Super Thai food
I can see (or taste) what the fuss is about They open for dinner at 6pm and by 530 there is a longish queue The staff are mostly thai. So the food is authentic. The boat noodles i had was very good indeed. Not as good as thongsmith in bangkok, the only difference being the noodles used. Samsen uses the transparent vermicelli which is too limp for me

Samsen definitely lived up to the hype. Super crowded in the evenings. However, once you get seated - get ready for some culinary delights. Visited both branches and tried a bunch of things off the menu - all were excellent. Recommend the boat noodles, crab fried rice and ommlette. Please note boat noodles only available in wan chai branch.
Be the first to ReplyNot a very pleasant experience
Walked in with a friend and just when we were seated by the bar kitchen, they presented the menu and pressed us to order straight away. It would have been nice if they’d inform us in the beginning that there is a time limit. The waitstaff were very aggressive keep coming to ask if we were done with our food. It was a very unpleasant experience being pushed to finish our meal in an hour. They can improve their service better!

Very good an freshly made food. Great team and a lot of local people. If there is a queue - just wait to be seated and have a drink while waiting. It’s worth waiting!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious and Fresh
Samsun is a must-visit in Hong Kong! We didn't have to wait long for a table and the service was excellent. The food was absolutely delicious and we couldn't resist trying their amazing fruit slushy. It was the perfect refreshment on a hot night. We're so glad we had the chance to experience Samsun. Highly recommended!

Samsen never disappoints. The food overall is of very good quality and always hits the spot. Some of the best dishes include the Wok Fried Wagyu Beef and the mamasan curry. Sadly they did not seem to have any chicken during our last visit which is why I went with a 4/5.
Be the first to ReplyDinner on a typhoon day
I’d been to Samsen a few times. I’m not a fan and don’t understand why there’s always a queue outside. I live very close to this highly popular restaurant. On my way home after going to the cinema when Typhoon Signal No. 9 was on, I noted the restaurant wasn’t full. I therefore decided to go inside for a quick dinner. I ordered: - the famous Wagyu beef boat noodles in soup - crabmeat omelette. The beef (slices, briskets and balls) and noodles were delicious but the soup was very salty. Crabmeat omelette tasted good too. Overall the flavour of the food was very strong. I was quite thirsty after my meal. Sitting at the bar on my own was so much more comfortable than sharing a table with some stranger(s).
Be the first to ReplyMichelin Thai food🍨
I had an early queue to eat at this Thai restaurant with my friends. This Thai restaurant has been awarded Michelin for 6 years in a row, so I had to queue up when I arrived at 8pm 😲 I waited for about 45 minutes to be seated first. Thai street coconut ice cream🥥🍨 The ice cream is packed in coconut shells, and the coconut flavor is very strong😍There is coconut meat inside. Corn and peanuts, the taste is good, and the sweetness is moderate👍🏻
Be the first to ReplyExcellent restaurant, don't be put off by the queue
Don't be put off by the fact that a queue is the first thing you see there. The wait is worth it. The restaurant is rather simply furnished. You are usually seated at a table with others (if there are two of you), but the staff are friendly and look after you while you wait. The menu is not large and there are similarities between some of the dishes. However, the dishes are clearly described and even if you are not familiar with the customs, you know what you will get when you order. The food was excellently seasoned and tasted delicious. Since some of the dishes are very spicy, it is advisable to choose carefully. I think it is difficult to be disappointed. I recommend just trying it out. On my two visits there, I varied the dishes and it was worth it. It was always a taste experience and a nice evening.

