La Sommeliere Lyon Reviews
Small but beautifully formed
This tiny (only eight covers) husband and wife owned restaurant well deserves its Michelin star. Exquisite food, with a Japanese touch that reflects the owners’ origins, served in a pleasant, old town room with excellent service. Without repeating all the detail in other reviews, we fully endorse all the praise that has been heaped on La Sommeliere . We would return.
What a phenomenal way to celebrate our 52nd Wedding Anniversary!
I have always been AMAZED at how Takafumi has always sourced the finest freshest ingredients. Then magically he blends them to take them from individual things to magical inspirations. Our first amuse for my wife was white asparagus mousse with sunflower seeds. My amuse was the same but with ham added. The white asparagus was so tender and delicious. The ham was also cut from a perfect slice. My wife’s next course was salmon with peas and mine was scallops, mussels and clams. Both had a chicken bouillon base. Next for my wife was green asparagus and a hot spring egg in a Hollandaise sauce. The green asparagus was so fresh and sweet. The Hollandaise sauce helped wrap and complete the dish. My dish included pork noir de bigarre. Unbelievable combination. Our fish course was sea bass. Not only sea bass but the “BEST” perfectly cooked that I have ever had! Mine included langoustine, both in a watercress sauce. Wonderful dish and combinations. My next course was Pyrenees milk fed lamb, Espelette pepper in tomato sauce. My wife had beef substituted for the lamb. I had the cheese course. Included was Swiss Gruyère, Italian creme with ginger, and French Bruyere. Each were very delicious. First dessert was apple, custard cream infused with Thyme. Light and perfect combination. Next dessert was strawberry, white chocolate with verbena. Both desserts were fabulous. Takafumi is brilliant at his craft from beginning to end. Shoko, takafumi’s wife takes care of the front of the “house”. She is so wonderful at her job. She never misses a beat. They only seat 8 people maximum. She has great wine knowledge and helped me select MEURSAULT BFPELLATION MEURSAULT CONTROLEE 2018 DOMAINE DES COMTES LAFON CLOS DE LA BARRE 2IIDO MEURSAULT FRANCE HISS EN BOUTETLE A LA BRO8R注D Which went perfectly with each of the courses. We finished the whole bottle. They serve the wines in Rydel glasses. Shoko poured and kept them at the right level all night long. They also offer wine pairing option with great wines at very reasonable prices. They, without telling us served an Anniversary cake to help us celebrate our anniversary. The ambiance is so elegant in a romantic way. The service and food is impeccable. We come here every time that we come to Lyon. We build our trip around coming here. If you live here do yourself a favor and book in advance so that you can get a seat.
