Halls Chophouse Charleston Reviews
Starting my review with the service.
.. Brian was incredible!!!! Food also 5 out of 5 Ambience 5 Blew us away from every aspect even with everyone we know recommending halls the bar couldn't have been set higher walking in....it still beat it. MUST get the prime rib and creamed corn! Do not skip either!
The best of Charleston ~ 5 star experience!
Halls Chophouse is an all around 5 star dining experience! First off, upon entering the restaurant we were immediately greeted by Mr. Hall himself. Yes, the owner shook our hands, introduced himself, and even took a moment to talk to us and learn it was my daughterโs birthday. He was hands down one of the nicest people we met in Charleston, and if southern hospitality had to be defined by a picture, it would be a photo of Mr. Hall! Additionally, no less than 6 restaurant employees also took the time to come up and greet us. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and very sweet! A manager even came to the table and brought us champagne from Mr. Hall to celebrate my daughterโs birthday! The steaks and sides were flavorful and prepared to perfection! Iโve never had a better steak anywhere! The deserts were also delicious! I would definitely put Halls Chophouse at the top of the must go to restaurants in Charleston list!
Birthday Dinner
Good but not great. Seated promptly, greeted by server almost immediately. Cocktails were delicious as usual. Two issues that made evening not as special as past visits. 1. Awkwardly long time gap between salads and entrees. 2. The Tomahawk was very ordinary. Cooked properly but not flavorful at all. Experience won't keep me from going back, hope if was just an off night!
Always a wonderful time.
As usual, a wonderful experience. Billy and Nick were more than gracious. Genuine Southern hospitality and keeping up the family tradition.
Halls in Greenville is much better.
Food, ambiance at Charleston location isn't worth the money.
July 17, 2024 We were a party of 4.
Arrived at 4:30pm and were seated right away. Our waitress was wonderful! Steaks were prepared as requested. The Caesar salad was great! Our Manhattans were one of the best I've had. They treated my 10 year old nephew with dignity and respect. They were kind enough to show him the kitchen. It was an amazing evening. Perfect doesn't do this Justice.
If you're into premiere steakhouses, Halls is a MUST visit!
We booked Halls Chophouse well before even coming to Charleston because of its reputation of being a world class steakhouse, and it lived up to the hype! Fantastic staff with top notch steaks. Everything was amazing including the side dishes and we tried 3 of the additional sides of sauces for our steaks which were also incredible. We got the bearnaise sauce, house Worcestershire and my favorite, the peppercorn-brandy. Our waiter Brian was very personable and spent a lot of time with us and answered our questions in detail. He really knows the product the restaurant is offering. Without question, one of the best dining experiences my family has ever had!
A Must Stop Restaurant
Absolutely 11 out of 10 stars. Not only was this Gospel Brunch a special 60th bday celebration for me- but it was probably the most delicious lobster quiche brunch entree I have ever had. Then add in the exceptional southern charm customer service and you can not go wrong here. I would like to shout out our waiter Brian; he not only brought my unbelievable chocolate birthday cake with a candle to go because I said I was too full- but he even brought my daughter the recipe for the famous pop-overs. Fantastic! And to the Gospel singersโฆ I canโt thank you enough for that special touch. I canโt wait to recommend so others can share in this experience
I'm actually excited to be writing this review.
Just left Hall's and had the best restaurant experience I've had in a very long time, and this is coming from someone who spent more than half their life in the industry. Service was amazing, the steak was a true 45 day aged piece of beef, the bartender asked which section of the rib I wanted depending on my preference, they offered me split sides and apps so that I could try more of the food while dining by myself. Everything ordered blew me away. Dry aged ribeye, creamed corn, Caesar salad... broccolini is the only thing I'd maybe skip next time. Good drinks, good people sitting at the bar... it's these experiences that remind me the industry isn't totally dead and put a smile on my face. One or maybe both of the owners checked in on me while I was there and when I left the bar to realize it was pouring out, one of the hostesses offered me an umbrella to take with me so I didn't get soaked. Unbelievable. I'd be a regular if I wasn't visiting from NY. The nyc steakhouse legends should be taking notes out of your book.
Food excellent.
Setting very good. Service is unbelievably great. Special dinning for sure and we will be back.