The real deal. Superb food at a good price - an all-round great experience. Thoroughly recommended: if you are in Hong Kong do go and try it .. but get there early !
Be the first to ReplySamsen leaves upto its reputation....
Samsen leaves upto its reputation, a restaurant which do not take reservations was a big risk for any restaurant during these times. we had to wait gor 50 minutes before we got the table being Thursday such a long wait was making me think is it worth it? the setup is very simple with small tables and stools. but the first bite cleared all my questions and answered all my doubts. a small menu but beautifully executed dishes. all the dishes we ordered were beautiful and portion sizes were amazing. I can say one thing that is "at samsen food speaks". taking nothing away from the service which was at par the girls were working hard but had smiles on there faces. all said and done I am visiting soon to taste your other masterpieces.
Be the first to ReplyBest Boat Noodles in Hong Kong
Samsen is a hugely popular restaurant that serves Thai street food in an upscaled restaurant. The restaurant does not take bookings, so either start queuing 30 minutes before the restaurant opens, or prepare to wait an hour or so for a table. For the Wanchai branch, their most popular dish has to be the Wagyu Beef Boat Noodle Soup which is hands-down the best boat noodles you can find in Hong Kong. Also popular is the Crabmeat & Spring Onion Omelette and Wok Fried Rice of Wagyu Beef. For dessert, the Pandanas Coconut Dumplings are to die for. The only downside is that the seating is very, very tight and you may have to share a table with other diners.
Be the first to ReplySaturday Night in Hong Kong
Well first thing to note is you can't book, and when we arrived there was a good sized queue outside a full restaurant. They did however take our number and gave us a shout when a table was available so had a nice aperitif at a nearby bar. The atmosphere was bubbling and everyone seemed to be having a great time. As we were seated the waitress carefully crossed out half the menu as they had sold out of some items. Good side to this is it proves everything is really fresh, bad side - if you were desperate for one particular dish tough luck. That said don't be put off - all of the food was amazing. I had a spicy wagyu beef that was simply the best I Thai dish i've ever had. The savoury Rotis were insanely brilliant.
Be the first to ReplyLovely boat noodles
Fabulous food and we loved all food here. Comparing to the Central branch, food is much better here - tho no cocktails. Boat noodle is a must have, and fried rice cannot be missed too!

Cozy and simple location. The food is poetic! Taste original thai with a twist. Staff is very friendly. We tried 6 different dishes and of them were above expectation.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced Boat Noodle
Samsen is a small but very popular Thai restaurant in Hong Kong. It doesn’t take lunch or dinner reservations. Tables will only be assigned when all guests of the same party have arrived. There are always customers at the door waiting to be seated. Servers are efficient. The soup base of the signature “Samsen Wagyu Beef Boat Noodle Soup” is very rich, overly sweet and super salty at the same time. While the noodle is al dente and the fried pork rinds are crispy, the wagyu beef is rather lean and tough. Although the set lunch comes with a selected drink, the portion is rather small for the price of HK$ 148 + 10%.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Thai Food Experience in Wanchai
Samsen was highly recommended by family and friends, who are Thai food fan. While I agree the price is on the high side, this is ultimately still Hong Kong, which is one of the most expensive cities in the world. My friend and I were here for lunch, as my friend wanted to sample its "Samsen Wagyu Beef boat noodle soup," which was flavorful. I have been craving Thai basil beef, and its "Chopped Wagyu Beef wok fried with chili" is the closest to it. It was delicious, well seasoned and as close as it to an authentic Thai dish. We also ordered the "fried marinated pork collar" starter, which was the best surprise. The flavor was great and it was just the right type of fried food to go with your cold beer. While it is definitely not "Thai" price, the food and the decor of the restaurant remind most Hong Kong people of Thailand, especially in the midst of another lockdown. It is worthy of a try. PS. Takeout is available but not the boat noodles.
Be the first to ReplyThai fusion food in Sheung Wan
Not far from Sheung Wan MTR. We arrived around 12.30pm without reservation. Luckily they had a table free and we were promptly seated. The restuarant was fairly busy. Most families and couples. We ordered a duck salad as starter, and as mains the beef fried rice and the curry chicken noodles. The food arrived very quickly. The duck salad was ok, but not our favourite. The mains were better. we had a coconut ice cream as dessert. The bill came to our table after 1 hour of us arriving, without us asking for the bill, so I guess their meal time is 60 mins. Our second visit, we been here last year as well so was back for a repeat. Meal price for 2 with 1 drink was around HKD550. Not bad. Worth a try. A busy restuarnt with prompt service

I have been meaning to go to Samsen for a long time now but never had the time to organise a trip. It is recommended you arrive at 11:45 to get a table without waiting too long. We were a group of 8. Each of us chose a different dish. Everyone was very pleased with their portions, platers and drinks. It’s a casual venue but buzzing and clean. The chef was easily able to adapt the pad Thai to a vegetarian version.
Be the first to ReplyOVERPRICED….
Delicious Thai cuisine coupled with a vibrant atmosphere. The staff was both very friendly and eager to accommodate. Wagyu over broth was very rich and flavorful. However the hard chair seating was very uncomfortable and music much too loud. Unfortunately, the dishes were honestly waaay OVERPRICED for what it is…
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Thai flare in HK!
Love the atmosphere and food here! Open kitchen with lots in action. Loved the spices of the food. The wagyu beef skewer were soooo good! Pad Thai was so-so - felt like it lacked the intense wok-flavour. Other dishes were decent. Service was unbeatable!
