La Fontaine de Mars Paris Reviews
Deserves 10 stars
This was the most fabulous lunch we had in Paris. The food was just fantastic, the drinks also. The staff were so welcoming and helpful and the decor is beautiful, it is a proper traditional French bistro. We were given the most beautiful plate of meat and bread to start, my partner had the best steak she's ever eaten, I and chicken and potatoes and green beans. Everything was so Fresh and cooked perfectly. Cannot wait to go back, please go here if you are in Paris, you won't regret it!!
Cute little restaurant! I'm glad we stopped here.
I got the escargot. There were some rocks in two of them... it really surprised me as I bit into the snail. The steak tartare was the best out of the two we tried in two different restaurants. It had a good mouth feel. The waiter was nice as well, patiently explaining the specials of the day that were written in French. They also brought out bread and saucisson. The bread was perfect to dip into the butter from the escargot.
Worst dining experience of my life
Worst dining experience of my life. First they couldn’t find my reservation to seat us even though half of our party was already seated. Then we found ourselves at a table in an alley with no covering and exposed to traffic. We were told they only get one our two cars per hour, it was more like one or two per minute and they were only inches away from our chairs. Started to rain for which we had no protection from, unlike all the other outdoor dining they had. And then a full size trash truck pulled up to us with a swarm of bees that we couldn’t get rid of. And let’s not forget about the dive bombing pigeons we had to deal with that made my grand daughter scream so loud everyone in the area stared at us. We were done and walked out of there.

This was our first dining out experience in Paris as it was highly recommended. While the location and ambiance is wonderful, we were very disappointed in the service and food. Our waiter was clearly irritated that we did not speak much french. There is also an expectation of at least one entree/person - so sharing a meal was not an option. And the meals were very expensive, and in our opinion not worth the cost. While it may be a good spot for locals, it did not seem tourist friendly and I would not recommend.
Very pleasant lunch with my family
Our family lunch at La Fontaine de Mars was a quintessential Parisian experience that exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about the food and service.

We've been in this bistro a number of times over the years, most recently in May, 2025. The food is classic Bistro style, We've done inside mostly, outdoors on occasion. We'll go back anytime.
Great spot
Very delicious meal. Neighborhood delightful . Near the Eiffel Tower but no view of the tower. Staff was very nice and friendly.
Fontaine de Mars
Beautiful location near the Eiffel Tower. The Crème Caramel was delicious. My confit of duck was very tasty. House wine was good
Touristy Average at Best
All tourists in a precooked, french food machine. Everything sounds great - but tastes rewarmed at best. Charming decor, but don’t even think of sharing! The menu warns that every customer is expected to order their own main course. Totally average and fine, but a bit of a waste in Paris if you actually love good food.
Disappointing
Arrived on time for a reservation and waited over 20 minutes for seating. Americans all seemed to be shoved into a room upstairs that was not the same atmosphere as the downstairs rooms. Waiter was slow- he took over 30 minutes to return to take our order when we were not quite ready immediately upon seating. The food is honestly average to below average. When the bill came, there was a request for tip at the botton. after we declined that, the waiter told us we can leave a cash tip if we appreciated his service. I am told that it's actually illegal in france to request a tip verbally. Either way- i Would not return here and would not suggest for anyone to waste a meal in Paris on this place.
incredible food, charming menu and atmosphere.
excellent service. my favorite restaurant in the world
We were here 33 years ago.
Just stumbled into the place. This time we intentionally came here to relive old memories. So nice to find the same place same ambiance. Nothing had changed. Our server was excellent. Helped us with the menu. Spoke English in that delightful French accent. The food was amazing as we remembered it. Ordered the duck again. So tasty. Very glad we came back.

The chicken with mushrooms was absolutely delicious and the side of green beans was fresh picked and perfectly prepared. However, the service was not great. We arrived when the restaurant opened, they were not busy just then, yet we waited 25 mins for a menu and a glass of water. First a waiter came over, then a waitress took our order, service was very spotty and inconsistent. Menu is interesting, some unusual dishes which might be desired by some, not by others.
service was fantastic.
our waiter was polite, accommodating and funny. food was overall pretty good. our only complaint was some of the portion sizes seemed small. the drinks were fantastic. ambiance was nice, good patio seating and indoor seating looked plentiful!

The last night we were in Paris we were wandering the streets with no dinner plans and luckily stumbled across this restaurant. They got us to a table within 20 minutes. It was the best meal I had in Paris... the morel mushrooms and sauce were so flavorful on top of the chicken and rice. The server was charming and took the time to talk to us even though the restaurant was busy. It felt like a true French restaurant with red and white tablecloths and servers in what looked like tuxedos without the jackets. There were heaters outside so we were comfortable despite the cold October, rainy weather. Instead of bread for the table we got thin slices of traditional, hard sausage that I could just love off of!
Nice selection of menu options and wine by the glass.
Entree (appetizers) are quite small and for one person only. The sole meuniere was fantastic, liked all our food.

If you are planning on touring around the Eiffel Tower and are looking for authentic French cuisine, look no further... The inside is very inviting and is marvelously decorated. The menu is delightfully elegant with many different French dishes. The restaurant offers daily specials as well . For appetizers I tried the Country ham prosciutto platter , the prosciutto is sliced with a very specific meat slicer that is located on the lower level of the restaurant. The slices were razor thin. I also tried Wild Snails of Burgundy. Simply amazing! For a main course I recommend the Grand Cassoluet special . A meaty stew of poultry, sausage, pork, and beans. The presentation was incredible. It was so tasty, filling and delicious. This dish was my favorite meal of my trip to France. Dessert I recommend is the Millefeuille - hazelnut, praline and whipped cream served in an ice cream type dish. Heaven just Heaven!! The service here was impressive. Our waiter could not have been more You MUST make a reservation.

