An absolute top tier experience! We dined here for the first time to celebrate my wife's birthday. We were greeted with a personalized menu wishing my wife a happy birthday, complementary sparkling wine, and a thoughtful birthday card. The owner also stopped by and introduced himself, and spent some time warmly chatting with us. Just wonderful. Our very knowledgeable and friendly server suggested the five-course tasting menu, and we decided on that (although we declined on the offered wine pairings, having come from an extended tasting earlier that afternoon). Every course was delightful. Presentation of each was aesthetically beautiful and unique, and each course offered unique tastes and combinations of elements. By the last course we were absolutely stuffed to the gills. Not only did the entire experience exceed our expectations, we both felt Valette needs to become a regular staple of our Healdsburg return visits. This has not always been true of Healdsburg vendors, shops, and destinations. Some of the more "tourist-forward" kinds of businesses have been, well, disappointing in prior trips up here. Not so with Valette. We will definitely be back, as Valette has left up to the top of our Healdsburg short list.
Absolutely spectacular
Our dining experience was absolutely spectacular for my boyfriend’s birthday at Valette. I was a food writer for years and have dined in many top restaurants in the US and abroad, so my comparisons are many. For a special occasion in particular, I look for restaurants that have a very high quality in food; tasteful, creative decor; and exemplary service — but I also want unpretentious places that feel authentic — like someone’s passion project that is uncontrived yet purposeful, and where I feel that the value is there. We chose the chef’s 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing since we were celebrating a birthday. We had no idea it would be so over the top. We expected that we would be served the same foods or have a few options, but we were served ten dishes and ten wines. We thought portions would be on the small side, but each was absolutely sufficient for both of us to enjoy a few bites of all 20 servings of food and wine. We were so delighted we could barely contain ourselves! Every dish was impressive and the wines were far above average in price and quality (for the fixed price we paid) — and they were better than any wines in tasting rooms we went to on our trip. The expertise of all of the staff shone brightly throughout our meal! The service was stellar. The 5-6 people who came to our table were all knowledgeable, energized, witty and seemed to love their jobs. Isaac, our waiter and primary contact, gets an A+ for his 3-hour stint with us. He knew the food and wine well, and chatted amiably and answered our questions. Others dropped off dishes or picked up plates or poured wine. At the end we felt that we must talk to the manager so we could rave about our experience. Shaun came to our table, we talked at length, he gave us other recommendations for wineries, bakeries, and other favorites, and affirmed our other lunch and dinner choices. Then we went to the open kitchen to tell the chefs how thrilled we were. We wanted to tell everyone personally, and couldn’t stop talking about that meal for days. The bill came to $400 and we left a $100 tip. It was well worth it. While we are comfortable financially, we are not ultra rich, and the birthday boy said it well: “This birthday dinner will be memorable for a long, long, long time.”

I attached a photo of my boyfriend making a wish over a candle and dessert.
Wish i could rate this 2.
5. The food was mediocre and given the price and the reviews, I expected way better. If you're going to have a simple/traditional menu, the execution needs to be on point, and this wasn't. We started with the shishito peppers and the ice berg salad. These were not worth it. I feel l can cook this better at home. My husband and I had the scallops, the steelhead, and the steak, and shared them all. The steelhead was under-flavored and a bit over cooked. The steak was though. My husband liked the bone marrow that came with it. For dessert we shared their take on a Snickers bar and it was delicious!! It was the one part of the meal we would eat again. We ate at the Matheson (the night before), which was excellent, and we were pretty disappointed with the inconsistency in the quality between the two restaurants, which are owned by the same family.
Vallette has been our special place for important dates
Vallette has been our special place for important dates such as Valentine's, birthdays Anniversary. Not only is the food and atmosphere fantastic, but so is the staff. This evening my husband arranged a reservation to celebrate my birthday. Harry the manager and Shaun the assistant manager made our evening very special. Thank you for the special treatment. This is the reason we keep coming back. Ron&eileen Riggan
Another overrated restaurant.
