Their menu consists of seasonal delights , featuring locally sourced ingredients prepared with creativity and skill. We really wanted to like this restaurant as we have been
We really wanted to like this restaurant as we have been looking forward to visiting for many years ( we live about 2 hours away). While many of the dishes were very good, the odors wafting from the fishy deep fryer in the kitchen was a total turn off. It was so noticeable that after our meal we left our clothes outside of our hotel room on the balcony to "air out". Perhaps, we are over sensitive to the deep fryer smell, but it was hard to enjoy our meal in that atmosphere. The service was fine. Considering there were many open tables, there didn't seem to be any reason to rush us as they knew we were celebrating a special occasion. The menu is rather small but there were almost as many specials as there were on the menu. The only waitress that evening spent almost 5 minutes sharing the specials. It was very difficult for us to remember what they were. She did really well describing them and she had to go to every table and do the same. Why not consider printing out a specials menu, one per table? Food 4 stars, Service 3 stars, Ambiance 0
First time visit to Cafe La Haye and it was a great
First time visit to Cafe La Haye and it was a great experience! Service was impeccable, friendly, prompt and great recommendations. Food was amazing and between 5 of us, we sampled many menu items, from the trout tartare, bibb lettuce salad, pork chops, fried chicken, pasta, and risotto with crispy calamari. Desserts were equally tasty, and overall it was a great evening
Wonderful place
Fantastic place ,great food will come again ! Great atmosphere ,lovely attentive staff and very reasonably priced ,thanks
A must stop every time we come to Sonoma.
The owner, Saul, treats you like family. Reservation's highly suggested!
We had such a good dinner! First off, just have to say
We had such a good dinner! First off, just have to say service was amazing. Esther was so delightful and checked in on us often. Love her! And she made sure my coffee cup was never empty. Which I needed after wine tasting. We started with the Beef Carpaccio which had fried oysters (my favorite part). I had one of the specials, the Tombo Tuna. The curry sauce was delicious! Tuna was seared on the outside and raw on the inside. I loved it! Hubs ordered the Pork Loin which wasn't as visually exciting but the flavors were definitely there. It had a sweeter sauce that went well and the gnocchi hidden beneath the chop was good. I can see how it's one of their popular dishes. And for desert my husband ordered the warm Almond cake with salted caramel ice cream, which satisfied his sweety tooth. Everything was delicious, service was great. The space is small and cozy. Definitely a great place to have dinner when you're in Sonoma.
Our dessert came out with a black hair on it.
..once we pointed it out and they took it away, their response was offering to bring us a new piece, which was pointless as we were grossed out and just wanted to leave the dining room. We refused any dessert and their response was they were sorry that happened and they were gracious to not make us pay for the cheesecake we never ate. I would expect more...my whole meal should have been comped or at least a discount from the meal. Human hair served on food delivered is not acceptable.
This restaurant is five star.
Small restaurant so you are very near other diners. Recommend reservations . The food is great, the service impeccable.

We had such a celebration! The celebrant got to order several new-to-her dishes which were excellent, and our server was very attentive.
Wonderful 2nd visit
One year later on our trip through Sonoma and we had to return to Cafe La Haye. Still as excellent as it was a year ago. Food, service, and wine were all top notch. We were lucky enough to have Ester as our server again. She has such enthusiasm about the menu. Her descriptions of the extensive specials were detailed and spot on. I have no idea how she remembers such fine details of an ever changing menu. A true professional! We started with the chop salad as a starter, which I could have every day and not get tired of. I returned to the pork chop for my main, which was a generous cut. My partner had the chicken special, which was beyond generous in size and very tasty. We cheated again this time and had dessert. That butterscotch pudding is utter perfection. We can't wait to return next year during our annual trip through Sonoma.

