Ristorante Da Ivo Venezia Reviews
Bravo to the Chef & Management
Had researched and found this to be one of the top rated restaurants in Venice. This place was supposedly made famous from George Clooney who frequents here and possibly proposed to his wife at the restaurant. It is small and off of one of the canals. Reservations are required because of the size and popularity. It did not disappoint! The staff was outstanding and so was the food. We ordered a caprese salad to start and enjoyed the house bread and olive oil. We went with the recommendation of the waiter on appetizers which were crab stuffed zucchini blossoms and roasted artichoke with cod mouse. Both were prepared to perfection. The artichoke with cod mouse was not something I would have normally ordered but it was full of flavor and unexpectedly good. We also had a few pasta dishes and dessert - all outstanding. Bravo to the chefs and management for creating an all around excellent experience.
great dinner spot in Venice
Booked this spot as a recommendation from the hotel. Nice restaurant tucked away from the most crowded areas. Very nice and intimate setting w cosy decor but probably not popular with the locals (filled w mostly US tourists). Food was excellent though with a good selection of wine. Service was very attentive and polite. Check out specials of the day.
Family from Boca raton Florida dinner
The food was amazing. Pasta was cooked to perfection, service was excellent. We had a mix up with reservations so they served us Bellinis as thank you. Very small and intimate. Would definitely go back.
Bad experience, tourist trap, rude servers, bland food.
Iโm giving this a 1 because the service here was horrible and they charged us an 18% service charge. They say thereโs 2 seatings, 7 and 9 pm. We walked up at 7 bc we noticed this tucked away restaurant while on our gondola ride. They had an open table but we needed to be done by 9:00. The food was just average- the pasta dish I had was not as fresh and delicious like other places. Like someone else said, the zucchini flowers had no flavor. There were a ton of specials and they read the waiter read thru them so fast and then acted annoyed when we asked him to repeat them. Some of the servers were nice but overall, bad service. I even told the waiter how rude he was as we were leaving - thatโs how strongly I felt. Also, when they brought the bill, they asked if we wanted to pay the service charge on the credit card. Stupidly, we didnโt ask how much it was and they charged us 18%. Definite tourist trap. Oh, and when we left at 9:00, no one was waiting to come in!
Delicious
Delicious food in a lovely setting. The staff is serious about their work but do a very good job. Worth a visit but you may need a reservation.
Overpriced
We had the Bronzino and the sliced beef fillet. We had the stuffed zucchini flower appetizer, which was tasteless. The Bronzino was bland. My sliced fillet was excellent. This restaurant is not worth the prices they charge. We had excellent meals at half the price at other restaurants.
Not as good as our previous meal here
Our meal was over $300 for a lunch that I considered not up to the standards of other meals I have had in Venice, especially for the price. The service was good, the meal mediocre. Wonโt go back. It was also filled with a tour group, which for a very small and expensive restaurant is unusual, but even though the room itself is lovely, it lost all sense of intimacy on account of the large group eating there.
Great food, great service
Food was amazing, every dish was better than the next. The service was very friendly. Quiet small little place. Great wine selection
Excellent!!
I was so excited to visit this restaurant whilst in Venice, when I read it was a favourite of George Clooney. There are mixed reviews on trip-advisor and I can honestly say, I wavered a little and wondered whether made the right decision to make a reservation for our first evening in Venice. Well, I am so glad I did - we loved it. Amazing food and service - it is well worth a visit.
This is a must visit restaurant in Venice.
Every dish was exceptional and the staff run the small location with ease. From the house bread and superb olive oil to the deep wine list, I loved it. I enjoyed a special - seafood lasagna and it was superb. Squid ink pasta, delicate seafood, super yum! For starters baby artichoke and crab salad - wow!
Excellent dinner
Da Ivo is an excellent restaurant. Capable service, excellent food. It was full when we arrived for our reservation at 21:30 but service and food quality was top-notch nevertheless. All the specials we ordered, as well as other menu choices were cooked spot-on. This is an excellent choice of restaurant in Venice in my opinion.