We called on Friday for a Saturday seating at 5:00pm. The pretentious answer was, we might be able to fit you in on a small table but we cannot be late. Once we got there, we saw that the restaurant was 50% occupied. And it stayed that way thought the evening. We ordered the foie gras, the scallops and the salad for appetizers. All three were good. The scallops were perfectly cooked. Then came the disastrous main courses. The Chilean sea bass was overcooked and dry with no hint of seasoning including the stuff that was underneath, whatever it was. It is such a juicy and delicious fish when done right. Alas, this chef is unaware of how to do it right. I gave up eating it about 3/4 of the way through despite being hungry. The staff was raving about the duck so it was even more disappointing to find it chewy and tasteless. All you have to do with a duck breast is to salt it and then slowly render the fat off. The chef must've been asleep during the duck class. We were glad to have not tried the 4 course meal. We're staying away from this establishment and would like to wish you good luck if you decide to go.
Absolutely wonderful tasting experience at Valette in
Absolutely wonderful tasting experience at Valette in Healdsburg, that was even better than my tasting experience at their nearby sister restaurant, The Matheson. Valette stands out as a great spot for a special occasion meal. We each ordered the 5 plate tasting, and the way they do the tasting menu for couples is ingenious: each individual gets a different dish, which allows you to taste a total of 10 dishes, assuming your partner is willing to share their bites with you. Highlights include: day boat scallop encroute, carrot soup with candied fennel and whipped creme fraiche, their New York steak, a pasta that came with our tasting (but not on the main menu) and their desserts, particularly the bread, butter and jam. We loved the ten varied plate tasting for couples, and wondered why all restaurants don't do this. Everything we had was delicious perfectly prepared, service was relaxed and still attentive, timing was near perfect and they even printed our name on the menu for our special event. Impressed. Such a nice spot!

A perfect dining experience! Started with Champagne at the bar before being seated. Once seated, enjoyed of the best foie gras appetizers I've ever had (special for the day). We had entrees of steelhead and pork chop. Just excellent on every level. Service was relaxed but spot on. The GM was very personable and came by to make sure everything was to our liking. IT WAS!!
My last two visits here have been very disappointing.
I used to come here very often. Today, for the first time ever, we decided to do the 'trust me' tasting menu. A friend was a few tables away and told us about some of her courses for the tasting menu, so we decided to do it, and told our waiter that we expected the same courses. Our courses were very different. At $20 per course for the trust me menu, one of our courses was carrot soup. That was a joke. The pork belly then came out, and was barely room temperature. It was cold and hard. The course was obviously stacked in the kitchen and not prepared to order. We also clearly communicated with the server that we wanted the scallop as a course as our friend had it a few tables over - it only came out for two of four people at our table. Epic fail tonight. The server never asked how we liked any of the food. I told him about the cold and hard pork belly and he didn't seem to care. My husband and I were here a week ago and ate at the bar. We ordered the bone in fillet - the bartender presented it to us and it looked fabulous. It was finally served to us over five minutes later and was served medium well. Epic fail. I am very very sad to say, that I can no longer recommend Valette. It used to be my number one recommendation. It is obviously going downhill. Update - my friend got food poisoning last night - likely from the room temperature pork belly. (The carrot soup was also not very hot) The kitchen is definitely having issues. As a local, I won't be recommending Valette any more.
We walked in and were lucky to find a good table outside.
The food was spectacular especially the Day Scallops, the best I have ever had and I am spoiled ha ha ha......
Such a fun dining experience! Me and my husband came here
Such a fun dining experience! Me and my husband came here for our anniversary and it was nothing short of amazing. We did the tasting menu, opted for 6 courses. Every dish was specatcular! My husband and i got different dishes every course (2 different salads, 2 different proteins, ect), which makes it fun because you can try so many things. Frank was our server and he was fantastic. We asked him to bring us wine/port with our meal, and he knocked it out of the park, the pairings were spot on. Great guy with plenty of knowledge. We will be back!
