WORTH THE WAIT
After many years hearing about The French Laundry and waiting to get a reservation, accompanied some friends for a 9-course dinner. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress and given some background about the restaurant. Did have to wait about 30 to 45 minutes beyond the time of our reservation to actually be seated but then settled back for a unique dining experience. There was a lot of different foods to sample from poultry to seafood to meat dishes. All of them were well prepared, but honestly some were better than others. The buttered lobster was a personal favorite. As the evening was winding down, overwhelmed by an onslaught of various desserts. This is probably the type of place you actually visit once for the experience but it was an enjoyable evening.

Once in a lifetime dining experience and what a wonderful experience it was! Every course was delicious and the wine pairings really complemented the meal.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelmed, sadly
Very underwhelming. The food was good, but not exceptional. The staff was super attentive and the space was nice, but in the end it is about the food. I had a piece of lamb that was quite difficult to cut, and tough. The desserts all came out rapid fire. Everything “looked” great, but once again it came down to the flavor, which was for a quarter of the dishes, not there. Hated to give this place 3 stars. Went to KOMI in D.C. years back that blew this out of the water! Turned to my friend who said the same thing when leaving.

Terrific experience from booking the reservation to the meal itself. It was for a special birthday. We did the chef's menu, gave the sommelier a wine budget for us, and allowed them to choose our wines. The food was amazing. The wine was terrific, but the service and attention to detail were most impressive. Perfect, but not staidly formal. The playlist was great. I am sincerely looking forward to another visit, perhaps in the summer months, so we can enjoy the gardens.

We've been lucky enough to dine here 4 times now. It's always incredible and the staff, which hasn't changed in years, is always happy to see us and makes each visit a very special occasion. We live in Southern California and have what I think is some of the best restaurants in the country and nothing comes close to the experience you'll have here.

amazing amazing amazing amazing amazing great place . One of the best restaurants on earth, I was invited by someone very special and it was fantastic.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing! Good food at an astronomical price
A major disappointment! I had been looking forward to a 3* Michelin experience, but while the food was (mainly) good, it was not exceptional. I believe Michelin are threatening their own reputation as the leading guide for fine dining if they allow French Laundry to retain their current rating. The Sommelier was most interested in how much he could extract from the group (when the first question is what is your budget it should have been a clue) rather than trying to ensure the best match of wine to the various dishes. I found the Cobia delightful and the Duck excellent, but the rib of lamb was not tender. The desserts were also good, but too many. The overwhelming experience was one of a restaurant that was living on its reputation and had become complacent. The manner of the staff was a little pompous and yet there are much better 1* establishments around and nothing could ever justify the price this place charges.
Be the first to ReplyAn Expensive Disappointment
Four of the 12 courses in the Tasting of Vegetables were good. One of those 4, was the bread. The garden broccoli "parfait" was disgusting. It looked like sludge (see picture attached) and tasted worse. The cheese course was also bad. My dinner companions who had the regular tasting were equally disappointed. The lamb was tough. The fish was also bad. The wine pairings were very average and astronomically expensive. None of the wines were particularly good. Some were not yet ready to drink and most did not complement the food. It was obvious the sole objective of the sommelier was to increase the wine tab. All of the other 4 restaurants we ate at in Yountville were significantly better and were 1/4 of the price. I am shocked this place has 3 stars. The only thing that agrees with that assessment is the price.
Be the first to ReplyOnce in a Lifetime Meal Experience
We've been looking forward to this experience for a long time and The French Laundry exceeded our highest expectations. This is truly a dining perfection experience. The food, venue and service were superlative. We were thinking to do a pre-set wine pairing with the 12 courses, but the sommelier asked us our preferences and price range and created a pairing specific to our tastes and budget. Our occasion was my son's 21st birthday and we were greeted at the door by name and everyone on the staff said "Happy Birthday" to my son - off-the-chart hospitality!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely the worst Michelin rated restaurant with any stars.
We have eaten at many (over 20) Michelan 3 star restaurants including several times at Freddy Girardet's Hoetl de Ville in Crissier, Taillevaent, Laserre, Paul Bocuse, several times at Le Tour d'Argent where we became engaged in 1977 etc. This is the worst experience and Michelin any star restaurant, we have ever visited. We reserved a table through Americn Express Concierge service at 6pm. We arrived with our friends and were told we had no reservation. They asked for a confirmation number, which was left at our hotel - 30 minutes away. They said to return at 9 and we would have a table. We were very hungry by 9, and we were their on time, and I showed them the confirmation number from Amex. The maitre d'hotel still claimed Anerican Express didn't make the reservation. We were told to wait for a table in the garden area and given a glass of champagne and bread sticks. An hour later we were the last people seated in the restaurant. Our dinner, which was the only item offered was breast of chicken! Our friend commented, "This is like the chicken at Costco." OH, by the way, we are paying $300 plus per person for a breast of chicken entree. Equally disappointing was the grossly over-priced non- descript wine list. The insulting lies from the head waiter aside, the meal was the worst of any 1 star Michelin restaurant we have ever frequented. Giving this awful experience 1 star is overeating it. If you want a better Thomas Keller meal, go to his nearby bistro restaurant. This is the most over-rated restaurant where we have eaten. SAVE YOU MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE.