Delicious and great atmosphere
Darling restaurant. Had the risotto with cuttlefish - divine. Service was excellent and a charming setting. No wonder Clooney loves it! Very cool clothing store across the street. Highly recommend
You Will NOT Regret Finding This Gem
WOW! What a wonderful restaurant. It's small and off the main track (such as there is in Venice), but so worth a visit. Get a reservation. The food and wine were outstanding--a Tuscan oasis in the heart of Venice. Some patrons arrived and departed by gondola and water taxi from the door on the little canal; the service staff was exceptionally friendly and made wonderful recommendations. The walls are covered with drawings of and praise from celebs (ala Sardi's). We celebrated a friend's birthday, and everyone joined in the chorus. Don't miss the after-dinner "drink" of limoncillo, gelato, calvados, and maybe some prosecco--who can recall!

It was incredibly exciting to enter this restaurant from the water! What a special experience. It is a tiny, cozy restaurant inside. You are so close to others that you feel that they hear all of your conversation! While I remember the food being fine, I honestly can't remember anything standing out incredibly. And given the prices, that makes me sad. The service was snooty. I remember the managers arguing with us about our reservation, and we had confirmation of that reservation in writing. Still, they argued. I don't think that I would recommend this place to others or return. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items that were not memorable.
Wow - a special place
I wasn't too sure about this when I booked given the mixed reviews and the hype around George Clooney. I am so glad we went. We are foodies and have dined at some great places all over the world. This is one of the top 10 dining experiences ever in terms of food, service and ambience. The artichoke and crab starter, spidercrab pasta, truffle pasta and strawberries in vinegar particularly stood out. Classics like the tagliata di manzo were done to perfection. The staff were friendly and courteous with quintessential Italian warmth. I am definitely going back next time we are in Venice.
Great quality meal, not into celebrations.
Great quality meal in this smart little fine dining restaurant - everything was tasty and refined. Only disappointment was that I had informed them in writing and on the phone that it was my wife's 60th birthday, we even ordered Bellini's on arrival but no fuss or mention made at all?
I recently had a deeply disappointing encounter with
I recently had a deeply disappointing encounter with Ristorante da Ivo that left me utterly frustrated and bewildered. Having made a reservation well in advance and even provided my credit card information to secure the booking, I was excited to try out what I had heard was a good restaurant. Unfortunately, my experience turned out to be far from what I had anticipated. Upon arriving at the restaurant on the designated evening, my excitement quickly turned into confusion and embarrassment. The host looked at me with a puzzled expression when I mentioned my reservation and provided my name. After a brief consultation with a colleague, he informed me that there seemed to be an issue and that they were unable to accommodate me. To my astonishment, the host then casually mentioned that they had apparently sent me an email, which I was supposed to have received earlier in the day, notifying me about their inability to honor the reservation. I was taken aback - not only had I received no such email, but I had also provided my credit card details to secure the reservation, which made the situation even more perplexing. While I understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise in the restaurant industry, the lack of communication and professionalism on the part of the restaurant was deeply disappointing. It's inconceivable to me that they would take credit card information and confirm a reservation only to later claim they couldn't accommodate without any direct communication. What hurt the most was not just the inconvenience of finding an alternative dining option on short notice, but the manner in which the situation was handled. The staff's attitude lacked empathy and understanding, leaving me feeling like an afterthought rather than a valued guest. In the end, this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth, both figuratively and literally. I strongly advise potential diners to exercise caution when considering making reservations at this restaurant. The disregard for customer service and the lack of transparency in their operations are major red flags that overshadow any potential culinary delights the restaurant might offer. In the world of hospitality, trust, communication, and respect for guests are paramount. Regrettably, my encounter with this particular establishment highlighted a stark departure from these principles. As a result, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant based on my unfortunate experience.
Yuuuuum.
We ate here on a Tuesday night while on vacation in Venice. We were not able to use the water entry to the restaurant because of high tides but it was a pretty quick walk from the square. The restaurant itself has a cozy casual vibe and the service was very attentive. I got the burrata caprese and pasta with tomato and eggplant. The caprese was super simple but one of the best that I have ever had and the pasta was al dente perfection. My husband got the truffle pasta and the osso bucco and was equally as pleased. They capped of the end of the meal with tiny ice cream filled chocolates that were a delightful treat! Definitely make reservations and do not miss this restaurant!

