Bowdies Chophouse Saugatuck Reviews
Bowdie's for dinner!
Lovely dinner! Great service! The restaurant is a bit expensive, but for a celebration dinner it is totally worth it! Shrimp cocktail, filets and mushrooms (which were SO good!!). It was a lovely evening.
Anniversary tour
Due to our fault we missed the time we reserved and they gave away our reservation. We arrived a half hour late but they worked something out and we were seated. Way above expected. We ordered salmon in a chop house. Excellent. Our was person Jackson was the best. We would highly recommend them for both service and food.
Great Service and Delicious Food
Pros: Our server Ann's personality and energy made the evening. She did an excellent job giving us a tour of the menu and offering worthwhile suggestions. The food was very good. My wife and I split a chopped salad, bone in filet and au gratin potatoes & brussel sprouts. The drinks (Cosmo & Negroni) were professionally made. Cons: The timing of the second round of drinks was not ideal. There appeared to be some operational issues given that it was the first day after Labor Day weekend. We sat upstairs and the lighting was stark and too bright - perhaps a dimmer switch or candlelight would help with the warmth. Finally, small thing, but our salad plate was warm which is an oversight.
Can't wait to go back
After many years of hearing how great Bowdies is, we had to try it for our wedding anniversary. The whole experience was terrific! Lianna, our server was fantastic, patient, informative, and attentive to detail. The portions are so large we split a couple of side dishes and our steak. Prior to dinner I had flowers delivered so they would be at the table when we arrived. The staff was very accommodating with our table and flowers were presented on the table perfectly. We cannot wait to go back.
Sid Our Server!
We truly enjoyed our evening. Syd was our server very knowledgeable on the food and the wines. We were inside which was a little bit on the noisy side, as the bar was right there. Our steak was done exactly the way we requested. Usually my partner doesn’t like brussels sprouts are mushrooms, this was an exception as he loved both. We enjoyed our wine and our evening at Bowdie’s
Simply amazing
The food was incredibly delicious and the ambiance was wonderful! Elijah was the best waiter we've ever had...and we go out to eat a lot. He knew exactly how to cater dishes to my allergies and made me feel very safe ordering. Thank you so much Elijah for making our dinner memorable! We will be back soon!
This Place and Owner is a Joke
Average at best. Way overpriced. Service was adequate. Actually had the owner give me some Road Rage a few days later. Making obscene gestures.
Very good steak house
Bowdies is a good steak house. The steaks are wet aged for 28 days. We had oysters on the half shell that were fresh and wonderful. Our filet was cooked perfectly. The button mushrooms on the side were delicious as well. Leigh was our server and she took excellent care of us. We shared a chocolate brownie a la mode for dessert that was a delicious end to our meal. I recommend Bowdies for a good steak house dinner.
$500 for a HORRIBLE dinner
Wildly expensive for the area with steaks ranging from $65 to $115 (no sides included), Bowdies promises to underwhelm you in every possible manner. Uncomfortable seating (think high tops with stools for a majority of the dining space), mediocre food at Michelin prices, and an overall bad experience await you. The food is over salted to compensate for the lack of actual flavor. The “crab cake” was a veritable PILE of canned crab mixed with mayo, they should call it a “crap cake” or more aptly, a plain old “pile of crap” would have been a significantly more accurate description and sadly, the flavor matched the appearance. The shrimp cocktail was swimming in a cocktail sauce that was insanely spicy due to the large amount of horseradish in the sauce which completely overpowered any flavor of the shrimp themselves. The grilled Caesar salad was a wilted mess and falling off the plate when served due to the leaves being larger than the size of the plate. The steaks were average at best, you will be disappointed and you’d better chug water when you arrive home, the amount of salt is staggering. The sides were edible and unmemorable, we ordered them all. Most notably, the Brussels sprouts were not trimmed and were bathed in an overly sweet balsamic vinegar, an outdated prep done poorly, they were not eaten. All in all, we spent $500 for 3 people. We’ll be skipping Bowdies for the remainder of the season and instead heading to Everyday People Cafe where the food is consistently good and we leave spending half the amount or less than a night at Bowdies. I was hoping this restaurant had improved since my last horrible experience, if anything, it’s gotten worse.
OMG what a glorious slab of beef!
I was actually surprised. The service was impeccable- attentive yet unobtrusive. The ribeye is among the best I’ve ever eaten. The au gratin potatoes were a triumph. And they have an excellent selection of wines by the glass. B This place deserves a place in the pantheon of the best steakhouses in America.