Consistently delicious and impeccable service.
We've been dining at Cafe La Haye for the past 2 or 3 years. We always look forward to our meals there and have always enjoyed the experience. The food is fresh, flavorful and always superb. We also enjoy bringing friends who haven't yet dined there. The service is always wonderful as well and if you're lucky enough to have Ester as your server it will be amazing!
Just off the square in downtown Sonoma, Café Le Haye has
Just off the square in downtown Sonoma, Café Le Haye has been a stalwart of the Wine Country dining scene since 1996. While small with only 34 seats, the dining room has large windows facing the street and mirrors on the walls that give the illusion of a larger space. Overlooking the kitchen, the small bar has four of the best seats in the house, allowing patrons to get a great view of the food preparation action. Topped with two delicious fried oysters, the beef carpaccio ($17) disappeared all too quickly. Juicy and moist, the pork loin chop ($34) was huge and grilled to perfection. There's generally a risotto dish that changes daily. Don't miss the decadent butterscotch pudding for desert. The wine list is small, but well curated with a good selection of by the glass offerings. Service is spot on: water glasses never go unfilled, used dishes are removed almost immediately and your selections appear exactly on time. Owner Saul Gropman is usually manning the front of the house. Café Le Haye is probably the finest non-prix fixe restaurant in Sonoma.
We have been to Cafe La Haye about 100 times, starting in
We have been to Cafe La Haye about 100 times, starting in 1999. We have never had a bad meal or bad experience. The food is wonderful ( always looks and tastes great). It has a wonderful wine list. The staff are always helpful, polite, and friendly. It is decorated very nice and the ambiance is great. The other customers are always having a good time, usually celebrating something. I've never seen noisy or out of control customers. We go to Cafe La Haye when we want to celebrate an occasion or just want a wonderful night out. Cafe La Haye is the best restaurant in Sonoma ( we've been to them all) and among the best in the county. You can not go wrong at Cafe La Haye. Enjoy
Delicious food, disappointing service. Why give a 7:30 reservation when the kitchen closes at 8:15?
On our recent trip to Sonoma we made sure to make reservations here. Our reservation was for 7:30. Arriving at 7:20 we were seated in short order. We ordered a delicious tomato salad and carpaccio with a fried oyster. The meat was fairly thick but delicious. Our server checked on us too frequently, finally telling us the kitchen closes at 8:15. We chose not to order a main meal. Asking us if we wanted desert I said no and was finishing my birthday champagne. Upon her return we asked for two cappuccinos. Five minutes later she returned to say the kitchen was closed and couldn’t get us our cappuccinos but would I like dessert??? The cappuccino was to be my dessert!! We felt rushed. The restaurant was still fairly full when we exited at 8:20. The kitchen was nearby with a lot of banging while we ate, with the kitchen staff continually looking at us. It felt that the server was under pressure to get us out asap as everyone wanted to go home. Not relaxing, why give someone a 7:30 reservation when the kitchen closes 45” later? We will not return.
Lovely environment, delicious food
We accompanied friends who live in Sonoma for dinner at this small, lovely restaurant. All four of us raved about our food choices. Two people had the eggplant appetizer, which they both adored. Two others had the vegetarian risotto, which included ribbons of fresh vegetables and just a hint of Parmesan cheese. My husband had the carpaccio as his main course, and he couldn’t stop talking about how delicious it was. I had that evening’s special salad, a tasty combination of arugula, cheese, nuts and figs. I can see why this restaurant is a favorite of our Sonoma friends.

It's rare these days when the owner of a restaurant greets you at the door and comes by your table to ask if everything was ok and thanks you when you leave. That's what you get at Cafe La Haye! Great food (loved the carpaccio with oyster on top!), ambiance, and service in Sonoma. I can see why locals love Cafe La Haye! We'll be back!