My family and I enjoyed our first experience at Hall's
My family and I enjoyed our first experience at Hall's during our vacation this week. All I can say is WOW, what an experience it was! There are so many great restaurants in Charleston, but for me this was easily the best meal I've ever had in the area and possibly ever...anywhere. The dry aged ribeye was simply the best steak I've ever had. The entire staff ensured our meal was perfect, it just doesn't get any better in terms of service. A special shout out to Raidy (hope I have spelled this correctly), who went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was perfect. He was so professional, knowledgeable and courteous. He provided excellent recommendations from the wine, steaks to sides. Looking forward to visiting Hall's again during our next visit to Charleston!
Treat yourself to a great experience
This was the best steakhouse dining experience we have ever had. (Period) We had reservations for 6:00 on a Tuesday. We arrived early at 5:30. The owner greeted us as we entered the restaurant and we were immediately seated in a beautiful upstairs dining room. The house 434 pineapple martini was perfect. This place is probably the best restaurant in Charleston. It is expensive, but worth it. All the positive reviews are for real. Enjoy. Thank you to Billy Hall and the staff.
Great steak martini! Highly recommend trying happy hour.
I've been to several locations and enjoyed them all.
An amazing meal and impressive service.
When we got home we raven received a personal note from our server! Wow!!!
Wow Wow Wow! High end steak house with exceptional food
Wow Wow Wow! High end steak house with exceptional food and service. Yes it's expensive but it is totally worth it! You are either met at the door by the owner who introduces himself or he comes around to your table. Truly professional and so proud of his restaurant. The servers are on top of their game too, ours was Josh and he was perfect with a great personality as well! There were 6 of us, we all had salads, appetizers, steaks, desserts, specialty cocktails and 2 1/2 bottles of wine. Our final bill with tip was a little over $1600 but I'd do this again in a heartbeat! If you want a truly fine dining experience while in Charleston you must go to Halls Chophouse.
Love this place! Live in DC which has some great steak
Love this place! Live in DC which has some great steak places, however everytime I come to Charleston I go to halls! Hands down one of the best places to eat in the town. Great grass fed filet, all the sides are dynamite especially the corn casserole. Go to halls!
7 Star Steakhouse!
What a steakhouse. By far the best ive been to. Everything was first class and the staff were exceptional. Special mention to our server Mark, whose knowledge of everything on the menu (including wines) was exceptional. Made my 50th birthday celebration meal a fantastic experiance. am looking forward to returning.
Best steak in Charleston
Epic, World Class Restaurant. Service is second to none. Ms.Paige was attentive and very knowledgeable. The entire staff was very welcoming. The Owner Billy Hall could not have been more gracious.True Southern Hospitality at its finest.
What a fabulous dining experience!
Start to finish, we had a wonderful experience celebrating our anniversary. Walking in the door we were asked if we were celebrating anything special. When I said it was our anniversary, several of the staff wished us congratulations - and two complimentary glasses of champagne were brought to us once we were seated. Our server explained and showed all the cuts of meat and they were impressive. We had fried green tomatoes with a divine topping of shrimp and corn and then we split the twin pork chops and added a side of mashed potatoes. Both were delicious and oh-so filling. We were planning to get the whiskey bread pudding but couldn't eat another bite so we ordered that to go. Since it's usually served with ice cream we had just that before leaving and took the bread pudding home. The ice cream was fabulous on its own and the bread pudding is not to be missed. Our service was impeccable and attentive without being too much. All in all, the perfect place for a celebration. Don't pass up a chance to dine here. Thanks for the memories!
Thank you for making our night out so special!! Superb!
Exemplary!! ....in every category!!! Staff Abby was exceptional in every way!! Warm and friendly with an earnest desire to make our dinning experience the most enjoyable possible. She was very knowledgable about all the menu and bar selections and gave us great recommendations. At our request, she graciously gave us a tour of the restarant on a busy Saturday night and shared some of the Hall's endearing history. She is passionate about serving the customer and grateful to be part of a dedicated group of employees that share her passion and purpose .... which is to give each and every customer THE BEST DINNING EXPERIENCE!! Food/Wine The food was D3 (delectable, delicious & delightful) with a nice selection of by -the-glass wines. Chop salad is simply wonderful and the filet and tuna entrees were both exceptional and mouthwateringly good!! Ambience This fabulous restarant has a table/place for every diner's desire. From the high energy, see and be seen, bustling main bar area with live music ......to the perfectly appointed quiet dining rooms great for families and those who want a quieter or more relaxed dinning experience....Halls has it all and does it all SO WELL!! Thank you Abby and Hall's Team for a wonderful evening!!