A gourmet dinner delight, highly recommend!
We went to celebrate our 1 year Anniversary, had such a memorable evening! A special Anniversary menu, two glasses of complimentary champagne, superior service and our best dinner this year. Delicious scallop appetizer, foie gras, ahi tuna and steelhead, all unbelievable flavors❣ Thank you Alfred and the chefs at Valette for a fabulous Anniversary dinner!

Food the atmosphere is amazing we came to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Service is everything.
What a wonderful experience.
The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The setting very classy. And the day boat scallop appetizer was phenomenal, maybe best dish I have ever had at a restaurant, including entrees. Menu is limited but all dishes were very good. We had duck and steelhead, both outstanding.
Unbelievable.
....first time here and wow. 5/5 any day. 6/5 if I could. Can't wait to try the entire menu. An absolute GEM. Dukes bar then Valette - you are in for a treat.

I think about the Day Boat Scallops en Croute alot, mostly because I didn't think I liked scallops until we had them here. The scallops were so tender and sweet, studded with little pearls of caviar that added the perfect briny pop to the buttery sauce. Bob, the chef, came over and spoke with great passion about how the scallops were sourced, so that also really added to the experience as well. But the real star of Valette is Frank. He is so genuine, personable, and funny. Thank you for the conversation and going the extra mile to let us try new things. It has been awhile since my husband and I were able to take a break and go somewhere special - you made our evening very memorable and it was the perfect end to our weekend getaway.
Here on vacation with my family.
Was a healdsburg local for a long time and this place never disappoints. Very genuine and knowledgeable staff. Will continue showing support whenever I'm here and can. Thank you Valette!!
Place is nice, dinner was ok, I really wanted to give this
Place is nice, dinner was ok, I really wanted to give this 5 stars but there were a few things that could've been better. Sandra forgot our scallops appetizer which was a bummer, she said sorry after we asked about it but i felt she could've gone above and beyond and offered a complimentary desert as an apology and it would've done wonders for my experience (standard modus operandi for any high end restaurant) The older bearded gentleman in a suit brought us the appetizer at the end of our meal, didn't apologize, didn't engage, just dropped off the appetizer and left, really odd behavior for a so called "high end restaurant" The duck breast was rough too, felt like you were biting into a 2 dollar steak but overall the rest of the food was great, Solid 2.5 stars for me but this experience could have easily been a 5

During the pandemic we were able to pick up take out at Valette. It was so good we had been meaning to try it in person. We finally got there for dinner on Thursday night during restaurant week. We weren't able to get a reservation so we took a chance on a walk in table by arriving shortly after they opened. We were seated on their patio. I am tempted to give them 5 stars but since we didn't eat indoors I didn't feel like I saw the entire operation. The patio was very well set up with plenty of heaters. Our wait staff was attentive without being cloying and the food was as good as I remembered. Before dinner I had a Your Passion's Showing cocktail. Yum! I had the poke to start. It was right up there with some of the best I've had. Next came the steelhead filet served with broccolini. It was crisped to a golden color and surrounded by a chimichurri sauce. Delicious. For desert I had Volo Dark Chocolate Cremeux. If you like chocolate, and I do, you'll love this. I'm so glad we finally got here in person.
Return trip to little Healdsburg did not disappoint.
Lucky us to get a short list of the good places -we went to Willis, Dry Creek, that killer bakery (must buy that walnut bread) , Matheson rooftop, that place around the corner with the deck, Seghesio wines, RIDGE wine tasting in picturesque setting, and some great art at AERENA Galleries.
Came here for my anniversary and had a wonderful time.
The service was great and the cocktail and wine menu is extensive. We particularly enjoyed the ahi tuna dish.
Incredible dining experience in downtown Healdsburg!
This place is absolutely amazing. I had the trout and we shared a salad. The service is excellent, the staff are friendly and attentive, the food is absolutely amazing, and the atmosphere is great. Their wine selection is great and love that they support local wineries. They are now having Jazz music on Tuesday and Wednesday night. There is so much to love about this place and we will definitely be back soon!
