I had a terrible experience dinning in this restaurant on March 18, 2023. First, we were told the rest room was flooded. Unable to use. Don't know why a restaurant is allowed to do business without a restroom.Second, I was cheated with the dish called Sauteed Eels with Yellow Chives, which costed $26.95. The real name of this dish should be" Sauteed Bean Sprouts". There was no yellow chives at all. Few pieces eels, you can count with one hand. I was fooled to pay a very high price for the cheapest dish.Very disappointing.

Decided to give this place a try after our go to restaurant had a 2 hr wait. I've seen articles on 456 being top rated but thought it was a tourist trap. Still we decided to give it a try and see for ourselves whether the hype was real. Fortunately, we had a good experience. Service is fast here, servers expect you to order quick, eat and get it moving. We went with the soup dumplings, scallion pancake with beef, and shanghai fried noodle. The soup dumplings were a bit too doughy for my liking but the soup and filling was great. Scallion pancake with beef was also a bit too saucy which ended up making the pancake soggy. But overall the flavors were pretty spot on!
Be the first to ReplySo disappointing.
The pan-fried noodles taste like the noodle chips that are used as a topping on salads, but stale and tasteless. It was served plain with a tub of brown sauce and vegetables on the side. The dumplings were also very bland and stale in nature, served with a very watery sauce on the side. Stopped here randomly because the restaurant was packed and had vegetarian options, but wouldn't return. Very subpar.

Came here during lunch hours and ordered 2 dishes from Lunch Special menu. The food are very delicious, especially Vegetable with Tofu Skin that are perfect in taste, with very authentic Shanghai style. Service are excellent And prices are hard to beat. Love this restaurant.

Best rice cakes (Shanghai style is my favorite) and they have amazing soup dumplings. 8 to an order which leaves my extra satisfied. Super flavorful and always delicious!

I only came here for soup dumplings but the soup dumplings were great. They had good flavor and were filled with the right amount of meat for the dumpling, although the dumpling itself wasn't too big. The dough of the dumpling was thin, as I prefer it to be. I do wish there was a little more soup in each dumpling. I also ordered the Singapore mei fun to go and it was good, even the next day. Great option for soup dumplings, wasn't any wait when I came on a Sunday evening.

Loved this place! Everything was delicious and waiter was extremely friendly , even with the lunar new year chaos!
Be the first to ReplyGreat and affordable food.
I give this place a 4 stars on food and price. I would recommend to bring cash, since they do charge you an extra 4% if you pay with a card. Service was very quick but you may have to share a table with other people. Plates are very big, so you can definitely share it with more people. We order the pork gyozas, spicy orange chicken, beef with green scallions, and fried rice for 3 people and we had some leftovers. Very clean as well and they give you free hot tea.

We were visiting the city and just happened to stop by this restaurant. We had orange chicken and chicken lomein, both very delicious. But the star of the show was definitely the dumplings. They are a MUST. We came back the next day to have more! Great service, great place, great food!!
Be the first to ReplySadly I used to love this place.
They have the best spicy sauce!! - still the best, very good.Very good Shanghai Pan Fried Bun - still good besides that it used to be 8 for $5.95 pre-pandemic and now is 6 for $8ish I think.Spicy Minced Meat Noodle - ingredient is fine but the texture was over mixture with corn starch to fill the plate. Just don't love the texture. Sliced warm cucumber was odd. Meat and bean curd were good.Cold Platter: Jellyfish wasn't crunchy and too sweet. Spicy Cabbage was more like a Sweet marinated Napa Cabbage, just wrong.Hot and Sour Soup was a total failure like a bowl of thick sweet corn starch soup.I miss my 456.
Be the first to ReplyWow! Not much needs to be said.
Great service, great soup dumplings and potstickers and superb pricing. About 7 dollars for 8 soup dumplings. Value for quality 10/10

If I lived in NYC will I be back here, YES! They have a bathroom to use yay! Free tea, and the portions for the lunch were unbelievably huge!!!! The food was good but TBH tasted similar because of the sauce. I loved the no lines and that they didn't rush you. Also they take cc! Easy to find in Chinatown

.. 1st time for all of us and we loved everything. We ordered the soup dumplings, wontons in peanut sauce, orange chicken etc. But the real shining piece was the crispy turnip pastry....i had never had such a treat. So savory. I can't wait to go back
Be the first to ReplyI enjoy the soup dumpling the most.
A equal competition with Joe's Shanghai.
Be the first to ReplyA number of my favorite restaurants in Chinatown no longer
A number of my favorite restaurants in Chinatown no longer exist, but thank goodness this one is still here. I remember years ago I was wandering around Chinatown trying to find anywhere that sold cold sesame noodles, and finding it oddly difficult to locate anywhere that had them on the menu. This place had them, and they were delicious.Flash forward to now, and I was looking for a place to have a late lunch with a friend that I was showing around Chinatown. We decided to go to this place, and it was a great decision. We had soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, scallion pancakes, and cold sesame noodles. All of them were delicious.I lived in China for a year recently, so my standards for Chinese food are quite high. This place does not disappoint. The service was quick and friendly as well. I will certainly be back next time I am in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot to get the pork soup dumplings! Price is average.
As always I get the rice cakes. Good for lunch or dinner.

TIP: Although they do accept credit card, bring cash for a small discount. Pretty decent and fairly priced dim sum. I came as part of a party of 3 around noon Sunday and we were able to be seated right away. Service was prompt throughout, and our food came quickly. In order of preference we had the pan fried pork baos, pan fried pork dumplings, pork xiao long bao, and shrimp lo mein. The pork baos were my favorite by a long shot--they reminded of the Q-baos at Dough Zone. Although the flavor was good, the XLB wrappers were a little too thick. The lo mein was maybe the only item I wouldn't want to get again as it was so oily. Our total came out to $38 post-tip, which is affordable especially since we had enough leftovers to feed two of us for dinner. I recommend this place for a quick and cheap dim sum experience!