Phenomenal! You must go, you will not be disappointed!
I had the greatest food and service experience here. First of all, as soon as the 3 of us stepped into the restaurant we were warmly greeted by Billy and welcomed by him. Billy found out it was mine and my sister's birthday and he brought us complimentary glasses of champagne. Kevin, our server, was outstanding!! He reviewed the menu with us, gave recommendations for dinner, and shared the various steaks that are offered at the restaurant. What made the steak extra great is that both of us like our steaks well done. The steak that we received was juicy, tender, flavorful, well done but not burnt or charred. It was perfect. To top everything off, Billy also gave us complimentary dessert for our birthdays. The dining experience from beginning end was spectacular.
The gospel brunch on Sunday was amazing.
Great food, drink, and atmosphere. My wife and I were seated at the bar because reservations were not available (3) weeks ahead of our trip. If you want a reservation, try (3) months ahead because it is that popular.
Great food and personal service that is hard to beat.
The portions were large and everything Was cooked to perfection.
Amazing anniversary
Absolutely amazing service. The bread pudding was TO DIE FOR. They made our anniversary so special. Gabrielle was our server & she made the night perfect for us!
Spot on
Just finished dinner with Gene. Perfect in every way. The best in Charleston. Food, service ambiance spot on. Can't wait to return.
Incredible as always! Service, food, drinks all 12 out of
Incredible as always! Service, food, drinks all 12 out of 10! Can't say enough good things about the food or the people. They treat everyone like family and it shows. The place is always packed but they always make room. Great atmosphere also!
Halls located on King St.
, South Carolina Charleston Delicious steaks the fishes. Amazing services. Impeccable restaurant is nice and clean. Great drinks.
Highly recommend Hall's Chophouse if you're in Charleston!!
Highly recommend Hall's Chophouse if you're in Charleston!! The stuffed mushroom caps were incredible. Had the king filet mignon with the loaded mash. Steak cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. Service was awesome! A great meal. Make sure you don't miss the opportunity to dine here!!
1st time in SC but not my last, visited for anniversary
1st time in SC but not my last, visited for anniversary weekend trip. Halls Chophouse didn't disappoint from the moment we arrived and were greeted and even met the owner. This spot is a must, the ambiance the food to the dark setting, jazz music, amazing food and drinks... Big Kudos to the establishment, you got the right ppl running the show.
Over Priced and NOT Romantic
We selected Halls for a romantic birthday dinner for two and by the nightโs end, were very disappointed. We were seated upstairs in the corner next to a table with kids who were dancing around their table. Who would ever bring small children here? With or without kids, the restaurant is very noisyโnot romantic as anticipated. We ordered a glass of Brut and the calamari for a starter which we found too heavily breaded and just warm. We ordered the grouper (very good) and lamb chops (very good), sides of fried okra and lobster Mac & cheese, and a $60 bottle of wine. The sides were cold and the entrees warm, but not quite what was expected for $335 (yes, $335). Save yourself from disappointment and try one of the many other restaurants in the area.
Awesome food, well prepared.
Service was excellent and very attentive to our needs. One of the Halls family greeted us when we entered and later checked on how we enjoyed our meal. Very family oriented.
Outstanding!! We have dined all over the world, so believe
Outstanding!! We have dined all over the world, so believe me when I tell you, Hall's is remarkable! From the moment we showed up (with no reservation) we were treated like visiting royalty. Everyone, from the owner on down the line, shook our hands, and made us feel at home and very welcome. They asked if we were there for a special occasion, and we said we were indeed celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. Instantly, two flutes of champagne appeared at our table! The food and drinks were all top notch, but I keep coming back to the service. Having been a server myself, I appreciate good service, but The staff at Halls was beyond. They worked as a well oiled team, led by our server, Katie. Katie was knowledgeable, personable, and attentive, without hovering , and never missed any detail. The food arrived, and was delivered by no less than five people all dishing portions on your plate simultaneously. It was heavenly! The wine list was formidable, but we were able to make a choice based on our own California taste. Don't miss the creamed corn or the bone in filet!! After a sumptuous feast, we were regretfully too full for dessert. As we prepared to leave, Katie arrived with a bag containing a special anniversary dessert. When we got back to our hotel room, we opened it to discover a huge wedge of their excellent chocolate cake. Amazing! Do yourself a favor, and make a reservation today... you will not regret it !