The Joy of Dining!
Busy Friday night when we arrived for our reservation! The inside, where we ate, was quite boisterous with couples and small groups enjoy the evening. We usually prefer quiet restaurants, but the ambiance was joyful and fun! The food was wonderful — from the beautifully presented and served creamy pumpkin to the bone in pork chop. I cook and appreciate the work and creativity that goes into the preparation of farm to table fresh menus. Wonderful evening! We will be back!
It’s alright
It's ok.... I'm not sure why they have so many unfriendly people serving. Our server wasn't really friendly or attentive. The food is decent. Not life changing but it's pretty dark inside.
Disappointed
Our dinner was just average. We were disappointed since this restaurant usually has good reviews. Service though was good. However we wouldn’t come back and would recommend Hazel Hill, the restaurant at the Montage in Healdsburg where our dinner the second night was outstanding!
Still amazing! One of favorite restaurants ever!
Another amazing meal at Valette. Sigh. Such beautiful food, service, ambiance. Our server was outstanding and gave us great recommendations for wine and food. My husband and I shared the Ahi poke and the scallops en croute appetizer (incredible). Followed by the fish and the pork - again outstanding. We try to come here every time we visit Healdsburg as it’s such a treat. I’m so pleased that they are still able to maintain such a high standard and provide such a fabulous dining experience year after year. Service is top notch. Truly a wonderful dining experience from start to finish.
A stand out in Healdsburg!
Get ready for an elevated dining experience! The scallops are delicious. A beautifully balanced dish and equally impressive table side presentation. The charred salad had wonderful flavors and easily served as an entree. If your appetite allows, go for the 5 course tasting menu. The couple beside us ordered the tasting menu. Impressive that they brought different dishes to each for each course. Really allows to experience the range of wonderful food prepared here.
Great meal had by all
We recently dined at Valette with another couple. Our meal was quite tasty. They have a vast wine menu. We recommend Valette.
What a Place!
Great location in downtown Healdsburg. Interior decor is just wonderful--soaring ceilings, wonderful wood and light fixtures throughout. Had a great booth. Food was just wonderful: creative, beautifully presented, delicious. Service was excellent. Don't miss this one!
Will visit again
Good service , nice presentation for the scallop appetizer (recommend) , attention to details for birthday .wine list not that extensive would have liked a larger selection of wine . Restaurant bit to noisy if you are having a romantic dinner
This is a special occasion, scene-y spot.
It's not inexpensive but the food is great and the service typically is too on previous visits. However we recently dined here to celebrate my 40th birthday with friends and we were basically rushed from the table. The waiter wouldn't let us order appetizers first and then think about our meal. He preferred that we ordered everything at once. Then once we were finished eating, we were quickly moved on to dessert. Even as we were drinking coffee, they were clearing our dessert plates. Couldn't wait for us to leave so they could turn our tables. I understand a restaurant needs tables but this was an over $700 meal eaten in under 2 hours. Such a bummer for such a special occasion that I had envisioned as a lovely dinner party with friends in a special restaurant that I wanted to enjoy and savor. It was very awkward.
Went there for my anniversary.
Food wasnt that great. Got really sick that night. Service was good though.
This is truly one my favorite restaurants in the whole
This is truly one my favorite restaurants in the whole world!!! It rivals restaurants in France and SoCal. The service was off the charts great! The Chef's surprise was truly a surprise!!!
I recently had another great meal here.
