The food is spectacular. Got the tasting menu with wine pairing. The squid, cod and wagyu beef were fantastic. The food is beautiful and well presented. Overall great experience. Would highly recommend.
Came here with a couple of friends for dinner and
Came here with a couple of friends for dinner and absolutely loved it. The ambience the service and most of all the food is amazingly good. After having been disappointed with top end restaurants in Sydney I was not sure what to expect but, this place changed my perception from the first mouthful right through to the end. It was also the first time I have seen people present the dishes that looked the same but one was vegetarian. The mascarpone butter is divine here and probably the best butter I have had in Australia. We had three seafood courses, a meat course and two dessert courses with amouse and petit fours to start and finish the meal. The seafood courses were great and cooked to perfection. The roast pork was really good too with intense rich flavour. The dessert was just amazing and so tasty I had to lick my bowl ;-) the warm petit fours at the end were like the perfect end to an amazing meal. Service and food combined it's probably the best place in Sydney I have been to. Happily come here any day.
Another flawless restaurant since Sepia
The last flawless restaurant I visited like this one was Sepia which has sadly closed. Frankly, when I stepped foot into the restaurant, I was taken aback by the plain decor and setting. But then, the attention to detail of the whole evening experience did win me over completely in the end. Three snack dishes, three seafood dishes, one meat dish and two desserts each exhibiting delicate balance of flavours and cooking skills. Two sour dough bread was a bit of left field design and struck accord. I was so engaged with the experience that I forgot my standard end of meal ritual - the coffee.
Serious let down
This is an expensive, fixed-course restaurant. For the money, the customer is entitled to expect food that will sit up and make a statement, show flair and originality. Slabs of fish and meat just don't do that. While the quality of the ingredients was excellent, the dishes themselves often let the ingredients down. Japanese 'influences' are the current fashion in 'fine dining'. All very well if you have a well-grounded understanding of how these ingredients and touches operate to enhance flavours in Japanese cooking, otherwise you end up with an 'Hawaiian pizza' effect. The staff, while plentiful and attentive, were also forgetful (drinks ordered and not delivered) and rather cool in their manner (especially the females). Standing in a noisy room and muttering a list of ingredients, showing little concern for whether the customer is able to absorb the information, is second-rate. Greatly disappointed.
World Class
We came to Sixpenny on Thursday night for dinner. The meal was superb, and I would argue the best that I have ever tasted, and that includes Michelin rated restaurants and some of the best of London and Paris. Why do I say this? 1. The exceptional freshness of the various dishes. 2. The intensity of flavours. 3. The elegance of the components for each dish; not so many components as to overwhelm and a perfect marriage of ingredients which allowed for both the individual ingredient to shine while contributing to the synchronous result. 4. The elegant presentation of each dish. So many restaurants miss the mark by trying too hard to impress and fall into pretension. Sixpenny is simply elegant. The Spring Pea Tart with Whipped Goats Curd must take the prize for its stand-out burst of flavour and freshness. The Roasted Barley Koji Ice cream with Pear and Marsala was simply sensational. Thank you.
Unforgettable experience at a three-hatted restaurant in Sydney
Our first three-hatted dining experience here in Sydney, absolutely top-class food and service, also the portion is bigger than most fine-dining in Sydney, doesnβt feel like we spent 4 hours at the restaurant! Hope we can come back again, canβt wait!
One of the best in Sydney
Sixpenny is one of the best fine dining restaurants in Sydney for the finer taste. Although the venue is not big and looks already quite dated, but the service was superb although all tables were full. Most importantly the 6 courses of food served on the table tasted very good and finely seasoned. The presentation was not overly done like several other overrated venues with more emphasised on too much of gimmicky presentation but not tasting fine enough.

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to Sixpenny Stanmore at 6 PM the same day.
He checks the restaurant's website and sees that no reservations are available. He then looks at the Sixpenny Stanmore page on AppointmentTrader, but finds that there are no user postings either.
That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.
Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.
Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* ElaborateHouse74, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* ElaborateHouse74 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to ElaborateHouse74 for any questions Peter may have as ElaborateHouse74 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* ElaborateHouse74 now uses their connections at Sixpenny Stanmore to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If ElaborateHouse74 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, ElaborateHouse74 receives the $200 reward which is credited to ElaborateHouse74's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Sixpenny Stanmore!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