This laundromat has big commercial machines and takes credit cards. Easy to get to right across from Walmart.

A flawless symphony of fresh, sustainably sourced ingredients meticulously prepared and designed to delight the eyes as well as the pallet. The FL is a beautiful historic building surrounded by a beautiful patio; you should take time before or after your 3 hour dining experience to appreciate the grounds, the intricacies of the architecture, and the gardens across the street which must be visited. The FL is spotless throughout; even the bathrooms are renovated and constantly kept immaculate. The invitation to visit the new kitchen should not be missed so you can get a glimpse of the tenacious dedication of the staff working to execute the culinary delights. The dining adventure is highlighted by the friendly and accommodating staff as well as the well timed presentation of the dishes, well orchestrated with the utmost detail and without pretentiousness. Others have also reviewed the dishes which were truly delectable, in our opinion; but you can clearly conclude that it is the quality of the ingredients originating from fastidiously chosen suppliers, the talent of the chefs, the conscientiousness of the staff, and the dining experience that they flawlessly deliver that make their 3 Michelin stars well deserved. Because this was my birthday, they also graciously prepared a beautiful layered cake accompanied by a festive sparkling candle and sent us home with a chef signed personalized copy of the menu, fresh shortbread cookies and K and M chocolate, which was a very gracious send off after a memorable adventure.

Like myself The French Laundry has changed a lot since February 17th 2009, a landmark meal from Cory Lee and Thomas Keller then costing roughly 40-hours of pay while solidifying an interest in dining that has only continued to grow. Now with more seats, more light, an extra thousand feet in the kitchen and even music America’s foremost fine dining institution is currently guided by Chef David Breeden while GM Michael Minnillo continues to lead a service team second to none. Still accessed by the famous blue door and a small foyer, the same two-top as prior waiting with a clothespin and tri-folded napkin, dinner began with Champagne and Canapes including the Salmon Coronet followed by silky Cauliflower Soup. Seated with the words “Have fun,” a phrase one may not usually associate with a Michelin 3* Restaurant, the night continued with a quartet of Seafood before the Mother of Pearl spoon accompanying timeless “Oysters and Pearls.” Selecting Riesling to pair with lighter courses, a topped-Egg with Truffles then bold Blood Sausage alongside Falafel, the night’s Lobster came as a Cake brightened by Citrus before “Bread and Butter” in the supplemental form of housemade Kugelhopf beneath a Parmesan Tuile liberally covered by shavings of a baseball-sized White Truffle. Barolo from the Italian Truffles onward, Pork “Pate” never so refined and Duck with crackling Skin each an exercise in precision, A5 Wagyu carries with it a premium price matched by its sourcing alongside Beef Fat Toast and Wagyu Kielbasa. Using yesteryear’s Gougere as a Cheese course, then the Bocuse-fashion flood of Desserts highlighted by Maple Ice Cream plus “Coffee and Donuts,” it is alongside the bill that Mignardises arrive in excess along with a copy of the menu and Shortbread Cookies for later. Beginning to end a remarkable meal The French Laundry remains America’s definition of excellence and in an era where the destination Restaurant “arms race” evolved to include social messages, science and cultural preservation, Chef Keller’s vision remains rooted in luxury with premium Ingredients used liberally, each bite precise and complex while staff encourages guests to have fun.
Be the first to ReplySuperb without fault!
It is hard to believe that such excellence and care can produce such fresh, creative cuisine year after year. Our last visit was pre-pandemic. Thankfully, TFL not only survived, but has thrived. The Chef de Cuisine, David Breeden, carries out Chef Thomas Keller’s visions so well. We were treated to some standards revisited (oysters and pearls, a cornet variation on bagels and lox, and a dessert array that never disappoints). Just picked veggies from their extensive garden accompanied most of our dishes - a delight, since I had walked through the garden shortly before service. And was amazed at the variety. Though the entire meal was spectacular, particular raves go to the Pekin Duck and the Snake River Farms’ beef. Once again, a wonderful experience nearly impossible to replicate - and they keep doing it over and over again. Bravo to the entire staff!