I've been talking about it to everyone because it was just so wonderful. I very often order similar dishes so I won't bore you with the menu, but my review is actually about some gossip. Good gossip, however. Since eating at the restaurant, I have mentioned it to about 10 of my clients, nearly all of them reply in agreement, "yes I love Valette so much! It's one of our favorite restaurants! We go there every time we have a special occasion, "etc. So everyone loves Vallette, but we knew that. What truly stuck out to me recently was a chef who cooks, and has cooked, at two of the "best" restaurants in Sonoma county. She told me that working at valette is her goal. She has heard such wonderful things about working there, everyone in the industry knows what a great place it is to work, but there's such low turnover she doesn't know if she will ever get in. It warms my heart to hear nice things about places like this. We all know the food is great, but it's very gratifying to know that I am spending money at an establishment to take such good care of their people.
Sophisticated Valette
My wife and I dined at Valette while in Healdsburg. Valette has a sleek and sophisticated vibe and a vibrant energy. It has a full bar. We began with a burrata appetizer. It was creamy and was presented with squash, salami and sour dough bread. Entrees were the duck breast and the pork loin. Both were delicious and cooked perfectly. Valette is one of the best in Healdsburg.
Had dinner for four last night.
Our first time, other two guests had been several times. Lovely & warm interior on a frosty night. Although the drinks menu was extensive, it didn't have our usual libations. I had a glass of "Cast Brut Rose" a bit sharp for my taste, Herradura shot for hubby. Started with the warm bread & charcuterie board-each item was tasty & went well together, plenty for sharing. Had "special" pasta, Coriander Dusted Duck Breast, & 2 Smoked Prime New York steaks. All were delicious including side dishes of Baby Vegetable Jardiniere & Crispy Japanese Sweet Potatoes. Had a hard time getting someone to explain the tasting menu, but decided on menu items instead. Service was good, restaurant quite noisy since it was a full house. Preparing to leave, asked for leftovers to be packaged. Unfortunately only the meat from 3 meals was included in one box (two steaks were to be separate in one box) so I didn't get the leftover farro or crispy duck confit which was very good. Servers moved very quickly, perhaps we didn't make it clear. Will bring my own takeaway container on next visit. Live & learn. Overall delicious food in an inviting setting.
Incredible dinner with the best service
We had an outstanding dinner at Valette on Saturday night. The food was excellent (in particular the tuna app, the scallop app and the duck... the pork chop was just okay), and the ambiance of the restaurant is really fun. Unquestionably, the best part of the night was our server, John. He had incredible reccomendations (seriously, if he suggests something, order it), and was incredibly attentive. We love to go out for dinner, and we (there were 4 of us) would say that he was the best server we have ever had at any restaurant. Period. We also met Alfredo who gave us some wonderful local recommendations. Both John and Alfredo went out of their way to make our night unforgettable. We will absolutely be back to this charming restaurant!
Welcoming in Sonoma!
My wife and I had a weekend away in Sonoma and based on ratings and feedback choose to go to Valette and we are glad we did!! We called to push back our reservation an hour due to travel delays and Sean who answered the call was vey accomodating and a joy to talk with. Fast forward time to eat and Sean greeted us at the door and from that point forward it was a great experience from start to finish. Waiter was great, food and ambiance were amazing and we had a wonderful night! Friendly place in Wine Country and we will be back. Towards the end the owner came by(local pilot/fire fighter) and we had a great talk! Loved it!
This place is amazing! Love that you can book on open table.
We came once during covid and I remember it was awesome! Just went for Galentines day 2023...First super awesome you can book on open table. Very convenient. I realized we never got to see the inside before; it is somewhat dark but it totally sets the mood. Lovely modern playlist quietly plays in the background. We did the trust me menu again, and it did not disappoint. After our first course we asked if we could bump it up to 6 courses instead of the 5 minimum and they said no problem. 6 is the way to go I think; we did not leave hungry but 7 we would have been uncomfortably full and we didn't eat anything but a few strawberries all day ...Service was amazing! They always had someone making sure water was topped off, someone checked after each course was served we were doing okay. A+ service. All the food was amazing. Perfect seasoning, unique flavors that worked well together. My only tiff is that my scallop dish had just the one scallop! There was one dish that had a side salad where the aftertaste was black liquorish which neither of us were fond of, but we practically licked every other of the 11 plates. Neither of us could choose a favorite! The deserts are a perfect way to end the meal, and it's totally worth the splurge for French press coffee at the end. For anyone wondering the corkage fee is $25 Probably the best meal of my life! We're thinking how to justify going back next week for Restaurant Week lol Everything is amazing; you won't regret choosing here!

