Meh, Thai Food in a Noisy Shopping Mall
The title of this review sums it up. This restaurant is serving mediocre Thai food, in a very noisy environment attached to a shopping mall. On the plus side, service was very quick so we were able to escape and under an hour.
Be the first to ReplyGenuine Thai Experience at an Affordable Price
This restaurant ticks all the boxes for Thai food in Canberra. We noticed that there were more Thai diners than Aussies, which was a good sign. When 7 pm came around, the place was packed on a misty mid-week night. So it pays to book, even though that has to be by phone. We ordered the Set 1 for two people. That meal consists of three starter courses and three mains, plus a large bowl of white steamed rice. That was way too much for two of us to eat, even though it was advertised for two. We were well satisfied after the three starters and one mains. However, the wait staff were very happy to provide us with three containers to take home what he could not eat, plus a bag to carry the three containers in. Every course of the food was excellent in quality and presentation. However, we didn't like being given the three main courses together while we hadn't even eaten our last starter course. We were given the impression that they like a quick turn-around of diners. The wait staff were friendly, hard-worked but not as trained as we would have liked. For example, when I ordered a beer for me and a sparkling water for my wife, we were given relevant bottles with two glasses, both of which contained ice blocks and a straw! When I ordered a bottle of wine later, and asked my wife to do the tasting (as I hadn't finished my beer) the waitress was so confused by this that she just put the bottle on the table, put the screw-cap back on, and left. The price of the meal was very reasonable, given the excellent quality. When we eat at this restaurant again, we will order one starter and one mains with rice, wine or beer, which would make the meal even cheaper. That would make a very classy meal at a price that not many restaurants in Canberra could match. If the weather is favourable, we would prefer a table outside as the inside is so noisy that a couple sitting on opposite sides of the table have difficulty hearing each other. Also for that reason, dining early (say 6 pm) is preferable.
Be the first to ReplyMore like a cafe experience than a restaurant.
Very average experience. The food was nothing to rave about. The roti bread tasted so stale we could not eat it. Sizzling beef was tasteless and some of it quite tough. We felt like we were pushed along. It is so noisy inside. Overall very disappointing experience.

Saturday night dinner, the food was delicious. The green chicken curry was absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended.

A little tip if you going to close soon don't invite customers into dine. Deliver the mains before the entrees forget to provide water then bring the bill over while we are still eating. A terrible experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Restaurant
Great food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Portions were large and a great selection on the menu. Highly recommend. Maybe book as we were fortunate to walk in and get one of the last free tables !!
Be the first to ReplyFast, delicious
Recently attended Kinn Thai in the Canberra CBD, I had booked a table for 2, the staff on the phone were extremely friendly and helpful! Upon arrival, staff promptly greeted us at the door and escorted us to our table, we were seated in the middle of the room close to the bar, the decor was fun and inviting, and the restaurant was pumping with many guests After a short wait (just enough time for us to decide what to order) staff greeted us at the table and requested our order. We ordered 2x ciders, and satay chicken skewers for an entree, almost instantly after the staff selected our order on their ipad the food and drinks arrived. The chicken was extremely tender, satay sauce was delicious and the serving size was great, 8 skewers. Up next the main attraction; we ordered a chicken Pad Thai, and a green curry with steamed rice, again this food came out very fast, presentation was delightful and the taste even better Highly recommend Kinn Thai if you are looking for a fast easy night out with incredible food The only downside I see is due to the restaurant being largely windows and hard surfaces the sound does not absorb, so when busy can make for a loud experience, but thatโs all part of it right

always go there when eating with friends! regular customer, nice place and environment, recommended to all!
Be the first to ReplyWhy the rush.??
We were queued in the cold, even though we had booked and there were plenty of spare tables. Not a warm welcome! Before we even entered the restaurant we were told we needed to leave within an hour and a half. Ok sure. On sitting again we were told it was a 90 minute booking. Our friends daughter unexpectedly joined and we asked if it was possible to add an extra seat..well yes but โif you leave within an hour and fifteen minutesโ not even a drink offered and now the timeframe had reduced! No menus. The food was great but the constant rush! We got presented the bill before our 90 minute โdeadlineโ.. by which time the restaurant was basically empty so it is not as if people were queuing for tables! Bill was not brought to the table โpay as you leaveโ. Overall, great food but a less than enjoyable experience due to the pressure to eat and leave.