I called to make a reservation and since that call, the service is excellent. The restaurant is very well located. We asked to be seated outside and it's a great spot. As appetizers we ordered the vegetable carpaccio with goat cheese, and it was delicious! My husband had the escargot and he loved them. The wine recommendation is on point. We had a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.

This place was a redemption from other disappointing French restaurants in Paris. Great ambience, excellent leek appetizer, and very good Sea Bream and chicken mushrooms.
Wonderful!
We had a fabulous evening dinner at La Fontaine de Mars! Wonderful service, ambience, and food in a beautiful Parisian precinct. Would definitely go there again.
Friendly service, disappointing experience and food
Our meal started off well the staff were very friendly and accommodating in finding us a table without a reservation. However they were clearly understaffed that day, the food took well over an hour to arrive, it was difficult to track anyone down and they forgot one of the items. When the food did arrive it was very disappointing. The fries were tasteless and soggy and the salmon was cold so we sent it back. They clearly put it in the microwave because it came back very quickly hot and dried out. They then forgot to take sparkling water we never received off the bill. We could hear our neighbours at the table next to us also having a poor experience and left after their starters. For the prices especially there are far better restaurants in Paris.
Amazing food and desserts were out of this world!
Stopped by the restaurant with my teen for a light supper. We normally get a heavier dinner, but we had a full day at the Versailles, and we're not in the mood to indulge ourselves with more amazing food. We did not have any reservations and arrived early just after the restaurant was opened for dinner. The restaurant was already busy. We were not dressed up. The staff did not judge us and gave us a table. We ordered one of the specials such as Tomates Burrata and Blanc de Poireaux (steamed leak in herb sauce), which were just appetizers. We were so impressed of those two appetizer dishes. It was absolutely fascinating how those dishes were prepared to perfection and were done in most delicious way. I never thought that leak could be transformed to something so magnificent. For desert, we had Creme Brulee and Ile Flottante (floating island). Both were scrumptious. It was our first time trying Ile Flottante, and it was one of the best desserts we had. The service was very fast and the staff was very friendly. We were completely full from the two items each. The menu consists of amazing dishes that are worth coming back for. The restaurant is clean and the food was amazing. My teen was very impressed (and it is hard to impress teenagers). Loved the place and highly recommend it for any occasions.
Birthday trip
I'm sorry to have to write a poor review but this restaurant was very dissapointing. Reviews I had read were good & we decided to try it. Im afraid the food was very poor for the price they are charging. Presentation & flavour should be so much better in this authentic French restaurant. We shared a buratta starter, which had no flavour, just lumpy tomatoes, buratta & tasteless pesto 🤔! Duck & 2 meat stew were our main courses.... Duck & polenta - no veg, presentation awful. Stew was absolutely tasteless... A bit of garlic & soft herbs would have done wonders to the flavour. Very bad bitty side of fries for €8😳. Our waiter was very pleasent & the restaurant is really nice, just unfortunately the food let this place down
Highlight of our trip prior to Eiffel Tower visit
La Fontaine de Mars is truly an outstanding restaurant and the highlight of our recent trip to Paris. The wine pots offer a fantastic deal and one standout dish was the roasted duck breast served with creamy polenta. The attention to detail in both presentation and flavors at La Fontaine de Mars is remarkable, making it a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in fine French cuisine in a welcoming and charming setting.
Great service and great food
Great service and great food. Typical French brasserie near the Eiffel Tower with red and white checkered tablecloths. I liked the bread and saucisson sec they gave us as we perused the menu. I had cassoulet which was delicious, the veal was wonderful . Recommend this restaurant
Great place to eat after a morning at Eiffel Tower.
The service was amazing and the food very nice. We had white fish and salmon and both were tender and flaky. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the street views.
Definitely worth visiting if you are ever in Paris.
The wait staff was really professional and courteous, extremely attentive. The food was top drawer, definitely worth the price. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends that enjoy fine dining.
Best meal we have had in Paris.
Is it pricey? Yes. Worth every euro? Also yes. Service was kind for this American non French speaking couple. The outdoor as well as indoor seating is lovely and service is timely. The food was so good. We had a morel mushroom appetizer special, the Sunday special roasted chicken and the duck confit. All delicious. Thanks to fellow Yelper who recalled this was an Obamas date night location!
A gem just 8 minutes from Eiffel Tower
A great Sunday meal with the family. Very quality food with good service and dessert to die for. A lovely specials board which had some creative twists on traditional French food. I would put it as a 4.5 star as the one drawback being that the seating is incredibly tight inside, and they could afford to space out the tables. Otherwise quality food quality service.
Omg what a lovely restaurant, classic French.
We sat outside on the wonderful veranda. Service and our meal was all spot on! My Poulet was delicious, perfectly cooked. Great location, just 10 a minute walk to Eiffel. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Authentic French cuisine
Love the food, service was great. They were very sensitive to possible food restrictions. We had the steak, done perfectly medium, duck was oily but tasted good and the escargot was 👍👍👍.
It's a pretty good place.
The food is decent and the service was really good. The desserts stood out.

La Fontaine de Mars represents the gold standard in high-end bistro dining; here you'll find all of the tantalizing classics. Expensive but well worth it. The Obamas went here on a date night during a state visit. In the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.

Great food and good service! Reservation recommended! Try the snails and a bottle of wine.

Returning from the Rothko at the Vuitton, I headed straight for this oasis of calm and authenticity. The choices were difficult until the waiter directed me to the carte de jour. Much appreciated. I relaxed in a nook for two with a fine view of the dining room bric a brac. Promptly he presented the daily special of braised beef cheeks with a glass of Brouilly. It was as good as I imagined it could be. That hour was a highlight of my trip.