I made a reservation for my girlfriends birthday dinner and they went above and beyond. Service was amazing and super attentive. Food was spectacular I ordered the coriander crusted duck breast medium rare and it was perfect my girlfriend ordered the New York steak medium rare and it was also delicious. The ambiance was perfect very inviting and the dim lights create a beautiful romantic scene.
Tried this establishment out on New Years Eve.
The tasting menu was amazing. The Scallops were my favorite. The Foie was decadent. The meal overall was everything I expected it to be. The only flaw, we were placed outside in the bitter cold. There were open tables inside, but they stated they were reserved. As we were the first couples to show, would have been nice to have been placed inside.
It was like walking into a dream, hold on while you can .
From the FOH to the BOH, to the captain of the ship... BRAVO
Not Worth the Hype
Valette was one restaurant we were so excited for that somehow missed the mark. I ordered the salmon which was nothing to write home about. We did enjoy a fantastic bottle of wine and other couples with me enjoyed their steak and fish dishes. Service was pretty good but I am not sure this place was worth the hype.
My favorite dish of the night was their dessert - Bread,
My favorite dish of the night was their dessert - Bread, Butter and Jam. I totally inhaled that one, and the name of the dish is doing it quite a bit of disservice. The snickers bar dessert is too peanuty. Their organic salad was also amazing (even though it had a little bit of goat cheese...which I detest).Obviously their standout dish based on the pictures is their Day Boat Scallops en Croute. And while it's good and has an impressive presentation, it was a bit too heavy for my personal taste. I wouldn't order again. There's some things they do really well here, but cooking a steak is not one of them. Had to send back the Charred New York Steak (twice) after it came out well done both times, when we asked for medium rare plus. Maybe they misunderstood this and thought it meant medium well? Overall, the food and wine list were good while the service was excellent, so this is a place I'd come back to, but likely try out other dishes (except I'd order the bread dessert time and time again).
Yes
We did the chefs tasting for four with the valette wine pairings. Rose was great with beef tartar and tuna tartar. Loved both. Sav blanc was next. Interesting but not a good match to scallop soufflé and bucatini carbonara. Scallops and pasta amazing. Next was Pinot w trout and pork. Pinot was awesome. Best trout I have had. Pork was ok. Next was a cab. We were wined out by this time. Beef was good not great. Duck was killer. Port/Madeira w deconstructed bread pudding. Amazing. Others was like a snickers. Service was amazing.

We had an absolutely fabulous time at Valette and chose the 'Trust Me' Tasting Menu. This was an incredible option because unlike most tasting menus that bring you each the same courses, they brought both of us 5 different courses so we ultimately tasted 10 different items. Alfredo was an incredible server who not only pegged us both perfectly in terms of the chosen courses, but was such a pleasure to chat with and provided lots of wonderful suggestions for additional places to go in the area along with impeccable service. The outdoor ambiance was so cozy, despite the rainy weather. We left so full and happy...and can't wait to come back!
Comfortable and delicious
Had dinner for two here, and it was all wonderful. Mostly attentive service, barring it taking a long time for a refill of a drink. The appetizers are large, relatively speaking (by which I mean, larger than a lot of appetizers I've had at other upscale restaurants). Really enjoyed the pumpkin soup and "It's Not a Snickers Bar" dessert.
Overrated
The waiter was insulting. They failed to bring bread when asked if we wanted it. The vegetables were cold and, overall, it was perhaps a five out of 10. A bust.
Save your $$s and go to the plethora of GOOD restaurants in Sonoma County
Overpriced, mediocre food. I expected to be wowed by this restaurant but should have been forewarned by the prior reviews. Way too much puffery and very little delivery.