Love Halls Chophouse! Always great service, food, and
Love Halls Chophouse! Always great service, food, and drinks! Glad to have the opportunity to experience the original Halls Chophouse!
Kind of an obnoxious establishment.
First, don't touch me or my loved ones like you know me. You also don't know me, don't pretend like it's good to see me again. It's just fake. There are so many more local places with better food and vibes. Don't get caught up with the name.
Always a great time! As soon as we walked through the door
Always a great time! As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted and taken to our table. I started with the Hot Pepper Martini. The habanero infused vodka gave it a a good bite but the sugar rim helped to balance out the heat. It was a great start to a wonderful meal. I could have eaten the entire basket of bread and whipped butter. The bread was warm and the whooped butter melted perfectly! I had the Saturday Lunch special. I chose the simple green salad. The combination of the spiced pecans, goat cheese and sherry honey vinaigrette were delightful. For my main course I picked the 8oz filet which was cooked perfectly. It was served with creamed corn and sweet and sour collard greens. I really enjoyed the creamed corn , it was baked in a little dish with a crunchy top. Finished off the meal with the whiskey bread pudding topped with vanilla ice cream. What a great ending to a wonderful meal! We were celebrating my husband's birthday and one of the owners brought over 2 glasses of champagne! Such a nice touch!
Halls Chophouse Gospel Brunch is marvelous
Truly delicious food with great service in a festive atmosphere -- the Gospel music was a fun bonus. Started with popovers for the bread basket and they were a good omen! We shared the jumbo shrimp cocktail, and they were JUMBO and perfectly prepared. The she-crab soup was delicious. One of us got the lavender-scented french toast -- I've never had anything like THIS french toast before! Espresso mascarpone sauce with it was sublime. My prime rib eye eggs benedict with creamed spinach elevated the eggs benedict experience to a new height.
Treat yourself
Great place to treat yourself. Of course the steaks were great but the Whiskey bread pudding is enough for me to go back. Service was top notch. We arrived early and was accommodated by the manager.
The Best!
Halls was amazing! We couldn't of had better service. From the minute we walked in to the time we left everything was perfect. We can't wait to go back! We also received a thank you card from Halls. Such a classy touch!
Delicious in every way
The food was perfection! Josh, our server, was amazing. He was knowledgeable, funny, and helpful in every way. We will defintely return
Amazing service and food!
My mom and I had a wonderful dinner! Everyone was so friendly and attentive and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The food was incredible- highly recommend the chefโs special butter compote and the bread pudding!
Once again One of the BEST Steakhouses in America
I think the fact that Trip Advisor has Halls ranked where it is with a 5 star rating tells you all you need to know how Trip Advisor is truly incapable of presenting an unbiased opinion. I ordered the filet mignon and was cooked perfectly. The potato I ordered of course was shared with my wife who ordered the asparagus and was totally devoured. She also had the filet which was cooked perfectly. Look I don't know the owner, or anyone else there, but IMO this place is one of the best steakhouses in America and should be recognized as such. The service is unparalelled.
Outstanding
As always, from top to bottom, Halls did everything exceptionally well! from the moment we walked in, to the moment we walked out. The entire staff is very attentive. Our waiter, Rob, was outstanding. He was knowledgeable about the menu and cooking methods. He was very amenable and courteous. Top-notch waiter! We will ask for him next time we are there. The food was delivered hot and cooked as we ordered. Everything was just so amazing! Both of us cleaned our plates. We canโt sing Halls praises enough!! Bravo job
Amazing
Great food and service! You can not go wrong here. It's pricey but worth it. Do not have to dress fancy, which is nice.
Oh Halls, you do not disappoint.
, it's been a few years since I've been here (just not in the area) so I was excited when my travels brought me back to Charleston. I wasn't able to get a reservation and it was packed, but with a little bit of patience I was able to get seated at the bar. As usual I over ordered and will have lunch for tomorrow, but I had the French onion soup, NY strip and half sides of asparagus and mashed potatoes, loaded of course. The steak was cooked to perfection and the sides were awesome. The soup deserves its own paragraph but let's just say it was gooey cheesy goodness in a bowl. The staff bar none from greeting to service to leaving were awesome and despite the press of customers made me feel welcome. They did twist my arm and I took a piece of tiramisu cheesecake to go, it's calling me now but just, too, full. Looking forward to my next visit. Oh and yes I forgot to take photos.