Last minute booking for a Sunday night dinner - didn't take long before it was full. Service was attentive and friendly. Great menu selection. We shared the crispy barramundi and the sizzling beef. Both serves were generous and full of flavour. Plenty more dishes to tempt me when I return.
Be the first to ReplyBest Thai in Canberra
I would say this might be the best Thai Restaurant in Canberra. It does cater for the local palate as the heat is much lower than that in Thailand, but still full of flavour. Get in quickly as they turn around their tables regularly at night with at least two seatings.
Be the first to ReplyLeft hungry
The portions have become significantly smaller and lacking in quality. We paid over 100 dollars for our meal but were left still hungry. Not somewhere we would love to return to.
Be the first to ReplyA big worm in our noodles
Our noodles had a big worm which canโt go unnoticed. And staffโs response was - it happens. It was sickening to look at, and complete put us off. Never going back here again.
Be the first to ReplyA Good Thai
There is good inside and outside seating. If the weather is ok I would consider outside because the inside is quite loud. Service was good and food and drinks were delivered quickly. We shared a range of dishes from the crispy egg plant for starter to pork belly and a couple of chicken dishes for mains. All the dishes were tasty and I would recommend it as a good option for Thai in the city.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible
Canโt believe the rating this restaurant has. Our experience was terrible in every respect. We tried to book only to find that the phone number didnโt connect and we received an automated message saying the message bank was full. Used Google maps to find the restaurant only to find it took us two blocks away. Finally arrived at the restaurant to be told we must finish our meal within an hour as they close early on Sunday. The restaurant was exceptionally noisy - decor of glass, wood and tiles never absorbs the sound of many diners. The wait staff were more interested in getting the tables ready for the next day rather than taking our order. Ordered an entree of crab and prawn roll - tasteless. Two mains - massaman curry which arrived tepid and was sent it back to the kitchen to be heated up properly; and a very flavourless Pad Thai. An exceptionally disappointing dinner.

We loved our first visit. Tasty food, friendly staff, quick serving and reasonable price. Inside is spacious and bright. Very nice atmosphere. We fully enjoyed the meal.

An excellent Thai restaurant that provides a delicious range of meals, essential to book, very worth visiting.
Be the first to ReplyGreat value and almost an 'Excellent' rating
I dined twice at Kinn Thai Canberra over the period of three nights while in Canberra for business. My party of three were unanimous in their agreement that the food was tasty, filling and very good value. The wine selection was also appropriate. Our only concern was that when it came to paying the bill, there was no provision to split it, which in the case of our party would have been a) extremely easy, and b) cost the staff any tip we were going to pay. The person processing the account was immovable on the issue and this meant that the overall rating in this review in dropped to 'Very Good'. Come on Kinn Thai, get with the times and show some common sense and flexibility! Overall, recommended so long as you know you can't split the bill.
Be the first to ReplyBook a table in advance
Visited on a wet Wednesday evening and for midweek it was packed. We had not booked a table, so had to Line up to wait for a table to become available. This only took about 10 minutes. Despite the busyness, we were served promptly, there was another a long wait time to receive and our meals and they were delicious. Some of the best Thai food I have eaten in a really long time.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Thai cuisine
Went on a Friday night (booked). Place was full. The service was efficient despite the full house. The food was excellent and there was something for everyone on the Set menu we chose!!
Be the first to ReplyIncredible Thai Food
We were in Canberra and walked around looking for a venue for dinner.
As we love Thai food and were familiar with this Thai franchise we decided to dine here. We didnt book and there was a line on Friday night but we didnt have to wait long for a table. It wasnt the same on Saturday night as I tried tro book around lunch time for dinner and they were already fully booked. Lesson learned and do book in advance.
Based on the crowd it was probaly the most popular CBD restaurant in Canberra.
Meals my wife and I shared included prawn and crab spring roll, grilled beef, prawn fried rice and orange duck. We enjoyed every mouthful.
Highly recommended Thai restaurant in Canberra.
Love the duck dish and stir fries
love the soft shell also. the duck menu we really like, some stir fries are great and generous. chicken menu not so much but the beef black pepper is great.
Be the first to ReplyUnpleasant service - ok food
I called for an early dinner booking and was told over the phone we would have to leave by a certain time (1 hour time frame). I said that was fine as we were all driving back to Sydney after dinner anyway so leaving early suited us perfectly.
I arrived early (to make sure we could order straight away and leave on time). In the first 10 minutes, I had 3 staff members come to tell us that we have to leave by a certain time (one of them even said a later time which I had to correct). It felt a bit patronising and it was starting to be a bit frustrating.
We ordered our food promptly (they kept bugging us). The food took a while (especially the child's meal). We ate quickly. Fifteen minutes before our time was up, they shoved the bill in our face. At this stage, we hadn't even received all our dishes. Like I said, we were aware that we had limited time to eat (they reminded us enough) and we appreciated this. However, we felt it was a bit of an overkill and it was actually quite rude.
The meal was ok (nothing to rave on about) but the bad service left a bad taste in our mouth.
Oh yes. And we did leave on time. 5 minutes before our time was up too.... They really didn't make us feel very welcomed.
Disappointing lunch
The Massaman Beef was tasteless with mashed potato!
The Chili Chicken Stir fry was minced chicken with few vegetables. Iโve never had this dish this way. Both meals were unnecessarily oily
We loved the food
Great food
Food came quickly and enjoyed by all
Meal suited all the tastes from spicy to not spicy
Front of house staff could lighten up a bit