Thank you for letting us be your guests! It was brilliant!
Thank you for letting us be your guests. It was brilliant, carpacio as starter, tagiatelle and fish of the day, as main course! Dankeschön 😊
A wonderful restaurant
We loved Cafe La Haye. It is a wonderful restaurant with outstanding service. Our server was Esther who provided us with prompt friendly service. My wife enjoyed the roasted chicken. My son and I enjoyed the beet vegetarian rissoto. The rissoto was simply outstanding. We loved it here!!
Over the top good!
Incredible is the best description. The interior was welcoming, with beautiful paintings on the walls. We were met with happiness right when we walked in and it was such a great way to start. Our server was exceptional, she made eye contact with both of us while explaining the specials. We ordered the special beet salad and fish of the day. Both of these dishes were beyond expectation, fast and perfect portions. The only thing that was better than the entrees was the desert. The chocolate cake was sooo good. We made a point to return as soon as possible.
Great Dinner Place
Wonderful dinner! The staff and vibe of this restaurant provide a lot of energy - but the dining experience is relaxed and enjoyable! Our food was excellent too!
Elegant.
Intimate and the best pork chop of your life. A lovely owner. Great wine list and the best foodie place in Sonoma. MKe a reservation!!
Don’t think, just do, you will be happy you do
Oh MY! Four buddies in town for a long weekend to celebrate our collective 50th birthdays and someone recommended Cafe La Haye as a great place if wanting amazing food and a relaxed, but generally upscale vibe. Nailed it. Every one of us LOVED every appetizer and entree (and we all have varying tastes, etc.) and have all been to some nice restaurants yet easily claimed this to be one of the best we ever visited. SO happy we came here.
Valentine's Dinner
I made a mistake making online reservations for Valentine's Day but the owner went out of his way to seat us! He was extremely accommodating and very nice about it. It was a price fixed menu but plenty of choices. The meal and service were 5+ Stars!! Beautiful presentation and honestly on par with the very best restaurants that we've visited Anyplace. Make it a priority to eat there if you are visiting Sonoma...I can't wait to eat there again!!
Superb meal, one of the best I've had in awhile.
Small menu but everything looked wonderful, and my wife's and my selections were astounding. Broccolini appetizer, mushroom Sherry purée, chicken, trout - everything was cooked and flavored perfectly. Capped off by two delicious desserts - almond cake and chocolate torte. If you're in Sonoma, go here. You will not be disappointed you did.
Always a stop when we are in Sonoma
For many, Northern California is a a tale of two valleys. We have enjoyed many restaurants in both, but a 'never to be missed' is Cafe La Hay as they deliver on the service, quality and experience of fine dining along with the warmth and ease of an evening out with friends. Put these guys on your calendar, and you will understand why this ever changing menu is not to be missed when in town.
Hands down, the best meal we had in Sonoma
On our last night in Sonoma, we had dinner at Cafe La Haye. After 3 days, this was easily the best meal that we had while in town. Picky eaters beware, the menu is tight. In my opinion, fine dining restaurants know what they have perfected and therefor everything is usually excellent. Both of our wines were delicious. A Chardonnay for me from Three Sticks and a Stone Edge Farm Sauvignon Blanc for my better half. We shared the salad special, an arugula salad with herbed goat cheese, prosciutto, and cranberries. Really excellent. Main courses were the pork chop (excellent) and the risotto special with shrimp (very good). We are not usually ones to splurge on dessert but there were several interesting options, so we treated ourselves with the butterscotch pudding and the warm almond cake with salted caramel ice cream. Both were exemplary and well worth the extra calories. All of this was strung together by superb service from Ester, who was an absolute pleasure. If we’re back in Sonoma, Cafe La Haye is now a must for us!

We were seriously blown away.
Had the fish special with yuzu and we were mind blown. Shrimp risotto was good too! Try the almond cake and the yuzu cheesecake so good!!!!
One of the Best
My wife and I live in Napa. Cafe La Haye is one of our favorite restaurants for fine casual dining. They have a small menu with many daily specials which our well-trained waitress described. This is all very impressive but we would have preferred a printed list.

This place is AWESOME!!! It is very quaint and small with exceptional service! The man who greeted us was very kind and our server was very personable and knowledgeable. The food was DIVINE! We started with the broccoli soup and the little gem salad. Both were amazing! There is a biscuit in the soup which was a lovely surprise. We went on to share the porterhouse and the filet! Both were cooked perfectly. The real standout was the leek bread pudding that came with the porterhouse! That is BRAVOO!! Delicious wine, good food and good people! A must!
Excellent Meal
I can't recommend Cafe La Haye enough! It's in a great little spot in the Sonoma Plaza. You should definitely make reservations, as the restaurant is pretty small, but it's a wonderful experience overall. My mother ordered the seasonal risotto with rock shrimp--and I swear to you that it's one of the best things we've ever tasted. Don't skimp on meals here--you get exactly what you pay for--and it's worth it! We also ordered the burrata for an appetizer, and that was delicious. Finally, don't forget the almond cake for dessert.
Host service is the worst!
Horrible host! I called to update my table, the male host shared that he was too busy to answer calls to email the restaurant for request. I do not recommend the restaurant- the service is the worst not worth the time with so many other restaurants in Napa and Sonoma.
Excellent dinner - highly recommend!
My husband and I were biking through Sonoma and read great reviews about this restaurant. Well it did not disappoint. It was one of the best meals we had in Sonoma. The seared rosemary scallop appetizer was to die for. I very rarely order pork chop as a main course, but it sounded so good on the menu, I had to try it. It was incredible! My husband enjoyed the filet mignon. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time - not to be missed~
