wouldn't order again, but everything was beautifully plated and I had a wonderful experience. One of my favorites was the scallop cheung fun. They had such unique and innovative plays on traditional dim sum food. Like the shumai and har gao were even done differently than usual (and done extremely well!!). The service was also quite nice, but I did have to get their attention a couple times to notice I needed a refill on my tea. The restaurant itself was set up in an interesting way. If you arrive early, they take you to a waiting area in their basement which is quite interesting. However, I'm not a fan of their outdoor dining section--it feels a little makeshift and doesn't feel as upscale as what you might expect a 2 Michelin star place to feel like. I'd love to come back here to do the tasting menu for dinner as I hear it's a bit different from the lunch menu. Overall, will likely be back, but it is pricey with some hits and misses, so won't be a regular occurrence.
Exceptional experience
What can I say, this is an exceptional dining experience which was my sons first foray into fine dining. Each course was unique, well presented and most importantly delicious. Staff were excellent and worked in unison. Ambience was perfect.
Stunning
A. Wong was magnificent. The tasting menu really did take us on a journey through China. The flavours, the presentation, the theatre was all so exciting and impressive. The service was excellent and we had the pleasure of meeting several staff members who were all so knowledgable and professional. We went for the prestige wine pairing which was spectacular. Each wine matched perfectly with each course. Beautiful interiors and beautiful night overall.
Good but equal amongst the rest, not the best…
A Wong is a good Chinese restaurant and certainly one of the best in the UK, there’s no doubt about that, the food is presented nicely and the menu is imaginative enough, but I wasn’t blown away by the flavours by any means. I do personally think two stars from Michelin is quite generous. I had the evening tasting menu and it must be said that the dim sum is probably the best in the UK and the noodle dish was very good also, but everything else for me didn’t stand out at all, it was dish after dish of forgettable things. Having eaten in every single Michelin starred Chinese restaurant in the UK as well as the perfect one but should be two Michelin starred Shang Palace in Paris, I unfortunately cannot say A Wong is drastically better than the two Hakkasan locations or Kai that it deserves an extra star. Michelin award restaurants stars for culinary achievement but it has to be said that service, decor and even location can sway inspectors in a certain direction to believing a restaurant is better than it truly is. Which puzzles me as to why this restaurant is two Michelin stars when the food doesn’t stand out whatsoever and considering, as a previous review mentioned, it’s quite frankly poor location, premises, decor and not so perfect level of service. Considering Alex Dilling and Claude Bosi are two of the greatest restaurants in the country at the moment and are outperforming all the three stars, how A Wong can be the same star rating as them is poor judgment on Michelin’s behalf. The cost of the evening tasting menu is also grossly overpriced considering most dishes are tapas like in size (though so are L’Enclume’s so this may be a modern trend). For me, A Wong is not that different to Kai or the two Hakkasans and isn’t worth the extra cost at all, especially in the evening. It would be better to go in the daytime for dim sum and à la carte. A good restaurant but by no means a two Michelin starred restaurant sadly.
Delicious & interesting ‘Taste of China’
We had a really fantastic meal at A. Wong. As vegetarians we often find set/tasting menus can be a bit disappointing, when you see what other diners are enjoying. This was not the case at all at A. Wong. Each dish felt incredibly considered and everything was delicious. The staff were very friendly and proactive, but also enthusiastic about the food and the ethos of the restaurant. We even found a new favourite French wine courtesy of the excellent sommelier. Thoroughly recommended!
It's been 3 months since I visited A.
Wong, and the duck yolk custard bun still lives rent free in my mind. I think about it daily and look forward to my next visit.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerNewbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