Fantastic.
Very good food. Great ambience - very authentic. Wonderful daily specials & menu, great wine list. Staff are very attentive. Expensive but a wonderful experience. Definitely need a reservation.
Iโll make it brief โฆ..
Iโve been in Venice many times and I would advise think carefully about going to this restaurant. There is indeed much โhypeโ around Ivo but it is not welcoming to all and the food is so much more expensive than other restaurants and really only average quality. On this trip it was my worst meal in Venice. You really can do far better. We like to eat out, indeed do not mind paying above the odds, but we left here feeling โripped offโ in every sense. There was nothing special about this restaurant at all. There was a bad atmosphere, and the staff were arrogant and unwelcoming. We witnessed one of the waiters being incredibly rude to one poor man when he was not giving his 100% attention to the specials being read out from the blackboard. Perhaps it was because he was wearing a polo shirt? We will never know, but he was ordering oysters and many of the more expensive items on the menu. Surely his money is as good as anybody elseโs? There are some fabulous โoff the beaten trackโ restaurants in Venice, do your research and read reviews. If
Very average, don't understand the hype
When passing by on a gondola, we were told that Da Ivo was a "famous" restaurant. We double-checked with a local, and she confirmed that the restaurant had a good reputation and high prices. We ate lunch here and were completely underwhelmed. Being kind, we would rate the food as average. The service was also average. We watched as they received tourists, and depending upon the tourists' appearance, the waiters' greetings varied. To one casually dressed mother and son, they informed them that there was a two-course requirement, and scared them off by showing the overpriced menu. A glamorous-looking couple was seated with charm. This is not the authentic, charming, high-end that it holds itself out to be. Possibly trading on it old merits. Walk on by, there are much better places for your stomach and wallet.
Never disappointed!
We have been to Da Ivo many times. We have never had a bad or disappointing meal and service is always excellent. This evening we enjoyed another excellent meal of Granseola Crab, Scampi Fritti and a Duck pasta, followed by the best Sgroppino in Venice. "Sgropin means to untie a small knot." This lovely, old Venetian concoction is made with (a good!) lemon sorbet, Prosecco and vodka, but Da Ivo adds a little Calvados too...then slowly whips it to a frosty froth and serves it. And it unties that little knot you have from eating too much! And excellent way to end an excellent meal. Da Ivo is worth the price. Reservations are a must! (Lunch is good too!)
Restaurant Da Ivo is a world-famous Italian restaurant
Restaurant Da Ivo is a world-famous Italian restaurant located on a canal in the San Marco neighborhood of Venice. It is owned and operated by the charismatic Giovanni Fracassi, whose restaurant is small, intimate, and elegant. We had appetizers of octopus and beef carpaccio, spaghetti bottarga, and paccheri pasta with fresh cherry tomatoes followed by the Bistecca Florentine. The food was prepared to perfection and delicious. Highly recommended. Reservations required.
Overpriced for underwhelming food
This restaurant looks luxurious from the outside, there is even access possible via a gondola boat. There are lots of impressive looking waiters walking around but a glimpse in the kitchen showed a non Caucasian in the kitchen. Itโs definitely not food cooked by Italians. The zucchini flowers I ordered came very oily and with surimi nits instead of real crab meat as advertised. The fish I had was an unidentifiable kind that tasted bland. Dessert was fine with red berries. But then it would be difficult to go wrong with fresh fruit. The food is totally overpriced and a whopping 15% is added to the bill (which was indeed mentioned in the menu), however it is illegal in Europe, as all advertised prices are supposed to be vat and service inclusive. I guess we are in Venice. Itโs the one city in Italy where the food is systematically bad and overpriced. Thank god the beauty of the city makes it still worth the visitโฆ
Food was ok.
Not great , service not so good waiters lazy, resturant also was dirty.Location in the city great
