Au Pied de Cochon Montréal Reviews
fantastic meal
our dinner menu was: blue cheese and apple salad, foie gras poutine, 2x foie gras conesquis, pigs foot plate and pintade plate . for dessert i had cafe cream caramel, and my brother had a chocolate molten dessert . all was excellent . the poutine was beyond amazing i asked for a spoon so i could eat all the silky , creamy gravy. this is by far the best meal i have had in years it is expensive but worth every penny . my 3d time here and was by far even better then in the past. excellent service not rushed . take your time it is very rich but delicious .count at least $100 per person if not more but this is truly a culinary experience . amazing . high lights for me poutine , the square melt in your mouth conesquis, and my dessert just fantastic , everything was top notch but those were my favorites of the evening.
Fantastic restaurant
Au Pied de Cochon is really good. The food and drinks are delicious. Really creative and innovative menu. Fantastic restaurant.
Very good
Tres bien! The food is really great for sharing. The dishes are delicious as are the cocktails. A favorite spot in Montreal for good eats.
Amazing menu
Amazing dinner! We ordered several plates to share, but the most memorable was the roasted pig foot. Definitely not something I’d ever had, but it was delicious and frankly a lot of fun. We did not get the duck in a can, but that also looked delicious as well. Our server was also fantastic. This was a very lovely night out while we were visiting Montreal!
Great Dinners at PDC
Great dinners this week at PDC. The Plogue a Champlain appetizer was amazing as usual, tried the onion soup which was very tasty had onions and other goodies in it, really delicious. The best was the pied du cochon served with maple. wow it was amazing and memorable. Service excellent and a friendly team. Amazing dinners and they make you feel very welcome here. Memorable, merci!
not very good
sadly, this place isn't very good. the duck in a can was so tough it was like eating a baseball. the fois gras poutine was bland. the wines were bad. the service wasn't great. really no point spending this kind of money here.
++++
Very good cuisine, discovery of delicious flavors, super friendly and very welcoming staff. We had a pleasant time. to recommend.
Honeymoon Dinner
My wife and I went here on the last day of our honeymoon and truly had a great experience, The food was delicious, the servers were extremely kind, and even gave us a glass of sparkling cider when they heard it was our honeymoon. It is definitely pretty hot when dining inside though, so when we return we may ask for outdoor seating depending on weather and season!
Romagna food
One of Montreal best, the service is excellent, the food is simply piggy good lol we hada wonderfull experience.
Do not recommend-terrible service!
Service was terrible. We arrived a few minutes early for our 9pm reservation and we’re not served until close to 11pm. They were busy which was fine, but drink orders weren’t even taken until an hour of sitting and we weren’t even offered bread. The pork chop was unimpressive - tough and fatty. The blue cheese salad was not good. The foie gras was good and everything else was good. The service was inattentive and overshadowed our enjoyment of the evening. I do not recommend going! So many other wonderful options in Montreal.
poor quality at a higher price
Overpriced. Feels like they over-used their name/fame and did cut corners to make more $. Average quality. I don't mind paying higher price for a quality meal, but I honestly had way better food for way cheaper. Even the quantity (wine served in a smaller-than-usual glass or food) is not there. Thank god I did not order a starter or a dessert... My disappointment would have been even greater. To top it all, the service is not aligned at all with the professionalism one should/could expect in a higher-end restaurant.
Date night
I have been talking about eating here forever! Finally, my wife took the initiative to make a reservation and it lived up to all the hype. The foie gras is amazing. We had the temaki, nigiri and of course the poutine foie gras, all incredible. Its has a relaxed atmosphere with outstanding service. It's a bit pricey but when the experience is this good, price is never an issue!!!
Fois Gras Heaven
Maple meets fois gras, what a great idea and so well done at PDC! Enjoyed the Plogue du Champlain appetizer which is a beautiful slice of fois gras with bacon served in a lake of maple., wow every bite was delicious. I dined here 3 times in a weekend and had that twice. Also must recommend the cassoulard, so rich and flavorful and no ya cant eat it all - but its amazing! A friend just enjoyed it there as well and he thought it was awesome and rich as well. Service is fast, it's a busy place but full of people who all enjoy the cuisine and Montreal food scene. Enjoy, cant wait to return
Liked it, but didn't love it
So many travelers who visit this restaurant, we were lured here by an Anthony Bourdain travelogue on Montreal. What was shown on TV as full of life, seemed honestly a bit tired and drab. Staff looked overwhelmed and scrambling, in spite of it not feeling real busy. The food was good, not great. We tried "duck in a can" and sampled some foie gras, for which they are known. The food was rich, but to my palette was nothing special. Restaurant furnishings were worn and felt clean-ish - as if it had peaked a decade ago and I was too late to experience it at its prime. I felt like I was paying a bit more for the "experience" of eating at this known restaurant, but that it was overhyped.
Food is outstanding
First of all, get your reservation for this place as soon as you can. We were recommended to this restaurant as we visited Montreal. We were not disappointed! We started with the Onion Soup. I have not had as a great soup as I did here. My husband had the pork chop as his main. The piece was so soft. It was like butter in your mouth. A definite treat. I had the Mac and Cheese. The Foie Gras was fantastic. My husband didn't know what it was and he is not an organ meat fan. He couldn't even realize what it was as it was so smooth. We were unable to do dessert as the meal was filling. We plan to go when we come back to Montreal!
I guess I'm missing the appeal
With all the hype, fame and great reviews we went with high expectations. Unfortunately we left completely underwhelmed. First of all, when people mention that it's noisy they mean it's REALLY LOUD. Many of the tables are flanking the kitchen in a narrow strip toward the back of the restaurant. You're seated too low to watch the kitchen work, but you definitely get all the noise. Plus, the narrow space is a major thoroughfare for the servers, so it's fairly chaotic. Service was, let's say, minimalist. I don't think we ever saw the person who took our order again. The foie gras first course was great. The mac and cheese was, well, mac and cheese. It was fine, perhaps even good, but pretty run-of-the-mill for a place that's supposedly so amazing. The duck-in-a-can, on the other hand, was really fairly awful (and that's coming from a true duck lover). First of all it was, at best, lukewarm. The duck was tough, the duck fat was cold, the foie gras was tragically lost in the mediocrity. Too bad, because as much as we were looking forward to this place it was by far the dining low-point of our eight nights in Montreal and Quebec City.