...and worth every penny! Our party of 4 enjoyed dinner in the courtyard and it could not have been more perfect. The menu offered an amazing display of courses, all perfectly plated and served. Staff was friendly and gracious - Phillip was our host, Aaron helped with our wine pairing. Each course was served timely and Phillip was nearby to keep those glasses from being empty! Highly recommend the experience, would definitely return. The courtyard would be my preference again if weather permits. Perfection!
Be the first to ReplyUnable to book
Bought an 'experience,' at £800, for my sons 50th in August. You can only book on the first of every month as they release dates. They haven't been able to book as all gone when you ger through even though constant dialling. I think there is something suspect going on. Wasted up to now.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing evening
The food was mediocre, but the wine was great. I booked The French Laundry for my husband’s birthday, and was disappointed. We had the chef’s tasting menu on 10/3/22, and it was beautifully plated, but the food was only ok. The ambiance was also not what I expected, as I felt we were shoved into a corner in a back alcove. It felt cramped and warm. My husband upgraded to the wagyu steak (which he enjoyed), and I got the lamb. I did not realize that it came dressed in curry, which I hate, and didn’t take a single bite. I was surprised that the woman who cleared my plate didn’t notice or ask why it was uneaten. I double checked that menu we had looked at earlier did not call out the curry. In addition to the food being mediocre, I was extremely surprised that the table next to us had a sparkler and cake for a birthday, but no one even acknowledged my husband’s birthday (despite me having put it in the reservation and mentioned it once we were seated). Overall this was a very disappointing experience for $1,500. I would not go back.
Be the first to ReplyNothing memorable
If I could rate zero stars, I would. This overpriced dinosaur is a tourist trap with unfriendly service, pretentious food from a generation ago, and a poorly executed shuffle of untrained children. I could not wait to leave. They offered us a kitchen tour, like that is some grand exclamation point, we passed. Save your money and go to Single Thread Farm. The French Laundry is in great decline. If this is a great restaurant, then American dining should be the laughing stock of the world. What an embarrassment
Be the first to ReplyDON'T GO TO THE TOURIST TRAP FRENCH LAUNDRY
The food is horrible, the pairing is worse. This is a tourist trap. You may spend about $1k for one dinner and you will be sorry. I come from the historic landmark restaurants of Wall St, I know. Don't get ripped off. Go to Silverado or Meadowood instead.
Be the first to ReplyWhat an experience
Although we went there for dinner, It can not be classified as a dinner. It was an experience. We had the Evolution Menu and a bottle of Opus 1985. It was not cheap but it was really worth it. We had an amazing time, the service was great. It was my wife’s birthday, at the end of the dinner they gave her a bottle of Champaign with her name and birthday labelled on it. Her name was also typed in on the top of the menu with the words Happy Birthday on there. A few little things made the difference. We had the opportunity of touring the kitchen. It was an extremely clean kitchen. With the kitchen being so clean I could not understand how all that food was coming out of there. Loved every minute of it.
Be the first to ReplyTop Notch!
From the moment we stepped inside their blue, front “side” door, we were greeted with warmth. Once we were seated outside for our 5pm reservation, we felt as if we were at a close friends’ beautiful and intimate backyard, being served by more friends. Of course every bite of the Chef’s Tasting Menu was delicious, but we were more entranced by how we were treated from beginning to end by our server Christina and all the staff, to Chef David in the immaculate kitchen, who greeted us like an old friend we hadn’t seen in a while, even though it was our first time meeting him. But my husband was especially delighted by all the attention he received from having just completed a half-marathon that morning and was able to share a few “runners highs and lows” with Chef David and other staff members who ran the race as well. Our three and a half hours at the French Laundry flew by, and we left the restaurant wanting more. We will return again and again with family and friends, since this amazing experience must be shared with all our loved ones.
Be the first to ReplyExceeded Expectations
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary this week at TFL. This was our second time dining at the restaurant; it was better than the first time and far exceeded our expectations. Inventive and delicious food serviced with warmth and precision. We had been gifted the dinner, which included pickup in the restaurant's BMW X7 from our hotel, as well as the restaurant's cookbook, personally signed to us by the chef himself. Kudos to Chef Keller and his management team for continuing to reinvent and execute at such extremely high levels. We understand that a material amount of staff retired or moved on during the pandemic. The team has done an absolutely incredible job bring a lot of new people on board and still continuing to provide extremely great service. We look forward to returning!

Food reasonable. Meat was less than bio grown but was clearly vegan based not bio sensitive. . Additionally, I introduced myself a beep bop but multiple times the waitperson misidentified me as beep boop. Not entirely affirming of identity.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent experience with expensive wine.
beautiful courtyard dinning. Food: classic 3 Michelin Star. Wine: high end wine list for billionaire. There is no medium price wine and no wine paring option. I gave them 4 star because the wine list and no wine paring offered. The cheapest bottle of wine is $150 and the average price in thousand

We enjoyed a wonderful evening at this exquisite restaurant together with friends. The food was unbelievable good in taste, texture and presentation with great variety along the set menu. The wine selection excellent ... although with some unfulfilled desire for more Napa wines to choose from. An incredible evening of super food, excellent service, talking to Thomas Keller and visiting the kitchen at the end of a wonderful evening. We will be back ...