Great food, great waiter, butโฆ..
Both the steaks and the vegetables were outstanding, and by todayโs standards reasonably priced for such quality. And my steak was cooked just as ordered - charred outside, very rare inside. The wine list however was extremely expensive and did not feature the California wines that we love. And our waiter was exemplary. But the noise level - even upstairs - was intolerable. This was caused partially by a full room and louder-than-necessary piped in music. Service was slow (not the waiterโs fault - I think it was the packed house) and by the time we were served the room was only 2/3 full - but we still had to shout to hear even our nearest table mates.
We went to Halls Chophouse for our anniversary dinner.
We arrived and were greeted by the owner who was super friendly. They knew who we were and wished us a happy anniversary. We sat down and received a complimentary glass of campaign. The waiter was very friendly and helped pick some amazing wines. I got the dry aged ribeye (the waiter recommended it) and it was the best-tasting steak I have eaten. The flavor was amazing and the meat was tender. The cream corn sides were delicious as well as the fully loaded potato. My wife got the prime rib and she loved it. Overall it was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fine dining steak house. I will definitely eat here again when I am back in Charleston.
Phenomenal food and a white glove service feel, I would go
Phenomenal food and a white glove service feel, I would go back next time. I am in Charleston.
Hall's Chophouse Summerville
We had been to the Hall's Chop House downtown and wanted to try the new one in Summerville. It did not disappoint. We had to call to let them know we would be late for our reservation due to the usual congestion that is common on Charleston's roadways. They were very accommodating and welcoming on our arrival. While there was live music, we were ushered to a quiet room off to the side. The service was well coordinated and all our food was creative and delicious. The servers were well informed and attentive. The one surprising downfall was that the parking was not easy despite the fact that this " new" Hall's is in a modern " strip mall". Maybe downtown Charleston is not so bad, afterall.
Extraordinary dining experience at Hallโs Chophouse!
Hallโs Chophouse exceeded our expectations and they were already high based upon all the reviews we had read before dining there. My husband and I were visiting Charleston as part of a 6 month cross country travel adventure. We chose Halls Chophouse as we wanted a fine dining experience in the beautiful city of Charleston. Our waiter, Mark, was extraordinary! His attention to detail, knowledge of great food, and ability to guide us through various menu options was amazing. He had such a great sense of humor and you can tell he is passionate about his craft and great food. Food came quickly and was presented beautifully. Fir appetizer I had the prosciutto and fontina stuffed mushrooms and my husband had the French onion soup. Both were delicious. We both had Markโs recommended Bison tenderloin filet with truffle butter over a bed of mushroom risotto. (It was to die for). For sides we had fried okra and a roasted corn with cream and cheese - the corn side was also amazing!!! We finished our meal with cappuccinos and Markโs recommended desserts of the whisky sauce and cherry bread pudding and my husband tried the toll house cookie in a cast iron skillet with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. Being from Nee England m, we pride ourselves on bread pudding. And my husband and have to say that hands down the bread pudding is absolutely the best weโve ever tasted! What an exceptional meal and dining experience. Cannot recommend this place more strongly! Pictures are proof. And in that bread pudding!! Special thanks to all the crew and Mark our waiter for making our visit so special!
Not an affordable wine list anymore
This was my go to place when i visited Charleston. I love it. The food was great the ambience and they have a beautiful music/ atmosphere .. but i googled the wine list and something has changed. I could not find a Cabernet Sauvignon under $95.. i am here for work, i am not celebrating my birthday or an anniversary. I would like a reasonable bottle of wine and sadly i was not going to visit based on the new price of the wine list. I even went to Merlot and other reds. I find Malbecs too earthy and that was a sort of reasonable price but the wine list has gone to I have no idea who affords that if not on a business account. I always appreciated the kindness of the bartenders and someone i think the manager or owner always circulated and shook your hand saying, hey, thank for coming but sadly, i canโt afford it anymore. This is the first time I have been in Charleston and not gone here for dinner. Can you please if you are in charge of the wine list, make some reasonable $40-$50 wines available for those of us not on an expense report ?
